The worry with Duggan is he was drafted for his leadership decision making and skill.

He has never been a big ball winner or that athletically gifted

And now his skills etc look a bit shaky aswell it's hard to see what he brings to the table at the moment.

Is he lacking confidence or has he regressed or is it a time thing ?

2014 draft is too early to call, I think so far every club is anxious over their selections (probably besides Melbourne ironically).

1. McCartin - looks good, but can't get on the park. Should be fine.
2. Petracca - Looks a gun, no worries.
3. Brayshaw - Not as good as Petracca, but looks a gun.
4. Pickett - looks average
5. De Goey - Dog ate his homework
6. Marchbank - injuries hurt him, too early to say, does look a smart kid, can't kick though.
7. Ahern - Injuries, done nothing
8. Peter Wright - Average tall bloke
9. Moore - F/S pick who's been hot and cold, probably OK.
10. Cockatoo - lot of hype over his flashy style, little substance so far.
11. Duggan - Looked good early, fallen away
12. Ellis - Few injuries, hasn't been great.
13. Weller - Had some good games, and some poor ones. Looks good.
14. Lever - Genuine Gun
15. Garlett - career over.

Point being, a lot of these guys are still finding their feet, they're young, they're going to have ups and downs, but it's too early to call on most of them.
I'll continue to have faith in Duggan, he has some great upside and even if he just becomes a 18-24 possession player, as long as he uses each one well I'd take that.

Sheed is good, Venables may turn into something, the rest are average at best.
Yeo's not really a mid in my mind.
He played a tad midfield on the weekend and looked very good when in there as well. Doesn't always have to rotate in there but should at least rotate to to a wing at times. One thing i have noticed over time and was evident last week was that, Yeo is a pretty good clearance player and in a year without quality rucks he will actually come in handy when we need a boost to win the clearances. He looks to have got stronger and seem more powerful than ever as well. Could play a Brendan Goddard type role for us.

would take that from his as a fb flanker/wingmen as long as he uses his elite skills.

I think his production should improve. Been copping flack the last two weeks but the fact that he got 24 touches both weeks is promising, the more games we get into him, the beter the quality of his possessions should be.

I actually forgot about Cole and think he will become a good wingman. IIRC his output in the WAFL last year was reasonable and he has the skills to actually impact (unlike Partington at this stage). He seems relatively close to the 22 and I could see him getting games this year.

I guess the question is should we have taken Weller or Lever

We would have melted if we took Lever and probably surplus to needs even though he'll be a gun.

Weller would have added some pace across HF but I haven't seen him play enough to say

de Goey and Wright will be stars.

If he doesn't play 15+ games this year and perform. Should we entertain the idea of a trade?
We will get peanuts for him. Duggan has talent and potential to be a good player. It wouldn't hurt for him to spend time between AFL and seniors this year. There's areas of his game that still need development and playing wafl will help with that. Don't think he will be a definite starter but should get games this year and better than last year.

Poster on the Doggies board seemed to confirm the $700k an offer has come from Fremantle and not use. His 'inside word' was they offered him 5 years at $700K a year just before Xmas, Dogs are offering him 4 years at $400K.

From memory there was rumours late last year that Johannisen was looking at a move home so it does match the previous story.

Let the purple people pay overs and take a risk with a 5 year deal.

JJ is a running half back who gets plenty of it but can be suspect with his kicking at times. We have Francis Watson, Tom Cole, Rotham and Nelson as youngsters on top of Sheppard and Yeo who are not old.

Then again if Jetta is out of contract this year and Butler retires we have the $700k.

Wonder if we can swap Jetta for Sinclair?:(

Duggan has trade value don't think he doesn't. He was drafted as a young draftee, just short of 12 months younger than the oldest 18 year old. Richmond were all over him and so would plenty of other Vic teams.

Trading him now would be a mistake IMO.
