I would be devastated if we traded Jack. Best kick in the team, versatile enough to play 3 different positions, loves the footy club and deserves to be there for the good times.

So he has some issues with consistency? Drop him to the 2s every now and then - it's worth it for when he is at his best. Gutted.

Port have all sorts of cap issues don't they? they'd be looking to trade out a player
Hamish Hartlett again perhaps
See Barrett 'purple' is a joke. He's got it in for Port for some reason and just talks rubbish, constantly. But he's the best news breaker in the business! He's like an umpire, should not be seen, just do your job and don't think your better than the game....

Wouldn't be surprised if its part of the Lever deal.

Not sure what to believe about the Jack Watts situation. I think our pick 29 is defintely in play, and the likes of Impey, Young and AhChee all are as well. Could potentially be pick & player for Watts if a deal eventuated

The supposed Port salary cap issues are inaccurate. The desperate attempts to trade players last year was about getting as many draft picks as possible to bring in kids rather than being about cap pressure. My understanding is the club has a fair bit of salary cap room now with Trengove gone and the new CBA deal kicking in (all of Port's long-term signings occurred under the old CBA).

Re Hartlett, there is actually a bit more to that story. In a nutshell, a trade was actually agreed to with a Victorian club last year (which involved Port paying some of his salary), but it was renegged on late by a certain very senior member of Port's footy department.

There are players on the list that Port are willing to trade. After the debacle with Hartlett last year, he won't be shopped around again. A few names that I expect are on the trade table are:
Impey
Young
Broadbent
Ah Chee
Lobbe

Clearly none of those blokes on their own would get a trade done for Jack. So it's a mystery to me how Port could satisfy the Dees in this deal, unless they were willing to swap him for Impey + pick 29. Can't see us trading a pick in next year's super-mega draft. My gut feel (with zero inside info on this matter) is that he was in Adelaide to scope out the Crows, and he/his management took the oppo to tour Alberton.

If Jack is traded wouldn't mind one of Darcy Byrne Jones, Dan Houston, Logan Austin coming our way.

Don't know if Port cough up Houston and 29 but I'd be happy with that, Houston can play half back and is still a young kid, and Port coaches don't seem to rate him as much as they should. Still a young kid as well.

Although I'd rather see Frost get a go at half back, if Goody doesn't give Frost the opportunity then Houston is still a very solid option.
This is a pretty astute post. Logan Austin would be a chance and is a good prospect in a position that we have surplus players. Houston and DBJ are seen as pillars for a while to come, so I don't think they'll be on the table.

I didn't think it was necessarily cap issues, but more long contract issues. Don't you have a huge number of players on 3 to 5 year deals?

Yeah, there are a few, which obviously prevents our list management from being agile. The guys who are definitely on longish deals are:
Boak
Gray
Dixon
Ryder
Wingard
Lobbe
Hartlett

Reckon The reason we are looking to off load Watts is to make cap room for Lever and make sure we have enough to keep our stars (Petracca) happy as they will get some offers throughout next year.

Is he a young kid though? ;)
