I do have a bit of a bias with Gawn but think he's very hard to pass up on. The third man up being banned gives him potential to gain a few more HTA. He averaged about 75 for HTA last year so that could easily go up.
agree he is hard to pass up on, but he only goes big against the weaker rucks (ignore NM/Mel RD3 game)

if you want to look at it in deeper with all the other rucks, go for it, will make interesting reading.

FWIW, ive got Gawndilands

elaborate
Well Maric has lost easily 5kg, and at this stage has nankervis covered in virtually all rucks drills at training. While I think nankervis will eventually be a very good ruck just be cautious picking him this year

dont think any of us were seriously looking at picking him over Sandilands and Ryder, even Boyd.

good to hear Maric is doing something at the Tigers, after doing shit all in the past 2 seasons :p

I can barely afford Jacobs with my current (half-baked) set-up so paying more for these higher priced players isn't going to work, except maybe Martin.

Am thinking Jacobs will improve this year.
I can see Jacobs improving this year to. Apparently injured last pre season someuld have impacted his scores. Also no third man up is good for him.

Is there a ruckmen who won't benefit from third man up?
The lighter rucks? Blicavs doesn't count.

Will the bullocks benefit? The jumpers? Will it be nullified by coaches putting more into negating a dominant ruck.

I hate SC2017 already!:mad::mad:

probably the bigger, less mobile rucks who are average height

Jacobs, Mumford, Nicholls, Witts, Smith are a few which come to mind.
The Dogs rucks are a no go zone now, as they relied on the 3rd man up to get clearances

Martin Sandilands Cameron. (Strandica maybe at F8 depending on preseason)
For this to work you need Cameron to score more than your F8.

I'm not sure that's likely nor how much coverage he is really likely to give.

Geez im really considering taking a cheaper option other then gawn... theres just so many question marks over other players
- Grundy: young, can he continue last half of the years form. Looks in great knick. Is the only one really tempting me.
- Jacobs: Is he past it in the supercoach world?
- martin: will he play with/be overtaken by Smith, due to age and where the lions are at
- goldy: scandals/Majak Daw playing with him.
- Mumford: just never know with him. Great player, but never been a SC fan
- Tippett: interesting, but meh. Not for me
- Hickey: Can he break out?
- Ryder: after a year out, can he find his best form? Will port try Lobbe in the same team?
- Sandi: Age and injuries.

Gawn is simply the most convincing ruckmen, quite clearly. Seems to be over the knee injuries, no competition, no one stealing points, proven elite ruckman and SC gun. Just a pity he is so expensive.

Are we assuming it's Sandi Strnadica top 2 for Freo? So might as well get them both?

I just really want Boyd in there, honestly. He's cheap and will probably average 80.

Only reason people are getting Strnadica is he is a good captains Loophole, also has FWD/RCK DPP, allowing people to cover for Sandi through Ryder in their forwards.

Also, an 80 average is quite bad. Especially in the ruck. You'd be wanting a bit more then that if you pick him. Coming up against ruck combos that will be at 105/110 Average each with Boyd getting a 50-60 (likely when averaging 80) will put a massive dent in your chances of a win. If you want an 80 average, i'd go Witts, cheaper and 80 average is very achieveable imo.

Oh, the head to head is per position? Aw jeez, that changes everything about my team. (Never played before)

If the aim of intially picking Boyd as a f4, ruck backup that would eventually become f7, fwd/ruck bench player be more enticing. 80 ave would be fine for that role. If is means having that extra cash to upgrade another mid pricer to premo it makes sense.

Head to head is not position, it is the you vs the team you are playing that week.

If your two rucks average a combined 180 and your opponent averages 210, it just means you need to make up those 30 points somewhere else.

For what it is worth, any player in your best 22 with an 80 average is not somebody you want long term, but could be a good cash cow if cheap enough to begin with.

Feel free to post your current team in the relevant thread and I am sure you will get some helpful feedback.

Have gone really cold on Gawn due to his price and the fact that the top ruck hasnt been able to back up the following year and stay top.
Went into last year with set and forget and ended up making 3 trades on that line.
Thinking if I go in thinking I will need to trade at least twice, I am still ahead of last year.
Really considering Hickey and Sandi and pumping that extra cash in the mids.

Talk me out of starting with that potato Ryder, has burnt me in the past.. not keen nor Maxxy at his price. I want mummy but he does stupid things far too often and I can't afford to trade his ass when he wipes somebody out (and we all know he will at some stage)
first of all, no.
Ryder is god, has a great beard
Gawn has a nice beard

Mumford doesnt have a beard, therefore is shit

Truuuuue.. honestly what are you expecting from Ryder this season ??
i think he will start a bit rusty, just as he gets used to the pace of the game again. Then he should go 100+ from there on in IMO. Thats if Lube doesnt play.
If Lube plays, then 80-85. But honestly, which coaching group is stupid enough to play Lobbe and Ryder in the same team.....

the first 4 games he has will be against Tippett, Sandi, Jacobs, Mumford. Not the easiest but not the hardest. Sandi will be the hardest game there IMO.
