I think thats underrating him a little bit throne. We all bemoan not having speed.... Least we know he can play AFL footy. If he costs nothing...?
You're right, rubbish is harsh. But let's say picking him up means we take one less pick in the draft - I'd rather take a punt on a Ryan or Schloithe on the list.

I was keen as well on Hartung if he costs nothing. But after I read about his year (see below), he sounds like a quicker Mastern. No impact and many turnovers.

This from his round 12 game.

12 GCS Won the ball but his skill level and decision-making was atrocious. Not sure he’s part of the future at the club.

Except he's 22.

I think we should be looking at Schloithe anyway. No guarantee draft picks can play AFL footy... our track record isnt dazzling.

Mofra's hartung entry in worst 50 on the Bay is worth a read. Satirical but not without a point. Unless we regarded him as a cheeeeeap just-in-case-gaff-leaves option, I can't really see a rationale. Would rather take a punt elsewhere myself.

Definitely sounds like Mastern.

I love the quote they said about him.
"he has the composure of a teenage girl meeting One Direction" Hilarious.

I dunno. Hutch looks very good at WAFL level himself.
2012:
Former rookie listed 21 year old Mark Hutchings polls 51 votes in the Sandover. Gets drafted and carves out a mediocre career as a depth midfielder.

2017:
Former rookie listed 24 year old Haiden Schloithe polls 52 votes in the Sandover. Gets drafted and carves out a mediocre career as a depth midfielder.

He just got delisted from a team that finished outside too 8. If he is so f$&@ing good, then why did he get delisted?

Get over your speed shite. We have speed in Jetta and how is that working out? I don’t think u have a full grasp of what u need to bring to table to play afl and speed is not enough.

I also find it disturbing that people think hartung is replacement for gaff. On what planet? Gaff has excellent two way running which hartung does not have. He also gets it 10 times more a game with very few turnovers.

Just astonishing some suggestions.

Although unlike Jetta, hartung;

1. Actually gets the football
2. Actually runs with the football
& 3. Is only young with plenty of improvement left in him.

I'd take a punt on Hartung over Sloth any day of the week. Would be a sensible inclusion despite the knock on his contested game.

Schloithe wont make it as a mid at AFL level. That's where the stars go. Schloithe will be a half foward, I think.

He's also different from Hutchings in that he has AFL level athleticism.
I feel Hutchingson is treated a bit unfairly. I wonder if he has ever been told to go out there and attack and take the game on. Maybe he has but all I have seen is he is played as a defensive mid or tagger. As a tagger by the way, he did a very good job this year.

Yes he did do a very good job, but lets be realistic its one of the easiest jigs, a bit like playing the loose man in defence.

Unfortunately thats way beyond his capabilities, the fact that he lacks any sort of awareness or vision , prevents him being able to attack the game.

I have never seen a player get tackled as often as Hutchings does, due to his lack of awareness of whats going on around him.
You can see him summing up a situation in his head..... in slow motion..... next minute the whistle goes....... "holding the ball".... talk about a momentum killer.

That's because it's the only role he can properly play at AFL level. Takes an eternity to get rid of it and telegraphs his disposals badly.

Fair enough. I am not a huge supporter of Hutchingson either.
As soon as we get some young mids, he is out as far as I am concerned. We just haven't had the replacement this year, with Venables injured and nothing else besides Mastern in the WAFL.

Absolutely no chance. We'd be blessed if he fell to 13.
I once thought that but I'm no longer convinced. I think the main knock on him is the fact he may just be a forward at the next level (not that I necessarily agree). I reckon he might slide past our first (but probably not much past 15).
