Token defence of Hutchings post: we get a lot out of him for what he costs us. The problem isn't Hutch,
it's that nobody has been forcing him out of the 22. Bloke gets a bum steer around here and it's unfair at times.
I wasn't really taking aim at Hutch but I don't think we need another one on the list.

I think Schloithe offers more versatility in terms of position and ability to hit the scoreboard. An upgrade, IMO.
I dont know about that. If Hutchings was left at East Perth all year he would end up with some decent numbers. In 2013 he average 27 disposals and over a goal a game. One of those guys that is very comfortable at WAFL level but is mediocre at AFL. Schloithe is likely the same.

Im probably one of the biggest exponents of wanting Schloithe on the list. I feel we are very, very light on in the midfield once we get past shuey, sheed and redden on the inside and gaff on the outside. I'd be more than happy to use both 69 and 87 on Schloithe and Banfield if there is nothing better available. In saying that i'd probably prefers banners in as our first rookie and Scott Jones at 87.
I have very similar feelings Schloithe would be a great as a rookie along with Scotty Jones
who wce are pretty keen on.

Iam also a very big on Cody Ninyette spelt his name wrong

I'm not opposed to someone like schloithe on the rookie list. Gives us depth and will be able to step up afl level immediately if needed, whereas a lot of our main draft rookies might not be ready.

I don't think Liam Ryan can transition to an AFL list, particularly if he stays in WA. I just don't see the commitment there at the moment, I may be wrong, it's happened before.

Ninyette i would be happy with depending on list spots. We definitely need another genuine small forward on the list it just depends where that fits in and if its this year. While I think we need one the club has seemed loathe to draft true small forwards outside of Willie Rioli last year.

I think Miers would be ideal as our new small forward. He will eventually be able to spend time in the middle as well. Ideally pick 32. Not sure if he will last till then.

Small forwards unless truly exceptional tend to slide come draft day. If we want miers I have no issue with the pick however i'd probably do it at 37 if available.

I think we need to understand the current list age profile so that we can understand what the club will be doing with taking some mature draftees.

Here is the current list and I have a slightly different set up compared to Suma Magic but it tells a similar story. I will do it in 2 posts to make it easier to read.

The present list shows how light on we are with players on our list that were in the 2011 to 2012. We only have 1 player that age group that we drafted ourselves (and McInnes is hanging onto a spot by a thread) and one that we traded for in Yeo. Other than that, the compromised draft years were a complete failure.

My draft assumption is the following

13 – Clark
21 – L Fogarty
26 – Z Bailey
32 – T Kelly
37 – D Moore
69 – B Miller
87 – H Schloithe
Rookies – B Banfield, S Jones

Please note, apart from Miller, I am pretty confident that player or a similar player will be available at that pick. I am not saying we must take the above, but it would be good to have a haul from the draft like the above.

Here is what our profile could look like post draft

Winning the sand over medal surely deserves him another crack at it. I find it hard to understand sometimes when we have players on our list that can't even get 15 touches in the WAFL, while there are other players raking up 30+ per game, and don't get a second look.
Re-draft mcginnity?

Meirs will be there at 26 not confident about 32.

So its a choice of Kelly, Meirs or say Fogarty at 26.

I would go Meirs, cross fingers for Kelly at 32 and use Schloithe as a backup plan if Kelly is gone but not at 32 use a later pick.

Kelly + other small FWD > Schloithe + other mid

If we're going to add midfield depth with our rookie picks can we at least get one with some upside like Kyron Hayden?

Not sold on adding Sloth to the list when as Dajesmac has rightfully pointed out, we already have a solid backup in Hutchings.

And if Hutchings is playing seniors come round one, then we have an even bigger problem.

You don't think Carlton will pull the trigger on Kelly with pick 30?

I would hope that our recruiting team pick the player they rate the best for our list at 26 regardless where they come from.

Would I like Kelly on our list next year , YES I would , do I want him at any cost NO I dont.

If the recruiters pick up who they consider to be a better player than Kelly at 26 and Carlton take him at 30 and we miss out, then so be it.

I just want us to have a plan, stick to it, and ensure the collective 5 picks in the top 37 give us the mix we need.

I am looking for one of Spargo, Moore or Miers as a small forward that can possibly go into the midfield. All three are good and cover a lot of the same but also give you something different.

Likewise L Fogarty, Bailey and Kelly are all midfielders that are good options

We will need to judge the draft on the overall profile after all the picks.

Our List Management and Recruiting Team are going to have to work their arses off in the coming month and will be on high alert come draft night. A mixture of keeping nerves, making good decisions, being true to the plan and adapting as the draft unfolds so that we walk away with what we need and not a bunch of best available. This is not a normal draft for a list team so it will bring about a bunch of scenario planning techniques.

Call me sick but I would love to be on the team in the coming month. Scary, daunting, uncertain, etc for many, but overall just a load of fun.

Would Zac Langdon be a chance as a small forward just heard about him , would be a very late pick or rookie pick same as Liam Baker also .

ps Zac is from the Pilbara too !!

Like the idea of Liam Baker with a later/ rookie pick also. Think the change to Subiaco under the coaching of Schofield has done him good, he has worked hard at his deficiencies and would be worth a speculative pick for any club later in the piece.

IMO Hartung has streadily improved and for a feee hit as the 39th or 40th player on our list what is there to lose really?

Clarko doesnt rate him due to lack of physicality and tackling and that is understandable to a certain degree.

Can we sign him for 12 months as a DFA?

Would love for him to come over and prove a few Big Footy experts wrong.......like Petrie did!o_O:cool::D
I agree, no harm, costs nothing except a low $ contract. ******* quick though and defensively can be improved..
