Or we can just keep a lazy senior player who may play a couple of good games and then Jones can address the media again how he's had to question his commitment.

Sure, that's a great idea, look how well we've done with guys like him in a team over the last 8 years.
Couple of good games? Watts has been a great player over the last two seasons. Has three poor games in a row & suddenly he's the root of everything wrong with Melbourne over the past decade? Think footballing ability had more to do about results during that period than attitude. Not saying his attitude couldn't improve but giving him away for basically nothing is pointless. The guy has talent & can win us games. If he doesn't play well we drop him like we did late in the season. There are plenty of other players that had worse seasons than him & escape scruitiny but Jack Watts is always one bad game away from being the scapegoat of our failure. I understand why he is being used as trade bait as we have a number of KPF now if we get Lever, but unless we get something decent why get rid of one of our best users of the ball when we are crying out for players with skill.

How many games has he won us himself?

This gets thrown around a lot, it's a common fallback argument but the reality is that it rarely happens.

Also, how many other players has the captain given a public whack for lack of commitment? This isn't coming from a supporter, this is from the captain.

However I'm not sure we're you're getting a KPF from, he's never played like a true KPF and to call him 'great' over the last two seasons is stretching reality to the point of breaking. He played some good games this year but if that's how we measure greatness then it's no wonder we didn't make the finals. Great players don't play 2nds when we need them the most.

Might be good for a laugh?

I long for the Melbourne of old where missing finals was a foregone conclusion and every win felt like witnessing a rare celestial event. Who wants to deal with the anxiety of maybe playing in September when you can have a stress-free month getting to know the next batch of potential superstars on the list?

Losing Salem and Watts- our two most skilful players- could be a blessing in disguise. If we can get a second round for Oliver, I'd take that too.

While we're at it, let's see if Eade or preferably Neeld are looking at a new development role?

Lever's old man commenting on a Dee's FB page regarding his salary for next season, someone mentioned that 800K isn't what you'll be paying him and his old man said, "your right, its way off the mark"

100% locked in for you boys.

Great pick up.

Lever's old man is a little rough too by the look of it! haha..
God I'd hate it if my parents publicly talked about my career and personal life to strangers on facebook.

C'mon mate how many games has anyone won by themselves? It's pretty easy to be critical of someone if that is what you are basing performances on.
I've conceded that his attitude could improve & he performed poorly after his injuries, but despite missing 6 games this season he still managed to finish in the top 5 players as voted here on big footy on top of finishing third last season. I'd say that makes him at least in our top ten players.
So you can pull me up on my definition on great if you like but I think those places show how good he has been over the last two seasons.
All it takes is three bad weeks in a row for the anti Jack Watts hysteria to start up again.
Want to get rid of him? That's fine (I prefer we didn't but if he helps land us Lever or gets us another proven player that we need I can accept that) but lets not give him away for a second rounder who could very well be a bust.

Why do we spend so much time every year discussing things that we known will never happen? Unlike people on this board the list managers aren't a bunch of *******s.

Incidentally I've identified the one thing that will push me over the line of giving up on this club - an alternate universe where BigFooty is responsible for trading.

No, it's a discussion that needs to be addressed and we need to be honest with ourselves. Players like Watts are extremely talented, but he also lacks intensity and goes missing when we need him.

I've believed for a long time that Watts will only give us benefit when we build a team so we don't need him or rely on him to win a game.

If we need him to make finals then we won't have success because he doesn't have the mental toughness like great players. Calling him great is way off

They can still make mistakes though (Lumumba) but all we are doing is discussing the club and this is a footy forum. Imagine how boring life would be if everyone agreed with each other.

Chill out and have a nice hot cup of tea

its already plainly obvious that lever is a done deal, but not sure if youve been given info on what the deal will be?

not one to say i have "sources" but happened to meet someone pretty important last night and it sounds like pick 10 plus a future 1st is the word

I think this is to much as he is uncontracted if it is the case I think we will ask for something more maybe this years or next years 2nd round

Heard rumours that Jack Watts is open to coming to Collingwood. Anyone else hear anything similar?
At this time of year, Collingwood is usually linked to every player trade. Surprisingly quiet this year.

After the backlash from getting Mayne and Wells, I'd suggest that you'll only target genuine A graders. And Watts doesn't fit that criteria.

Not sure Collingwood is the best for for Watts. They probably need a player to play that number one forward. Also I'd say he is in decent coin. Need more than 36 for him.

I reckon, regardless of Bucks' extension, they're far from out of the woods in respect of the intense scrutiny they'll cop season long. It's absolutely the last place arguably the most scrutinised player in the game should be headed. And thats just off field, on field, he just doesn't fill a need for them.

As others have said, after their post season debacle last year, they should be keeping their picks and their cheque book under lock and key unless they've got a bonafide superstar on the way.
