I think I was happy to rookie Banfield last year and actually the players I wanted at pick 45 in this years Mock draft was gone already ,so could this selection of Banfield lasted till our pick 67 ??

where you do you see Banfielder getting drafted 3rd or 4th round ?
Not much difference in position once you get to middle of 3rd round so 3rd to 4th sounds about right. The view is that the draft is deep enough through to the 3rd round and after 50 it may open up more to overage players. Who knows just yet since we have more of the PSA boys playing games plus U18 given WAFL and SANFL senior games. On top of that, Clayton D'olIVER was not on many talent boards at this time 2 years ago. You only need 20 players growing 3 cm or getting their coordination right and suddenly we have a deeper draft.

Just having a very early, pre-trade week stab at a top ten to get a rough idea of who might be available. More just out of boredom than anything.

#1: Brisbane Lions - Luke Davies-Uniacke
#2: North Melbourne - Cameron Rayner
#3: Carlton - Jarrod Brander
#4: Collingwood - Adam Cerra
#5: Gold Coast - Darcy Fogarty
#6: St Kilda - Jaidyn Stephenson
#7: Fremantle - Sam Hayes
#8: Western Bulldogs - Hunter Clark
#9: Essendon - Jack Higgins
#10: West Coast Eagles - Lochie O'Brien

So, on this basis we could also have available:
  • Nick Coffield
  • Oscar Allen
  • Paddy Dow
  • Joel Garner
  • Aaron Naughton
etc etc

Well if that's the order I'm hoping Essendon and the Bulldogs jump ahead of us.

Hunter Clark is the type we need.

What do we think the chances of delisting and then rookie'ing Lamb are? Or is he done with us ?
Depends on whether there's any interest from one of the Victorian clubs

I think he tested the waters last year and couldn't find a club that wanted him or a club that was prepared to offer the same money as we were. There was next to no information in the media about him so that's a guess by me

My guess is this year he'll do the same and depending on how happy he is to stay here might take a lower money offer just to get home

If we delist him I reckon he'll go home rather than stay as a rookie although I also think the club will want to keep him (unless we do get Mitch McGovern)

That's all guesswork though and coloured by my stubborn hope that he stays and fulfills his talent

Do you think he's been worth giving a game to this year? I'd say you've probably seen more of him than anyone else.

Would our first pick be enough for either of Zak Jones or Jacob Hopper?
Hoppers value is hard to gauge. If we can get either of these two, wouldn't that be a better choice than crossing fingers Hunter Clark?

*Both these guys seem like the type that is strong in character, I don't think a move west would bother too much.

Not sure on what academy points they have but I would have thought s second and third might do it.

We keep our 1st for a gun mid and one of those 2

Jones would be the bull in a china shop mid we need.

Fremantle and two Melbourne clubs keen on Matera from the GC Suns , unless GC offer Matera a significant offer .

West Coast has not shown any interest in the 25 yr old .

Interesting considering many tweets have indicated we are .

We'd be crazy to not be thinking about it at least

The fact Matera's form has tapered off after a purple patch to start the season is a good thing for us.

If he plays the homesickness card we could possibly get him even cheaper, if we were so inclined.

Has missed recent games with a hot spot in his foot .....we normally handle these pretty well or at least have experience in this area / :$
Lot depends on how Willie Rioli goes

It's in his interest to speak with Freo, will drive his price up.

Peter is probably coaching him on how to get the best $$ - he did the same thing to us back in the 90's, pretended he wanted to go to another club and got a better contract.

Brandon Matera isn't a priority, he's Cripps without the pressure acts and is the same age. Most of the interest from supporters is due to his surname

Our priority should be the draft

He's more of a need than gov jnr and would be cheaper

Pretty much agree

Both McGovern and matera would be handy but neither are a list priority and the bargain chips we'd need for either are probably better utilised elsewhere

We should be aiming to get as many picks as possible, as high as possible, inside the top 50 without using future picks

Agreed. It's hard to imagine that there will be any new Victorian interest for him if it was true that he didn't get any bites last year. I agree that he will likely turn down a rookie contract with us and I could see him moving to the VFL to try and revive his career.

Parto has finally given up on winning senior selection and decided to take up umpiring.
Even more puzzling is that's in Newman which is a two hour flight although arguably something that could be done in a day
