That doesn't mean that would get close to being accepted though. If you don't think he is worth it that's fair enough, but that would be the asking price at a minimum.
Depends on why he is leaving and what Geelong need . If they need cap space then maybe they would trade for less .

No chance of getting Duncan; Geelong would (rightfully) demand a minimum of our 1st pick in exchange.

Can see Schofield going there for a 3rd rounder however.

Cupboard is pretty bare for potential trade targets really. Looks a good opportunity to gain some additional 2nd or 3rd rounders from offloading fringe players and maximise the draft.

Considering free agency in 2018, Neville Jetta and Tom Nicholls would both be handy additions to the squad that should not cost too much and be worth targeting.

I swear Duncan's name comes up every year. Yet, he keeps signing extensions at the Cats. What's changed? I bet nothing has and this is all rumour and inyourendo..

The difference this year is he still has a contract for next year

and schofield considering Taylor (31) lonergan (33) and Mackie (33) are at an end

If trading Duncan got them schofield , pick toward GAJ , and cap room for motlop ?
'Cap room for Motlop' - apologies, have I completely misinterpreted this?

Why would they be saving up money for a guy they could well be getting rid of? Was awful last night.

From what I have heard motlop has put off talks with Geelong until the end of the year not the other way round .
Just like jetta , motlop only thrives when they win the contested ball . Richmond smashed them

cap space for GAJ maybe ?

Geelong are a bit like us need to do something whilst a few guys are young enough .

I don't really want anyone else's rubbish like Motlop. For me it's either sell the farm for Josh Kelly or go to the draft. Wilson would be nice but he's a hbf and not what we really need. Too risky giving away draft picks then trying to turn him into something he's not. If we can't get Kelly then try and get some more picks in the second round and aim for T Kelly and L Ryan. We will need ready to go players next year with all the retirements/delistings. Of everyone leaving next year I was hoping Petrie would stick around at least as back up for Kennedy if he gets injured

For outside run hieght and size doesn't matter as much but on the inside and with contested play it helps a lot. Bigger more powerful mids can stick tackles and break tackles. They can stand upright, free the arms and handball. They can also outmark shorter, smaller players and create mismatches up forward.

Eagles midfield is too small and not strong enough body wise. We have no imposing mids whatsoever.
Still plenty of smaller guys (by AFL standard) that have been able to win clearances and stick tackles.
The shorter guy can still out mark the bigger player if they're able to read the play quicker and get into the right position.
The shorter player would more than likely be more nimble at ground level creating a mismatch that way.
Kerr was pretty good at fighting through a tackle from memory.

I still think height is overrated for non KPP.
Talent over size every time.

Thinking about it, this is what I really love about our game.
Unlike a lot of other sports, be you tall or short, lean or powerful. A role is available for all.

**** I love our game!!!

This is akin to we want footballers not athletes. We want both in players.

all thinks being equal a good big player will beat a good small player.

Woodhouse suffered from small man syndrome and this reflected in our drafting of that period.

While I agree with you I think you need balance and our outside runners are almost exclusively soft and short. Our midfield in general is very poor overhead. Take yeo out of the midfield rotations and our midfield's marking prowess is easily the worst in the league for my mind. I am also firmly of the belief that ability overhead is a key skill for wingmen and makes a big difference in finals.

He is contracted though and we have no leverage. Even if he was uncontracted a first rounder would be the price.

I don't think salary cap would be a strong enough reason to accept a deal like that - it would be madness on their part if they did.

Devon Smith , Garry Ablett , Jacob Hopper all being linked to Geelong in the off season ,.....might be the reason Duncan may move home , Geelong will want picks for there new recruits .

Geelong need them all. Too reliant on Danger and Selwood.

I'd take Duncan if he didn't cost too much. Would make us bette as a ready made mid who doesn't shirk the contest

That's not a reflection of how good he is, it's a reflection of how good Geelongs midfield is (acknowledged they were pretty horrendous today). Selwood and Danger are better than any of our mods. And he's hardly a 4th or 5th mid, he's quite easily Geelogs 3rd best mid
I take umbrage at that comment. Fivey has been outstanding for years.....
