All this Vardy v Lycett talk! Why not play Vardy CHF, Lycett as a resting tall and finally move Darling to the midfield!!
Jack has been tried in the midfield. I have watched him live at state 15s, 16s, etc. It was tried in his final year of 18s. He cannot adjust to playing in the guts. In addition he does not have the tank. He cannot concentrate enough. These last 2 factors help to explain why he often has a very good first half and then tails away. Jack is a natural forward. He copes very well with the ball coming at him, at his area of the ground and instinctively knows how to turn back properly after winning or halving a contest. That is what makes the good forwards stand out. He is not and will never be a mid though.

I'm going to argue with your post Quinz because I'm a campaigner and it's how i get the ladies.

Your post measures weight of numbers, opponents, times of goals etc.. sweet that's very insightful.

But does it measure distance from the goals? Ie. when he receives a cheap handball in the square?

What about when all his teammates have done the hard work and he's running back towards goals with a shit eating grin on his face? After refusing to follow his opponent up the ground who has ran off him to be involved in the play and we've got a lucky turnover.

I mean don't get me wrong, JK, Darling and Cripps also get those kind of goals. But it's the fact Lecras ONLY gets those goals now which is the problem.

Got any pressure stats? Specifically a drop off over the past 2 seasons? Goal assists? Tackles? Yamum?

Nah jokes brah you're cool you're cool, i don't even care about any of those answers. Just killing time in the airport :):eggplant:

In saying Cripps is out, who would you bring in as a pressure forward?

Options:
Rioli - big question mark as to whether he wants to play AFL enough to get fit, build endurance and deliver. His first year was underwhelming and with the new haul of draftees, he will need to deliver quickly or find himself delisted come year end.
Partington - assuming he gets picked, he will probably spend some on HFF and running through the midfield. I see him as more mid than forward.
Cripps - agree that he is not a great forward. He lacks vision inside and has those lazy shots for goals ignoring options coming downfield. He is not a crumber. He is not a great kick distance wise. But what he does deliver is forward pressure to lock the ball into our 50. He was required to come in too soon after injury in 2017 and then played in a compromised role to cover up for LeCras who was not chasing and providing much in the pressure stakes.
LeCras - I firmly do not believe the LeCras of 2017 is our best option. We backed him in and he has spent all his credits in the bank. Time to go back to WAFL and earn his deposit. I hope he is depth and will only be called upon if we have injuries or if his WAFL form merits it. Hell, I would be giving Karpany games ahead of LeCras and that is saying something.

love the idea of the experienced lecras having to prove himself in the wafl first and playing youth ahead of him, if only the mc saw it that way this rebuild might not take as long but i just cant see it hapening sigh.

I don't think Bond is in the recruitment team at all. I've always had the feeling that he's a former player (early 90's era) that still gets down the club from time to time.

Think you misunderstood. It was a joke.

It's certainly relevant. The manner in which he kicked a lot of goals in 2017 is what I was getting at in my post. If I have some time I might trawl through some highlights to see if I can justify my thoughts. I mean, I'm sure I'm not the only person that noticed how many seagull goals he kicked in 2017.

Some really interesting info there. A factor from last year that may also skew his data wrt 4th quarter goals and goals while in front is the fact that for so many games last year we lead most of the way only to fall apart in the last quarter. So with most of the game being played in the opposition half during 4th quarters this year its not surprising to see his 4th quarter goals dipped significantly. If I could be arsed researching, I'd be willing to bet our other forwards would show similar patterns. Furthermore, the % of goals kicked whilst leading would also be skewed as we spent a considerable % of time in the lead last year- I seem to recall a stat part way through the year where WCE had spent the highest % of game time in the lead for the league. Again, I would imagine other forwards would display similar trends wrt goals kicked while in the lead.

Maybe another project Quinz??
We actually lead the league in time in front % over the H&A season, which is interesting. Richmond and Adelaide were 2nd and 3rd.

Cool story, but factually incorrect.

You’re assuming my original post on the subject, which wasn’t attributed to any particular poster, was referring to a post you made. So your suggestion that I misread your post is based on a false premise.

A number of posters had made comments about why they thought it was pointless drafting midfielders with our early picks. Essentially their argument was based on the proposition that you can’t get gun midfielders at pick 13. I disputed that.

You then seem to have decided it was all about you and made a series of stupid comments, initially accusing me of strawmanning you (when I hadn’t even attributed the proposition the subject of my first post to you). You then made some nonsensical comment about the odds of getting an A grader at our picks as being about 1%. With a quick sample from past drafts, I demonstrated the stupidity of that.

You sought to drag the discussion on and it all got rather boring. So I left you to it.

After I read the first paragraph I scratched my head and then went for a walk...

Just cementing the fact our list profile has dramatically changed this off-season, going from the oldest list down to 11th:thumbsu:

Still, our list is whack. 15 players with 100+ games (2nd most behind Port & Hawks), with 16 yet to debut (most).
Hopefully that number comes down with Venables, Ryan, Rioli, Waterman, Watson, Brayshaw at least getting games in 2018.

TAC CUP SUMMARY
"#11 Hamish Brayshaw
– Was a damaging player in the midfielder, winning the ball and using his strong frame. Was able to hit the scoreboard, but his smarts in the contest were notable. Has been injury free this season and there’s no doubt his VFL form has helped him come back into the TAC Cup as a better player."

It's conceivable that we have 4 (maybe 5) debutants in Round 1 next year - Venables, Watson, Ah Chee, Ryan/Rioli, and possibly Brayshaw. Add Nic Nat back on top of that and boy will our team have a completely different look and feel to it.
Simmo promised it.

I can relate to that, my hip joint is rooted after flying. Then agihave a few more km on the clock than Le cras.
One of Le Cras best games last year was away against Port earlier in the year? I just think some just mark him harshly because of his past history when he was a dead-eyed dick! Will never forget that away game v Essendon some years ago when he kicked 12 - was a delight to watch. He could do no wrong that day. A shame we couldn't clone him:rolleyes:.
