You are a bit too supportive of giving Impey away. What's the real story?
No story.

I don't mind Impey as a player, he's got great potential. But he had a disappointing year and we're well stocked with creative half forwards, potentially adding another with Motlop in the next fortnight.

He's also got some well documented personal issues. He has a father/son like relationship with Jacko, who is now moving to Melbourne. I assume he himself has family somewhere in Victoria. Potentially, moving to a Melbourne club might be best for him on and off the field. And that's exactly what he's requested.

By the looks of it the Port fans are divided on Impey.
His ceiling is borderline elite , super quick so can run and carry , just that he'd run into trouble or a rushed kick that went nowhere quite often .
Can mark quite well , strong , fearless but doesn't quite do enough.
Had a hard year personally where Jackson Trengove took him under his wing and seemed to drop off when Jacko got dropped which led to himself being dropped , got brought back for the elimination final but played like his heart wasn't in it . Reckon he would've got a bit of a rocket at his exit meeting and he's got the shits especially with Jacko leaving
Definitely best 22 normally

I've been very disappointed with Impey amassing 75 games but I still think he has something. I just believe that he needed to be challenged by having to find good form in the sanfl to earn a spot back in the 22. Too early to ditch him unless it is to get walk up best 22 players that are bound for premiership glory, as we did with Eagleton and netted Bishop and Montgomery.

That's why we won't block it, but we don't have to pander to his request for Hawthorn. If the Bulldogs are keen enough, we can see what they are prepared to offer too. Make them all sweat, the way Impey did to us every time he went on one of those zigzagging runs.

I'm not convinced. He was pick 21 in his draft - 4 years ago. There's no way he's held that value based on performance. Pick 32 is about right.
In last year's draft it would have been about right.

In next year's draft, it's about right.

In this year's? Not a chance.

The one failing people seem to have when discussing draft picks is that their value increases or diminishes according to the draft strength.

We don't rate this draft. Not many clubs do. We don't need to trade Impey, so unless Hawthorn comes to the party with something enticing that will help us strengthen our list, they can wait until next year.

He will be coming for pick 32 and that's that, it'll get done early and we will all move on. He is an average player who should go for an average pick, that's the reality.
Yes sir Mr Kennett.

Contracted, with a ton of port depth leaving the club this year. Don’t be surprised if port play hardball. If we don’t get a good deal he will be at port next year

Why are hawthorn bothering to recruit an average player?

That is not that. He'll go for what we deem as acceptable, or either of the following occur:

1. We see what other Victorian clubs are prepared to offer.
2. He sees out his contract here.

We need dedicated footballers, not one's that are not sure if they want to be here or can't go on playing without their mate. If Impey want's out let him go, as long as we are compensated.
To me it looks like a sign that he's simply not quite mature or confident enough to get by without the level of support that Trengove's family provide. If that's the case, then it would be just asking for trouble for us to try and force him to stay. He's unlikely to play his best footy and may be more of a chance of getting into strife if he really doesn't want to be here.
