if Ruffy went down injured early I'd consider a straight swap to Nanky

Roughy's not a big injury risk. I mean the cancer could come back (god help us) but in terms of traditional soft tissue injuries, breaks etc he's pretty robust - just the achilles injury 5 years ago.

The key concerns around him should be if he can get back to premo scoring.

Never said he was

Currently have big Max and Nankervis as my starters, with Ryder on the forward line.
Something keeps telling me Nankervis will be the big mover this season and good value

Big Sandy on show this Saturday ?
two things can happen:

1. he gets injured on the weekend, nobody picks him
2. he dominates on the weekend, everybody starts with him, then he gets injured in round 1 or 2

Im going with Gawn, Naismith and English as my back up
Just new around these parts so maybe take my advise with a grain of salt but I do think this combination to be very risky in a line where things can unravel very easily.
At 360k what were you hoping for from Naismith? Stepping stone type? Breakout keeper?
English as cover (talented kid) but first year out of underage footy ain't going to play a real lot of time in the ruck/if at all this year, and if this is the case I'd be looking at finding a bench option that comes with DPP for some flexibility later in the season.

English looked very good last night. Will be an absolute gun ruckman in a couple of years. Has the composure and ball handling skills of a midfielder. Be interesting to see if he gets many games this year.
Might get some game time early with Roughead and Campbell both sidelined at the moment. Looked very good at ground but struggled in the air against Martin and he's not the best of tap ruckman himself. No doubt will be very good in a few years but very raw at the moment.

Cant see him getting many games this year....he needs time to add muscle on his frame. Otherwise really mobile and skillful for a tall guy. Will be a gun in a few years.

Im banking on Naismith playing 22 games this year.
Who else do the swans have? Tippet? At a minimum he should play 18 games.
Taking English is risky but vs reward its worth it IMO. He salary suits my cap

There is a third option, but I'm perfectly happy for everyone to go ahead and pick one of those two tbh.

So I guess your saying that you think Naismith will in effect be a top 3 scoring ruck this year. Yeah fair enough, I may not agree but each to there own.
Good luck with your choice. One thing for certain is if you were proven to be right you'd certainly get a big early jump on the masses

I dont think he will be a top 3 scorer?
How did you come to that conclusion?
I think he will do a solid job and average over 70 while allowing me to afford Gawn and spend my money on higher earning mids.

this intrigues me so I was looking into it. The vibe I got from the North board was Preuss over Daw based on their first two jlt matches.
There's a bit of pre-season exuberance in that. I think too many even on the North board still view Majak as the second ruck where in reality he makes it or not as a KPF. Preuss going past him is IMO for the "who is the #1 ruck if Goldy has to miss" rather than "who is the next best Forward/Ruck option". Remember Maj was just getting back from a meniscus repair and should find more touch over the next 2 weeks and JLT3.

Preuss isn't going to burn guys off down the wing like Daw did to Gibson on Sunday. Majak can play forward, ruck and has even played as a mid in the VFL.
The club's just given Maj a contract extension. The experiment isn't over; they want to give him a run of games to see what he really is.
Brown and Wood are both likely to miss Rd1, leaving Waite, Daw and ???. The candidates for ??? are McKay, Preuss, swing Durdin forward, or Larkey (or maybe Zurhaar as a 3rd tall type). But whoever it is is back out when Brown and Wood come back.
Historically the team's clearance win% with Daw chopping out is very good. Preuss's HTA's have also been very good.

How much over 70 do you think and are you wanting him to make money? He will need to average 76 before putting on any coin whatsoever.

Currently have the same setup. If Nankervis gets the number one ruck I don't think I'll be Changing. Have thought about Sandi but a 34yo with calf issues doesn't fill me with confidence.

I got the impression from your your first comment when you spoke of Naismith playing 22 games that you must be viewing him as a keeper type pick rather than a stepping stone. Now if I was intending to keep a ruckman for the journey he'd have to be a top 3 type option,

I'm not really very familiar with the ruck situation at Sydney but from what I understand Tippett is now the #1 ruckmen (did a previous ruck get injured?) and Nankervis and Naismith were Sydney's 2 up & coming rucks last year and Naismith was the one that looked the better of the 2 and Nankervis was traded to Richmond. Now people here are talking about this Darcy Cameron coming up and getting games. So what is the ruck situation at Sydney? Are they happy with Tippett as the #1 ruck now or would they like him back in the fwd line and to have Naismith and/or Cameron in the ruck?

Also, since someone briefly mentioned it in response to my previous question, what is the ruck situation at Gold Coast? Why did they want Witts when they already have 2 ruckmen?

If all you're after is 70s

Just grab Witts
