Wouldn't mind Gibson for 2 years on the cheap, just to help get the young mid brigade to that 22/23 year old mark. That would only be without Whitecross or Hartung though. Apparently he professional / training standards are elite, wouldn't be a horrible guy to have around.

I've always rated Gibson higher than Bastinac. Has good hands and tough. No pace though.
Interesting that Essendon gave pick 11 for Smith. Seems like they totally cracked the shits with the Dogs. Don't blame them but that's overs for Smith, even with the pick coming back.

If we’re picking up a midfielder it won’t be Gibson who’s solely an outside mid and 30 years old.

He is selfish, but he can play

The points balance are actually close to even. It was basically Smith for a fourth rounder based on points.

You must have missed the part where they sent a current and future second round pick back to GWS. Values Smith at much less than 11

Assuming you mean 'back to Essendon', I saw pick 24, was there a future one too?

However a 2nd round pick in this draft isn't anything special (GWS probably didn't see much value in it) and who knows how far back the 2nd pick for next year will be). I would be happy as a GWS supporter

Dodongo would like to see us make a play for pick 11. GWS having it is good.

After losing their first rounder due to the Whitfield saga, I think they'll be pretty happy to have pick 11. Not sure they'll give it up easily.

I also think this idea of adding up points is a bit misleading. I would rather pick 11 than later picks adding up to equivalent points. Different if the pick is later then the matching makes more sense.

Yeah my bad, thanks for the correction.
And my bad for relying on Trade Talk for an accurate summary of the trade. I now see that it involved two picks going back. Still reckon GWS would be ecstatic to get pick 11 for a wantaway.

I think Essendon did brilliantly wiht that deal. Roughly

GWS - in Pick 11 and (rouhgly) Pick 48 next year (1600 points)

Essendon - in Smith, Pick 24 and Pick 34 next year (1300 points)

So Smith for 300 points which is Pick 48.

While you'd rather have pick 11 Pick 24 you'll still find a reasonable player. and moving up from 48 to 34 next year shifts them from hoping to find a good player to finding a good prospect who has slid down the ladder.

Dodongo hasnt thought great detail in this but 18 and 19 for 11 and their other pick in the 20's.

Dodongo would ship 12 off to Adelaide for Cameron and a 2nd.

Dodongo would take to the draft 1 and 11 and then we have matching picks for Ballenden.

You're on the right track Dodongo even though Adelaide have given up their 2nd round pick 35 in the Lever trade.

I expect we'll head into the draft with 5 picks:
- pick 1
- an upgraded pick in the top 10
- 2 picks in the 20's to 30's to cover Ballenden
- a later pick in the 40's to 50's.

There are plenty of options and clubs to deal with to enable us to upgrade 12 and downgrade 18/19 i.e. Bulldogs (9 and 27), Collingwood (6 and 37), Freo (5 and 41) and the Saints. We could even possibly combine it in the Cameron trade with Adelaide (e.g. 12, 19 and 42 for 10, 53 and Cameron).

I'm expecting pick 74 will be used for Hodge.

There will also be a potential pick for Schache to throw into the mix as well.
