RLWC '22 2017 Rugby League World Cup Discussion

Have been waiting patiently for a close game and when it came it was close but a poor standrad. 37 errors, most of them unforced, spoiled what should have been a ripper contest. Good luck to PNG though and commiserations to the Irish as they put up a good fight.

The conditions may have had an effect of the game but gee the PNG side burned some chances.

I'm just watching it now. Compelling viewing, despite the errors.

Tonga looked very good, as did the Kiwis, against not very strong opposition. Ther good thing is, the days when people used to jibe that there were only three decent sides in the RLWC seem to have gone.

I thought so too. Very physical and the atmosphere was electric. Says a lot for small packed out grounds full of passion.

Ireland have been a surprise. Wales are shocking and the Scots have gone backwards. I hear they had some players sent home too. I did hear the commentators say PNG v England is on the cards for the 1/4s. Imagine that in a packed out ground in PNG.

That's a pity.

Not for England! :p

With the climate over there. Still, Ireland did very well where I was expecting them to get a hammering. England should still beat them, though, although it looks like McGillvary might get a ban after all. Which is not good when you only have two specialist wingers in your squad.

Scotland, of course, don't have their tartan Aussies like Coote, Aitken, etc like they did last time, which weakened them considerably. And losing their best player with that shambles has really put them on the back foot now; a shame.

Live on 7, 7mate and the app. Ratings have been pretty good. The NZ v Tonga game should be the game of the round this weekend.
Thanks mate. I seriously need to get a life. It's two weeks into the damn thing and haven't even heard about it!!

Reality TV turned me off general tv so when the Aussie Rules finishes, I don't watch TV for six months. One major reason I didn't realise the World Cup was on.

Great to see some games in Port Moresby among other places. Papua New Guineans love their league so well done to rugby league.

I don't watch a lot of normal tv so I don't know what sort of promotion 7 is doing, but I continue to be impressed by the coverage during the build up and the match commentary which has been excellent.

They really deserve a home 1/4 after leading the way in crowds. Hopefully they don't get too effected by coming to Melbourne.

Quarter final draw announced, well some teams.

Australia to play in Darwin on Friday 17 Nov.

New Zealand to play in Wellington the following day and Tonga in Christchurch.

Best game of RL I've watched all year. Great crowd and great atmosphere.

Can't believe we lost that after playing so well in the 1st half by taking the early pounding which was inevitable, then going around them on the outside as they half progressed. I'm pointing my finger directly at Kidwell.

That said, I thought the shocking penalty against Solomona in the PTB after every single PTB in the NRL, SL and International RL in general this year is an absolute disgrace, got the Tongans on a roll which the Kiwis simply couldn't stop.

That said again, great for the game and this comp. Go Lebanon!!

What does that mean for the crossover? Assuming it was set up for Aus to play NZ in the final based on the assumption both teams win all the way through.

They will most likely play in a Brisbane semi.
