I like zaka but he is mentally weak and I feel he isn't the best fit for our club. He easily goes to shit when tagged and doesn't even look to be trying when he gets it.
Yeah my physio is a diehard Essendon supporter and admits that Zaharakis will always be a third or fourth midfielder and goes to water if he's given too much responsibility.

Now that Merrett and Heppell are absorbing the attention, Zaharakis is able to play with more freedom and has performed better.

He won't have that luxury at WC though. We really can't afford to bring in anymore support players. Need to develop our own midfield leader/s because we aren't going to be able to just buy one off the shelf

I think he, more than anyone, would have struggled with all the drugs stuff and dealing with last season and the "cheats" returning and Merret leapfrogging him. He should have left the club 2 seasons ago, he really needs a change of scenery now. He definitely wouldn't be tagged here. Again, depends on price. I trade EMac or Schoey for him.
Why don't you think he would be tagged here? He's proven that he will become completely invisible when tagged.

Geez thats a bet each way.

So what is the answer. And please make it realistic.

We need to improve our midfield before Kennedy and others are too old.

We need to use low picks on top kids in the draft.

So that leaves purchasing players as free agents. So who?
We have to get one of these midfield guns.
Dusty or Kelly plus Gov jnr.

No more guys in their late 20s with questionable disposal, injuries or pea hearts.
So no Rocky, Menzel, CEY, Motlop (lol) types.

He'd be 3rd - 4th mid here behind Shuey, Sheed and Gaff, more on the level as Redden. I see him being a mid/HFF/Wing, so I doubt teams would tag him ahead of Gaff and Shuey.

I reckon Gov jnr will re-sign with Adelaide, which I'm ok with because we've got plenty of 3rd tall type guys already and I'd rather spend the money on the midfield.

So what do you think the club do with 2-3 million on cap space?

That is literally the million dollar question that posters who don't want to bring in free agents continue to ignor.

We must spend 95 percent so do we just start paying players more than they are worth?

Sure Kelly is a stretch but the likes of Rockliff and Gov Jrn are not.
I'm happy with Gov jnr but Rocky would want to be cheap. He only plays 15 games a year.

Still think we need to spend big. Big name. Big dollars.

Gone up to about $12.5million I think.
Edit: $12.45m this year (which we have to spend somehow, am hopeful we'll be able to include Priddis and Giles' buyouts in this years cap.)
Next year is about $12.6m.

No way a team can afford to give 12% of the salary cap to 1 player. Quarter Backs in the NFL get that stuff anf they are central to a team. I doubt GAJ in his prime would be worth 12%. Maybe GOD himself in his prime...

Fyfe's new contract is about 10% I think. Dusty will probably get close to 1.5mil.

Yeah, Fyfe is the franchise, so while it'll hurt, he's proven to be the best in the comp and getting back there. Dusty is in that stratosphere too. Kelly has the potential to get there. If he really wants $1.5m, it might be better to throw $600-700k at Hopper and Kennedy.

lol let Freo pay 800k for M Gov... If they want J Gov they will have pay him at least 1.2 mil surely haha

This in turn will annoy all their up and comers.
Mate, I would love to see young Jez copping a serve from Shooter every time they play, he never misses the opportunity!

TBH Freo dont really have many players they would be paying much. Once Sandi and Mundy go its only Fyfe, Walters and Neale that will command a bit of money. All of their youth are unknowns atm and half dont even look like makng it. 800k is a lot of money for Gov though. That's what Naita is on.

Yeah guys let's just draft another Hodge...

There's always a bit of luck involved at the draft. We know that the club values positive characters, and they will draft best available with this in mind.

If you're going to be a smart ar#e at least make sure you're not missing the point.

I'm not suggesting there's a Luke Hodge in every draft. I'm suggesting that we should be prioritising qualities like his commitment and leadership when we draft. Those qualities are sadly lacking. If we had them, I'm sure we'd see a lot more desperation being shown a lot more regularly.

The article is about his leadership and how it shaped their culture and influenced the development of younger players. It barely touches on his skills as a footballer.

Try to keep up.

Heard a week ago the Jeremy McGovern is pissed off with West Coast at the moment - related to Priddis retiring but not solely that, apparently told his brother not to come. Today's news indicates this may be true, and we are some risk of losing Jeremy to Freo.

If true - and it's a big if - then don't let the door hit you on the way out Jez.

But I doubt it. Why would anybody be pissed off with Priddis retiring?

LOL a hackdorn story which he has dialled right back.

M gov is looking more and more likely to stay at the Crows. J Gov probably told him its not worth playing in a rabble team like Freo where their forward line is just not up to scratch. That and the fact they know WC wont cough up 800k for M Gov...

Heard it from within Freo, so yeah not the most impeccable source, but probably more clued in than Hagdorn

Mc Gov isn't a forward and isn't effective in the ruck. He is a brilliant intercept mark in defence but not great one on one and can be easily countered by a smart mid field. In general play he is slow to assess situations and doesn't offer a spring board.

Sad to lose him but certainly not the end of the world . Thu hiss trade value would be higher than his playing value to us thanks for Fox.

Not even Jeremy could save Fremantle at the moment , Jeremy last year did a radio segment and Pridda was at times used as a talking point especially how he washed his hair everyday ......
The players rate Pridda pretty high and know how he has put his body on the line so many times , teammates love that type of player .
