I'd be extremely surprised if he left to be honest, however, I don't think you can make such a statement until you see him in a lesser sides defence.
I disagree. I think you can take the attributes of a player and project how said player will perform elsewhere.
In Aliir's case, he is athletic and speedy so can be responsible for a player in a particular area quite well when the midfield is generating enough pressure to reduce the chances of a well-aimed ball coming in to his defended player's advantage. He doesn't read the ball incredibly well, but instead relies on his reactions to improve results. If it sounds like I'm describing a younger Dan Merrett, I noticed that too.
If you dropped him into our defensive structure he will probably look lost. It's not yet clear how Fagan will approach the regular season but the lesser midfield pressure means that the reaction speed hurts more as opposed to knowing where the entry is going to go (Andrews-style). We also have tended to play more man on man with third man duties sporadically applied where I think Aliir can be exposed by multiple leading patterns, etc, that require more game awareness to track.
I don't think Aliir is a finished product and in a couple of years this will probably be a significantly different story but I don't think he will improve our defence for some time yet.
