Stop it!

You're making Dylan sound like an optimist.
I should expect one eyed supporters on a footy forum and it's good for the club to have those. Not sure anything I have said has been un true though. Guess this is the wrong place for being realistic. Hope I choke on my words not sure it going to happen.

Stevo reckons we could take Lin Jong tomorrow potentially in a Schache deal.

Not sure if that's just Stevo's wishful thinking or if there's anything more to it but I guess we do need another inside midfielder with Rocky gone and missing out on Kennedy.
Stevo?

Is it possible that players aren’t lining up to join the wooden spooners?
No doubt mate but we do have a cheque book and opportunities so thought we may dig a couple up. Wasn't expecting any superstars but was expecting something. Any way it not over hence why I started by original with so far......you happy with the way it's going?

Jong is a fair player, but plenty of better midfielders. A solid C+ grade player.

Would be wanting a 2018 2nd rounder in addition to this or a pick upgrade.

I think we've been pretty smart. Seems we have basically gone after Cameron & Kennedy.
I think the Kennedy to Carlton deal is what's holding it all up. They're not offering close to what we are & GWS are reluctant to accept Carlton under if there's a chance he might agree to go to us
If Kennedy goes through we might get Cameron if not we might punch Kennedy.
Otherwise we have great draft picks, so just because we haven't been super active doesn't mean we hadn't been smart.
Fagan always said we would target top 20 picks for 2-3 years before we look to top up with trading in experience. So far we haven't deviated from the plan

I'm glad were not just taking players for the sake of trading. The bulk of Our improvement over the next 5 years will be through the drafts of 2016-18

People get paid to find players who may be able to be swayed and sell the club to them. Not saying it's easy but it is what their job is. I'm naive am i, suggest pretending that having some sort of inside knowledge on the 'team' strategy when clearly just a supporter is naive. Thought the strategy beginning of trade week was couple of semi experienced mid fielders?

As always I like Dodongo's thinking, but I just can't see it happening. In a weaker trade, even if its relatively even in the top ten, you don't give up early picks.

1 for 7 and 8 we lose the best player in the draft and one of the best mids and we need quality. Not in our interests to do it, even if the Saints agreed and I don't think they will.

12 & 20 or 12 & 18 are probably enough points for 5 or 6 or 7, but sliding back 5 to 7 spots is a big ask. Last year we only slid back from 2 to 3. I'd say our only chance is 12 & 20 for 8 & 45 from the Saints. Will we get a much better player at 8 compared with 12?

43 and 45 will match a bid for Ballenden from 20, but the danger of this is if a bid comes before 18, then we match that with 18 and are left with 2 later picks when the quality is gone. Makes much more sense to me to use 1, 12 and 18 on the best players available and take Ballenden at 20.

43 is either sent to the Hawks for Hodge or used on Payne or best available. With changes this year, where no of picks must equal list spots, there will be no clubs wanting to move back, making pick exchanges much harder to do. Already 8 clubs are trying to move forward. Not going to happen unfortunately.

Pick 1 for 7 and 8 is an interesting one, if Saints do offer it to us. We stated early that we would be looking at 5 players for that top pick, off the top of my head it was Rayner, LDU, Dow, Stephenson and Brayshaw. So essentially we'd be moving away from grabbing one of those.

If we did make that trade, we'd have a reasonably strong hand, we could then look to get Carlton, Kangas or Fremantle and try a pick 7/8+20 for a top 5 + points, moving back into the range of the players we really like.

Essentially 1 + 20 could become 4, 8 and points for Ballenden. That type of trade would sit pretty well with me, 4,8,12, 18(CC, if Adelaide change their mind) and points for Ballenden.

As you stated thou, I'm not sure how Interested the Saints would be.

It was Cerra not Stephenson in the possible top 5. I like your suggestion, but you'd really want agreement on the second trade, getting 3, 4 or 5, before you did the first, otherwise we're locked out of the top 6 players.

Yep it was Cerra too, you'd want an agreement prior to trading the top pick.

Personally I don't see it happening, hasn't been any noise around anyone being overly interested either

Poor drafting has destroyed our club over the last 15 years (up until 3-4 years ago) smart trading and use of increased player movement is essential for rebuilding and sucsess.

I hope they turn it around I really do but have my doubts.
I don't think we've been sitting around doing nothing for the past 10 days.

This time last year there had been 14 trades completed and there ended up being 39 completed in total. I think there has been 9 trades so far to date ... so like last year, expect a lot to happen tomorrow. The'll be some pick exchanges as well. I have a gut feel that we'll trade pick 1 and have 3 picks in the top 12.

Lin Jong would be a worthwhile pickup. For a late draft pick.

He'd absolutely ruin our academy bidding plans but there's some positives. He's a fair bit of a tease player though; I swear every game I see him look impressive he ****s it up by doing something dumb or missing rudimentary set shots.
