Mission....are you happy with Rockcliffe and would he have been your preference before Motlop...How does Rockcliffe impact on players/positions from this year. Finally if we get Motlop how as a pair does that impact. These 2 surely improve our list based on class alone.
Interesting that Richmond win the flag with 1 Ruckman and 1 key forward.

I made the mistake of trying to reason with the West Coast board re the Ebert trade a little while ago. All these years later they have this bizarre axe to grind over what was in essence a fair trade.

Port coming off a 3 win season. Have picks 6, 28 and 33 in a heavily compromised draft. Obviously not trading pick 6 (Wingard) for a player of Ebert's caliber. No players of any value to offer up. Offer of pick 28 (our priority pick for being so shit no less) eventually accepted.

In reality, with our on and off field position and the compromised draft already screwing us over, we owed the rest of the competition absolutely nothing at that point on time. We could have pulled the middle finger up at West Coast and sent Ebert to the pre season draft. But no, we did a fair yea trade in good faith.

The Crows of WA.
Yea I tried talking to them as well and it's true they think we bent them over with the Ebert . I said surely it was an agreement reached but apparently Peter Rhode bullied them .
I made the mistake of asking if they thought Ahchee and Lycett was a good swap. Wasn't too popular for that suggestion I can tell you .

So we're looking at a possible trade period of:

OUT: Lobbe, Trengove, Young, AhChee, Impey, .
IN: Rocky, Motlop, 2nd Rnd (Young), 2nd Rnd (Impey), 3rd round (AhChee), Houston upgrade.

PLUS certain Delistings of:
Krak, Toumpas, Monfries, Eddy(R), Hewett(R)

Uncertain delistings:
White, Snelling, Palmer

So even at a bare minimum we're likely to end trade period with 33 senior listed players. That leave 8 empty draft spots (5 min/7 max national draft and 1 min/3 max rookie draft) in a year that we have no real quality draft picks.

So if our trades go really well as per above (2nd for Young GC and Impey Haw and 3rd for Ahchee WC), best we can hope for is something like picks; 24, 29, 32, 47, 48, 66, 84.

That's a MASSIVE blow to our depth. That's also possibly a massive amount of list clogging mediocrity entering the club in one draft, given it is a shallow draft.

If we end in a position like that we're 100% going to need to be heavily involved in trade period in trading up the draft order, or in gathering mature rookies from the state leagues.

Like CD said today..we intend to come out of this trade draft period stronger not weaker and will make decisions accordingly.

I don't think we'll cut Toumpas or Eddy in these circumstances. Might as well keep them and see if they can work on their deficiencies

Are there other teams?

I'm more than happy to give Krak, Eddy and Toumpas one more year if the draft is shallow rather than take on poor draftees who we have to give 2 year contracts.

Another question is given the shallow nature of this years draft would Port be prepared to collect future draft picks where offered and take a hit in 2018. I feel this is unlikely as after 3 seasons where we teased and didn't deliver Port fans will not be ready to accept a slide into mediocrity. Even if it could mean a jump, even a flag in the Richmond mould the next year.

Scenario 1: We don't match the offer and lose Trengove for nothing because we're bringing in Rockliff

Scenario 2: We match the offer and force a trade like what the Crows did for Dangerfield - we secure a 2nd or 3rd round pick

I know which one I would prefer.
Trengove will likely sign any matched offer which defeats the whole purpose of him moving it on.

A third scenario that would be the most likely.

Tim O'Brien isn't really cemented into the Hawthorn first 22. He would be an ideal alternative tall forward to work with Dixon and Marshall.
How do people rate obrien? I've seen very little. Getting another tall in would be a positive , but these 2nd tall types that never look like breaking out almost always go nowhere as players.

In any case it sounds like port will not let impey walk for unders. I've pointed out to people that despite being this boards whipping boy at times he is obviously highly rated within the club.

If he requests hawthorn their pick 32 is the least we could get imo but I would not like that outcome in this draft. I would be asking for hawks 2018 2nd and wouldnt budge for less.

With potentially a few guys leaving, would we have in place on trades to the clubs needing their academy points for the draft picks we accumulate?

Upgrading our incoming draft selections or trading them to next year ??
It's a weak year for academy selections which makes it incredibly unlikely
