problem - we can't win a inside 50 count due to the fact our small slow midfield who can't jump, chase and tackle and are only good when we have the ball in our hands.
Solution- maybe give Tom Lamb a go. He along with Yeo are the only ones who can do all of the above
Result- nah let's pick hill. Lamb needs to go back and maybe try him full back this week, he hasn't played there yet
Is Lamb quick and a good tackler though, comparable to Yeo? I thought he was more of a tall utility, like Westoff or Jack Watts.

I'm all for giving Lamb a go, particularly if Hill has already checked out, but he won't fix the midfield. Nor is he in any way a Gaff replacement.

what an emotional comment.
He hasn't player a decent WAFL game I believer - one perhaps was a glimpses of effort. His attitude is constantly describes as very poor and what board would have a in selection.

I think the club is run by more rational thinkers
I thought his last few weeks have been pretty solid? Mid to high 20's disposal counts and a change of role...

He's comparable to Yeo in that he can jump, take a mark, and actually run someone down which no one else besides Yeo can do that spend any time in the midfield. I'm not saying replace Gaff by any means but when you have Hutchings on a wing with too many to tag and as a midfield can't keep the ball locked in the forward half because you can't compete for the ball in the air or chase anyone he has every right to be disgruntled. He won't fix the midfield but he might help it

Patrick Farrant relative unknown but is a local smokie of the draft .

17 yr old indigenous player from Bunbury FC , has a younger brother believed to be even more exciting .

Patrick Farrant has been invited to the state combine and is playing colts for SD after not playing any 16s or 18s State team football . Brett Peake played with Farrant at Bunbury FC and rates him as a special talent .

Interesting to see if West Coast show any interest at 185cm and a good contested mark against grown men in the SWFL sounds like he is a chance to be drafted , if we clear the decks which we are there is a good chance we will have some late picks but why isn't Patrick Farrant in our academy , Bunbury is our zone .

Yarran's drug issues are/were ******* hectic.

Has Jarrad Garlett been too bad this year to warrant a rookie spot?
And how close were we to recruiting him before he decided to go to Richmond.
Can you imagine the hysteria "Typical West Coast drug culture ruins another life"

Probably.

But reading the article was pretty sad. Especially the part where he talked about injecting it.

says we get pick 8.
Pick 8 is a Sheed, Shep, Duggan type - or a Masten etc.

But a proven performed with some experience at pick 8 is possibly a better option.

Just depends on luck etc.

I can not trust our recruiters to get either option right
Sheed and Duggan were 11 and Masten a pick 3 in one of the worst draft pool almost ever.

As you hinted you cant judge what you can get at a pick 9 as look at all the guns picked after pick 10. Hird, Mitchell, Cox, both McGoverns....the list would be a long one.

As you aaid its up to the list guys to get it right........but will they?

Not Yeo.....taller....Bontempelli hieght, speed and agility. Why we havent tried him as a mid is a good question. Same hieght as Bont and P Cripps and would definately be a point of difference in our midget midfield.

He doesn't have a murderous desire to win the hard ball and basically all inside mids he'd play against do.

Athletically he's perfect but this isn't a track meet.

Lamb is soft as butter when it comes to the contested stuff that's why

Huh?

Yeo 190cm
Redden 190cm
Priddis 185cm
Sheed 185cm

Only two mids under six foot and that's Mitchell and Gaff.

Regardless of his size, this kid has a serious dip. Goes at the ball hard, goes when its his turn and has good ball winning ability.
We have plenty of players that have a serious dip and go at the ball hard. What we don't have is a Selwood, Danger, Josh Kennedy, Fyfe, Sloane, Bont, Martin etc who will drag the team over the line. All of the stand out midfielders are larger than average

Preferably one that can also take an overhead contested mark too!

A small midfielder?
Have you seen him play? I have seen him in a few games (live and TV) and he would be a good pick. He is not an inside bull like P Cripps but would complement Shuey very well, plus he goes forward and kicks goals. Clean feet and hands, goes in and can extract from stoppages often getting separation. A lot to like about Higgins.

Haven't seen him play but from all the reports he is exactly what we need. Tall mids are not the be all end all but mids that are tough and have the footy smarts........and kick goals.

100% Agree we are lacking a superstar midfielder. Shuey at his best is probably our best midfielder but still nowhere near those you have listed

Higgins reminds me a lot of Caleb Daniel. Small, but goes in hard and has a good footy brain. Caleb hardly ever wastes a possession and I would 100% have him at the Eagles. Especially under the eye of the best footy brain in the business, Sam Mitchell.

I'd like to see us draft Fogarty, Higgins or Clark personally. But a lot will change between now and draft time. Hell, a lot will change on the day of the draft!

Is that a statement or a question?

I was not aware that we were even close to making a bid on him. I thought Richmond were early days into him and I have no idea whether we had any interest at all.
