Sounds like you guys all still have SPS as a lock for your Rd 1 side. Whats the status of his injury and expected plan in JLT. He on track to play or are you thinking he comes straight into Rd1 whether he does or not? With mid rookies being thin at the moment the premium for him may be worth it as he looks 1 of the few options with good JS (and I think scoring potential but correct me if I'm wrong). Will be interesting call at that price though if it is sight unseen.

Sheehan is another who features in a lot but not all Rd 1 predicted teams. Was there reason given for non selection this week? If selected rd 1 would you consider him a good option down back. There seems like there will be a decent number of def rookies and I'm rolling with 3 onfield so need good balance of scoring potential and JS.

Finally, SPS, Pickett, Fisher, etc, how many of these kids can you fit into your team at once? Could all 3 of those (or others such as Lebois) realistically get a game in your fwd/mid mix or are they fighting each other?

was wondering which if any of your kids you expect to play early in the year?

Very hard to say at this stage - your guess is as good as ours. Keep an eye out for our 3rd JLT match which we're likely to treat as a full dress rehearsal for R1 against Richmond.

I expect all of SPS, Fisher and Pickett to be there or there abouts, with Polson and LeBois outside chances. We'd love to see McKay playing early but I reckon he'll start the year at VFL level.

His injury is not as bad as first thought. If he doesn't feature in our final JLT match they'll try get him up for a Northern Blues practice match before the start of the season.

My guess is he plays R1 but he's not certain to be there.

No reason given for his non-selection yesterday, hopefully we see him feature next weekend against St Kilda. Lovely skills but his body has constantly let him down.

If named he's a good option - I've got him on my bench at the moment - but wait and see whether he features during the preseason.

No reason why they can't all feature together at senior level. Every chance the first 3 debut in R1.

Cheers for putting in the time to give a good reply. Much appreciated. Mid rookies are going to be really interesting this year. Last year was similar from memory where there was a lack of options with good JS to start the year unless you paid top dollar. Can see many people having a player like gresham who I had lats year who although was an ok pick eventually played a couple early then went unsighted for ages which isn't what you want from your starting rooks but is always the risk!

He's a good, solid player. He should play all games that he's fit for, unless somebody unexpectedly leaps ahead of him. Not going to get you big scores and not going to earn any money. Should be consistently in the 70-90 range, with maybe a few 100's thrown in.

Hey guys,

So the talk is Murphy will play an inside midfield role and rest in a forward pocket instead of the outside midfield role resting on the bench last year. Is this true? Don't exactly like the talk of Murphy playing forward, especially for not more than 20% of his gametime.

Regardless, do you see him receiving much less attention and averaging 105?
Think his sc days are over

Hey guys. Didn't watch the JLT match against Freo but saw that Pickett seems to have played well. What are his chances of playing R1 and if yes, would he have decent job security? Thanks, appreciate any help. Good luck R1, hopefully it's a ripper game.

He's looked very impressive through the preseason and will definitly be there in R1.

We have a few small forwards on the list now but he should feature plenty at senior level this year regardless.

Thanks very much for your reply. I really liked him pre-draft when GWS picked him up.

Hadn't thought much of him until game against freo, wow I was wrong. Has it in spades.

Will play majority of year & will only build. Slow burn though imo 12 possies 1.5 goals

Looks likely to play from rd1 but will be underdone with the back injury.

He was underdone last year carrying a knee injury which he eventually got on top of and came home strong. I'll be looking at him after the byes personally.

Cripps looked amazing the other night. Would his game against Freo change your opinion on starting him round 1?

Best 22:

Byrne, Rowe, Plowman
Docherty, Marchbank, Simpson
Petrevski-Seton, Cripps, Thomas
Wright, Weitering, CCurnow
Pickett, Casboult, Silvagni
Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy
ECurnow, Palmer, Cuningham, Kerridge

Backs

Marchbank -
Very good JS and has the game to score well. Intercept marking, attacking defender with good disposal skills but very limited scoring history to go on, expensive for a rookie and could at time play a more defensive game.

Sheehan - Was my pick to take Byrne's back pocket but no preseason games has put that on hold. Mature aged and will score okay when played.

Docherty - Very good footballer and will score very well again, feel he is fully priced and maybe overpriced. Have noticed there where less switch (through the back line) in play over the preseason which will take points off both Docherty and Simpson, but that could well change in the season proper. Will still be one of the top few defenders.

Simpson - Very similar to Docherty, fully priced and maybe overpriced. Getting a little old but wont effect this bloke very fit and a great history of games played. A good bet if you are starting with an injury prone team. Will still be one of the top few defenders and probably a POD.

Midfield

Petrevski-Seton
- Very good chance to start round 1 and get a fair run of games early. Scoring could be a problem at his price, not a ball magnet but uses to ball very well and has very good tackle numbers as a kid.

Murphy - Priced at 79 so has huge upside and has scored 4 seasons over 110 with a top scoring year of 118, those days are gone with Cripps taking most of the contested ball and clearances as he is pushed out onto the wing and half forward more and more. His preseason numbers have been poor but still think he will score well this year, but probably not enough to become a keeper.

Cripps - Will one day sit top of the Midfield and will increase his numbers again this year. Has had an interrupted preseason this year and may start slowly. Averaged 125 in his last 8 games and still only 21.

Forward

Pickett - Former pick 4 that was drafted as a highly skilled midfielder. Has had some serious injury problems limiting his running and fitness so will start as a dangerous forward pocket. DPP with good JS and if he can keep up the tackle numbers will score on par with most rookies

With Docherty to come back in, will this impact on Marchbank's scoring?
also looking for info on MArchbank.

His JS would allow me to go 3 on field rookies in def (without him there isn't enough JS IMO) which helps my overall structure. Otherwise I'm going 4 guns with Docherty being 1 and I'm not that thrilled with him as a pick as like mentioned above, reckon he is top price at best. Would rather the extra promo elsewhere. On the flip side, if a cheaper rookie elsewhere can outscore/match Marcbank then that more than balances that out

My worry is at his price if he averages 55-60 its not a great pick. If he goes 65+ then I could live with that but I feel that may be the absolute best to hope for

What are peoples thoughts on his likely role and therefore scoring potential? Weitering pushing fwd make him more lock down. As asked above Doc/Simmo increasing role in real stuff reduce his easy ball?

Thoughts appreciated.

Hey guys,

Was just wondering how Weitering has been this pre-season? Is he looking like he's ready to improve on his average of 67 last year? (In SC)

Cheers
Hard to say. Looks like he will be switching between forward and defence. Not sure how that will affect his scores. Probably better options. Marchbank will be cheaper and could average a similar score, meaning he will make money at least.

Teamsheets are out. SPS named on the bench, so injury is cleared up. What's his JS and expected output. Who are the players who are trying to take his spot and is there much chance of them succeeding?

Also, I know teamsheets don't mean much these days, but Doch named on the wing. Should we read much into that?

SPS is too talented and diligent not to be a regular IMO.

He's a hybrid inside/outside midfielder with sublime kicking skills and awesome evasion.

Expected output: 15 possessions per game (conservative estimate), high efficiency, probably 10 kicks, 5 handballs. Not a huge contributor on the scoreboard but will kick some goals.
