I was trying to think of a comparable trade that has gone down recently. Maybe Dion Prestia to Richmond last year? That was Prestia + Pick 24 for Pick 6 and a 2017 second rounder (Pick 35). I know you guys will say Wines is worth more than Prestia but I'm just trying to gauge where things would stand on the open market.

**** me

Wines is elite , young , contracted.

Prestia was ok decent midfielder

Nothing alike. Gtfo.

No chance wines goes to Gold Coast. He will have his pick of Vic teams offering huge bounties for him he doesn't have to go there.

He also looks extremely unlikely to leave port. Looks as settled as anyone.

If in theory Gold Coast did convince him , it would require a god father deal closer to what judd got from west coast (pick 3+Recent gun pick 4+20)

Okay, mate. I understand you don't want to contemplate what might happen if he were to request a trade. We'll just leave it here and hopefully someone else comes along that's willing to converse with me on this.
Why not talk about what pick Tredrea will be in this years draft if he comes out of retirement? Or any other irrelevant scenario that will never happen

Not really. He has a limited window to maximise his income. If he gets an offer too good to refuse he takes it.

If he wants to come here to play finals we've made 4 final series in 10 years with a GF, Prelim, Semi and EF. It's not like we are a GF powerhouse filling him with conviction we will have success.
But we do have othe cultural assets that will help with his lifestyle.

Hypothetically, if Gold Coast were to convince Wines, Young and Ah Chee to join them this off season, what would we expect in return? Pick 2 this year and their second rounder next year?
You're talking about a Pick 7 who is 22 years old, starting 22 and an integral part of our list with 100 games experience, playing one of the hardest positions on the ground. Plus he's contracted and has absolutely no links to Gold Coast.

You're basically saying 4 years of development are worth a 5 spot pick upgrade. They had their opportunity to draft him and chose Jack Martin instead.

As for Prestia, he's two years older and a far worse player. And he was out of contract and wanted to go home.

There is literally nothing Gold Coast could offer that would interest us. Not even Lynch. We're at the precipice of challenging for the flag, and these clowns want one of our best players?

They can **** off.

Rucci pushing hard again in his updated article that Adelaide have offered in excess of $600,000 p.a. to Motlop, who will return from Darwin to meet with them tomorrow. Claims that Port and Geelong won't get into a bidding war and that Adelaide's offer may be "unbeatable".

Kane and Rucci doing their best to get this out in the public, presumably to build up Adelaide's chances of getting him so that they look even more inept if/when he chooses Port.

FWIW, I'd be surprised if we have offered less than $500k or are not prepared to do so. Our chances of getting Motlop out of Geelong in the first place would have required such an offer, unless he was really unhappy there, which doesn't seem to be the case.

The discussions with Brisbane that have been taking place over Lobbe's salary (and maybe Rockliff) hopefully have given us a bit more to offer Motlop and Watts to entice them.

O'Brien signed a 2 year extension 2 months ago. If we did bring him in I'd delist Eddy.

Edit: Assuming we also trade out Lobbe and bring in a ruck or forward as well.

Let's do a like for like comparison:

Ollie Wines
  • 2013 pick 7
  • 22 years old
  • Best 22 player
  • Plays as an inside midfielder
  • Played 107 AFL games
  • Contracted
Dion Prestia
  • 2010 pick 9
  • 23 years old (when traded)
  • Best 22 player (when traded)
  • Played as an inside midfielder (when traded)
  • Played 95 AFL games (when traded)
  • Uncontracted
Pretty similar with the exception of the contractual situation. Player worth based on ability is subjective and the role each individual plays varies based on the players around them and team structure so all you can really do to show concrete evidence in terms of ability is point to statistics. I can't be bothered actually going through it but I think both averaged a little over 25 disposals a game in 2016 (Prestia) and 2017 (Wines). I'm sure Ollie was better in most areas but I don't think the gap is as large as you're making it out to be.

‘Best 22 player’ lol. Nice broad label. Dustin Martin and Sam Gray are both ‘best 22 players’ but I somehow doubt they’d have similar worth on the trade table.
