Personally I wouldn't mind taking a look at Jack Trengrove from the Demons. I think he has been injured the past few seasons but he would be an extremely cheap pickup. Needs game time but he definitely has some talent.
Isn't his foot cactus?

from the top 10 listed here assuming we have no chance with Fyfe or Dusty who are both a couple of years younger (25 years old) than Rocky, D.Beams, Zorko so would be great for our side with 6-7 years left in the game. would take Fyfe over Dusty.

i would be looking at Jasper Pittard, provides run and dash out of defense which we are crying out for, is only 25 as well.

Going to be a fire sale at Hawthorn come seasons end. They have put themselves in a horrid position by getting rid of two club legends in Mitchell and Lewis and got nothing in return for them. They have paid massive money for Tom Mitchell and O'Meara - which would have raised eye brows with more than a few players and they have given up their first two picks in this years draft. They have got GWS second round pick this year which won't give them a selection well into the 30s.

If Clarkson stays no one will be safe. Contracts recently signed will mean nothing (aside from Mitchell and O'Meara). What's more players who have got a year or two left on contracts with the Hawks will be looking to get out if they continue this current slide down the ladder.

The only way Hawthorn can rebuild is through the draft like they did when Clarkson first took over. They have no hand in this years draft.

The questions begs would our club be interested in any Hawthorn player and at what cost. Also would Fagan's time at the Hawks mean he has an advantage in attracting players?

Personally i would only be interested in players who have played 80-120 games. They have time on their side and maybe still the hunger. Outside of that i would only be interested in someone like Rioli if he became available but of course he would cost us a lot in salary and draft picks.

Do we look at a Taylor Duryea who has played 87 games? - is not a superstar but a solid player who would maybe fill a role in the back pocket a position we haven't consolidated. Also would cost maybe a third round pick?

Anyway thought it was worthy of a discussion? Mods if this is in the wrong thread then please feel free to move it.

Why would they trade Duryea for a third round pick? Third round picks doesn't have much value. They wouldn't want to spend too long at the bottom.

I was thinking more of picking up Burgoyne or Gibson for a one year playing, 2 year coaching type deal.

I think they are looking for anything they can get and remember our 3rd pick might be a pick or two after GWS's second pick? I have no interest in Burgoyne or Gibson as they're at the finish line and i question their desire and bodies.

BTW Dureya was just a name i threw out for discussion. I think we need to keep 3 picks inside the top 25 as part of our ever lasting rebuild but outside that we should look at getting someone in who has 80+ games into their body and provide the Lions good service for next 3-4 years. Perhaps the Hawks don't have anyone?

We need leaders and players to set standards. We don't need average, discarded footballers who have been made to look good by playing in a top side.

Just came to post similar - you'd think Fagan would be able to use those relationships to his advantage. I wouldn't be surprised if we nabbed someone like Puopolo for his forward pressure, meaning Robinson can play on the ball more. Isaac Smith is someone I think has benefited from Hawthorn's success, perhaps inflating his reputation to a greater height than his ability would naturally allow. But he would add badly needed foot speed to our group.

We do not own our third round pick this year. We have swapped third round picks with Collingwood. So maybe just a drop of one or two places.

Regardless, I have little enthusiasm about entering the free agency market unless it is for a top quality young player who will really will make a difference. We don't need any more seasoned or mature players more to round out our squad. Especially when the cost is draft picks. We are slowly building a young squad for the future, do not need to trade for any players who won't be a part of the future.

Very easy to trade a player and gain a pick or use a future pick. i disagree we don't need any more mature players - i would say we don't need players who have only a year or two left but we could really do with a solid AFL player who has had 5 or 6 seasons. We are still youngest list in the comp.

I don't think they'll be after anything they can get. Sure, they might be interested in off-loading some of their players for early picks but they're not going to toss everyone out the door for nothing. They have no reason to given their age profile is actually pretty young now - that's part of why they're struggling.

Would we be looking to offload guys like Rocky or Zorko for a third rounder because they probably won't be here when we're on the way back up? No, because we think they have more value to us and if they do want out we'd expect better value than that.

having a look at our lists age profile-

31 players in the 18-22 years of age range- plenty of talent here with the pick of them "potentially" ATM being McCluggage, Berry, Hipwood, Schache, Cox, Matheison, Andrews, Gardner, Cutler and Mayes.

10 players in the 23-26* years of age range- really lack talent (and numbers) in this range except for Christensen and Rich (based on the last 2 weeks he may have turned the corner). to highlight our lack of quality the other 8 are Grewar, Walker, Lester, Frost, C.Beams, Harwood, Bastinac and Bell. i would be all for trading in a couple of quality players if possible in the 23-24 years of age range.

7 players in the 27+ years of age range- except for Eagles and Bewick we have our best players here ie. D.Beams, Rockliff, Zorko, Robinson, Martin. all of these blokes are 27 except for Zorko (just turned 28) and Martin 30. so they have 3-4 years left minimum.

a massive lack of quality, numbers and talent in the mid range age guys, the go home 5 completely stuffed up our age profile and list build. should we still go solely for recruiting through the draft? IMO somehow we need to get in some quality in that mid age range. free agents (age)- Nat Fyfe (25), Dustin Martin (25), Luke Breust (26), Jasper Pittard (25) all RFA. the following players are currently listed as OOC on the main board- Darcy Parish, Orazio Fantasia, Brandon Matera, Jack Martin, Steven May, Devon Smith, Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper, Matthew Kennedy, Billy Hartung, Zac Jones, Jason Johaniison.

* we have no 23 year olds on our list.

Incorrect man, Hawks have the fourth oldest list in the AFL and are second for average games played.

Darcy Parish is one we should throw some money at. A midfielder selected in the top 5 of the draft, with two years under his belt having shown a fair bit at AFL level would be a massive get. Good mates with Matho, we have some coin to throw around.

yep, wouldn't mind that although of those i listed as OOC (Fyfe, Martin virtually no chance to come to us) i would have Pittard, Johaniison, Kelly, Smith, Fantasia, May and Hopper in front of Darcy based on needs.

If you take out the guys that aren't going to be there for much longer - Hodge, Gibson and Burgoyne - and replace them with draftees it drops to 23y 105d, or second youngest. Those three ancients are severely distorting their average age.

Their median age, which better accounts for those outliers, is actually 23y 1m. Our's is 21y 6m for sake of comparison.

May, yes but Parrish is going to be a quality midfielder. Play inside and out. I'd put him as the most talented on that list.
