Look i don't mind dabbling in the occasional joke at Marsdens expense..

But even in 2018 i'd say he's still ranked higher than Karpany, Cole and Nelson as far as being a midfielder goes.
And venebles who hasnt played a game

I don't get the take Kelly at 26 because Carlton might take him at 30 argument.

Do we take worpel at 21 also if there are rumors that Geelong might take him at 22.

Who cares what other clubs are doing, at 26 we take the player we rate the most, not the player we fear might be taken by another club . If kelly is deemed avilable at 26 then so be it, but if there is a better option (i.e. Zac Bailey) then I sure do hope we take him.
There has to be an element of strategy to ensure you get more of the players you want. But this would only be if you rated the player and the reach wasn't too high.

Other boards don't rate Higgins as highly as we do i've noticed.

Knocks on his pace/height combination and exactly where he fits at AFL level. No questions from me, he's a Toby Green esque forward/mid and i'd jump at the opportunity to grab him.
That's because we have been starved of talented smaller forwards for so long

Other supporters are probably frothing over KPDs or HBFs but those types give us a soft-on

Harry Taylor ( WA boy ), Alex Rance ( WA Boy ), Callan Ward, Easton Wood and Cale Hooker say hi Mr know it all.
At the end of 2007 we had just lost Judd, Cousins and RoJo from the midfield rotation, there was zero chance we were picking up Rance or Taylor with our early picks.

Wood and Hooker were speculative picks taken after 50, in your scenario we would have had to take them at picks 20 or 22 which would have been massive reaches given how they were rated by everyone.

Ward is the only one you can really claim as a miss there, and even he ended up doing an Ebert and left so we wouldn’t have been much better off.

The other thing to consider was in 2006 we drafted 4 talls in Mitch Brown, Eric McKenzie, Will Schofield and James Thomson. Picking even more key position players over mids which we needed more would have been a dumb move.

He was also, from memory, the Under-18 AA captain playing as an inside mid. The reason he was taken at 3 was that we weren't the only ones who rated him highly, but hindsight is 20/20.

Lets Dance!!! - Monocle , if by some miracle both Higgins and Clark were both left on the board at our first pick...Who would you choose?
Really! You are asking the President of the Hunter Clark Association that question.

Actually a good question as I expected Higgins to go earlier. Will be interested in his view. I suggest it is a win either way

You can justify taking Notte and Masten all you like in here, this very act of poor decision making cost us 1 flag in my opinion. We were due another flag these last 5 or 6 seasons and we blew it in the administration side which should never happen. Injuries, form and strategy should cost us not friggin picking dud after dud.

It’s easy to be a hindsight hero 10 years later with your draft picks, but you failed to take into consideration our plight at the time.

Again we just lost 3 starting mids, picking Taylor at 3 and Rance at 13 would have been madness.

Yep ..... and for me there lies the problem that I have with taking him with one of our second rounders , if we did we would need to be pretty darn sure we could improve his consistency and thats part of why he needs to find more of the footy.
No doubting he does a lot of things well just needs to do it more often.
Definitely a concern, averaged 14.3 disposals a game at colts. But seems to be very coachable which could mean he's glass half full.

Let me explain it. He is West Australian and if he goes at 30, we will hate it if he becomes a star.

On flip side, if he gets taken at 26 and Carlton draft a superstar at 30, that’s ok, at least they didn’t get one from WA.

Nothing to do with picking best player. Still perception that recruitment networks only extend to local and that somehow to know other players, you have to wait for the VHS tape passed around at end of the year.
