I just have this odd feeling Lever won't end up at Dees
Asking price is too much
We'll barter them down. Pick 10, 2018 second and swap of 2017 3rd rounders for Lever. He's a quality player, but he wants to leave. Sucks to be Adelaide in this situation, but I'm sure 2017 premiership will help ease the pain.

What are the reported reasons Lever wants to move back to Melbourne, is it purely not enough money at the Crows or is it family/ girlfriend?

If its the latter then fair enough but you would have to question the mindset of the bloke if he is willing to leave his potentially premiership teammates for more coin.

I want him and think we need him but really if flags were his number 1 priority you would think he woukd be keen to stay with Adelaide at least for another 2 years.

Both I think. Plus reportedly was insulted at the Crows' initial offer - reportedly was $300k difference between the Crows and other clubs.

The premiership will ease the pain of Lever leaving? More like Lever leaving will put a slight dab in their overjoyed celebrations.

Yeah, I was understating it a bit. Lever will leave for unders, but Adelaide won't be needing much sympathy from anyone, especially if they win on Saturday. Massive credit is due to Adelaide though, they've shown themselves to be a hugely resilient club over the last five years. Despite the Walsh tragedy and endless production line of departing stars they've continued to improve on the field year on year. They would be more than worthy premiers.

Surely he isn't that naive... better players than him have taken $300K haircuts for premiership success.

I don't get it personally. He can win flags, no crazy melbourne media scrutiny, and he's got the kind of defensive unit around him that allows him to get the best out of himself. Unless he's been listening to his manager too closely, sounds like a gold digger to me.

$300k haircuts? Haha. I like how you say it like its a smidge pay cut.

The kid is what? 21? I was happy as hell when my pay rate went up $1.18 on the hourly at that age!

I'm not saying its not significant, but look at folks like Frawley. Accepted way less money at the Hawks to get a flag.

Frawley was already 25-26. People have different priorities and it would no doubt change with age.

At 21 I was all about double shifts and working on holidays. It was about money.

He may even believe Melbourne are a team on the up and genuinely believes Mebourne have a window.

If it is $300k that's not a haircut. That's insane amounts of money annually.

If thats what drives him, fair enough. All I'm saying is that there are still positives to staying at Adelaide.

Its also hard because of all the stuff thrown around, its all made up or innuendo. hard to formulate an opinion based on facts.

Totally agree, they fully deserve it this year. Lever joins that list of quality players leaving Adelaide that they have developed and it would suck to lose a premiership player

Remember Lever made AA squad of 40. He is very good. Didn't have a great game last night but I did like his reading of the play and his foot skills are well needed in our back 6.
21yo key defender will only get better.
Meh. I place 0 value in that popularity contest. He might be good, but being AA isn't an indicator.

Lol. The media scrutiny in Adelaide is twice as much as in melbourne

It will never happen, but if trade talks with Adelaide broke down and we couldn't reach an agreement and Lever walked into the National Draft, which clubs do you think would take him before us at 10? I figured none of the first four picks, but anyone after that might be willing.

The only time in recent memory I can think of this happening is with Luke Ball who survived until a pick in the mid twenties, to get to the club he wanted to go to in the end. Lever probably has a bit more appeal though for clubs looking to change his mind.

Ball also put a monster price on his head for every side not named Collingwood.

You can't put different prices for different clubs, you can only put up one contract.

Ball said he wanted $700k in year one and $100k for both his 2nd and 3rd years. $900k over 3 years.

Most clubs couldn't afford $700k in year one but Collingwood could. I remember clubs complaining that they couldn't offer 3 years at $300k per year.

I'd be wary of giving up 2x first rounders for Lever for many reasons.
1. Other clubs will try bend us over the table
2. As Danger Buddy and Ablett have shown one player doesn't make any difference in footy now.
3. We really haven't taken any picks to the draft lately, apart from Weid what young talent do we have in the reserves? None.

I would think Saints are a possibility to suddenly go after Lever. They have put themselves out there as having massive cap space for a “big” recruit, they traded to get 2 first rounds for this year and their well publicised chase for big name players has gone nowhere. Personally I think that they need midfielders, but I wouldn’t put it past them to swoop in over Lever just to satisfy their need to find that big name trade.
