I don't think the AFL would give him a managers license again.

but he obviously knows the system really well and as a 'consultant' it might not be such a bad idea.

On Nixon; he attended day one of the trade period unannounced catching everyone off guard including reporters covering the day.

Why did he attend? To offer advice / consultant services in case clubs or player managers required assistance in navigating the trade period.

No joke.
And left early.

Is Schache back at brissy next year? that's what the media are reporting, but I think couple of clubs very keen and won't show their hand til next week when things get desperate.

I would have taken Whitecross a few years ago when it was first rumoured but not now, Hartung, no thanks I'd rather go with the likes of Allison, Cameron, Cutler, Taylor, Cox as the outside runner type.

Do not want Hartung (spud)m bot Whitecross (had the chance to come over last few years but declined). Really Hodge should be the only 1 coming in at pick 80 odd.

Back our recruiting staff in on this one...Fagan said we needed to add depth to the midfield...both are hard running, tough at it midfielders and can chase down and tackle.. Presently our midfield has just lost Rockcliff and atm we haven't offered C Beams a contract...If Adelaide hold firm and the Cameron trade doesn't go through what's plan 2?

Whitecross good player but is in a similar ilk to hodge being halfback leaders so not sure if we really need him on top of hodge.
Hartung an ordinary kick and bit of a turnover king, he's a no for me.

  • Hard running - ok.
  • Tough at it - Hartung averages less than four contested possessions a game. By comparison well-known hard nuts like Aish, Scully and Stephen Hill all average six or more contested possessions a game.
  • Can chase down and tackle - Hartung probably can chase down but doesn't (1.6 tackles a game), Whitecross can probably tackle but can't chase down any more.
If we were getting hard running, tough at it midfielders and can chase down and tackle in a deal I'd be more optimistic, but that's not what's being hypothesized about here - it's Hartung and Whitecross.

Pretty sure Ricky Nixon is nothing but a joke at this point

As with all of this discussion on BF, it is purely "IMO". If Noble/Ambrogio/Fagan decide not to listen to me;) I like you will back them in.

Still backing our recruiters in...both Hartung & Whitecross would play midfield/forward...Both would need to earn their spots in our team..the competition for spots increases as it's not a given that these guys just walk into the side..Bit of healthy competition for our younger guys already on the list

We'll agree to disagree...I see it as a plan 2...if Cameron trade goes ahead then IMO only one will be offered a spot.

From a hawks fans perspective i can only see this happening if the deal Cameron falls through. so funny you said that.

playing devils advocate here is a hypothetical that is probs overs and biased but here it is anyway:
Hodge and Future 1st for Schache.
Hartung and Whitecross for pick 19.
That leaves Brisbane with 3 list spots to fill and 3 picks 1, 12, 18 + (41).

I posted that on the hawks board so its a good deal for hawks but i don't think its an absolutely terrible one for Brisbane. there could be some movement in the 2nd trade such as 41 and future 3rd instead of 19. you guys might de-list close and use 18 in the draft and 19 on that academy kid.

keen for some input but be kind :p

My main issue is the description of Hartung as tough at it and inclined to tackle. I don't think that reflects facts, so I'm not sure it's really a case to agree to disagree. :)

Get out of here. Pick 19 for a broken man and a seagull?

I had a 2nd suggestion whats your thoughts on that?
Hartung & Whitecross for pick 41 & 2018 (3rd)

you guys delist one of Close or C.Beams. take 1, 12, 18 & 19 to the draft.

Mate I got to see the Hawks several times this year through my works AFL tickets a ..In those games he was tough at it and laid some pretty impressive tackles...So I stand by what I have witnessed and will politely agree to disagree...:thumbsu:;)

There is not a player in the league (bar a top 10 AFL player) that is good enough to play for us apparently lol.

Don't know much about Hartung, but we need leg speed and he is young which would be handy given how slow we are and how badly we get cut up from one end of the gorund to the other, can also lay a tackle.

Whitecross is only 27 and he is very good when fit, if Fages sees value in him and a person and player, so do I.

TBH, whitecross would be a good upgrade for Nick Robbo who is yet to (bar 3 games earlier this season) show he is anywhere near the AFL level.

By the same token, if we don't land either I am not stressing.

Rock bottom.

I think you have to take what is said on trade radio with caution. Someone called up the other day saying they had the inside word that Carlton were making a play for Schache and would give up pick 5. It was pointed out to the caller that Carlton do not have pick 5. Pshhh.
