So what are the thoughts for delistings?

4 positions free so far. Petrie, Mitchell, Priddis and Butler.

Mackenzie has returned to a form that should get another 2 years
Hill looks so deep that he must be out come year end.
LeCras wanting 2 years will likely take the 1 year on offer.
Lamb still possible to stay despite being interested in Dunsborough.
Wellingham is looking depth but has few options so may take a low 1 year deal
Master lining up a move east though still in contract
Tunbridge is out - not a matter of talent but he just cannot stay fit
Gorter is not up to AFL but may just benefit from a larger than normal clear out
Snadden looks like he has improved enough to warrant a rookie spot
McInnes may well stay just for depth since question our tall stocks are low/returning from serious injury and not played in a year

Prediction
Delist/Retire - Hill Tunbridge Gorter
Elevate from rookie - none
Demote to rookie - Lamb Wellingham
Trade out - Masten
Extend - Mackenzie Wellingham LeCras

Go hard at the draft - look at Tim Kelly and Bailey Banfield as older recruits
See if Dureah or Rockcliff are possible FA
Shop Masten Schofield at trade time - 2 third rounders would be fine
See if Acres attainable at reasonable price and it may mean a Gaff out with one of Saints top 10 picks

We will want at least 5 to 6 picks in next years draft so we can afford a couple of 1 year Weller LeCras deals. Above would see 8 out which is substantial

Gee "Asterix" I think that you are undervaluing Schofield. I would have thought that he was worth a second round pick.

Really?
I would have thought Geelongs third round pick (currently 51) would be right around the mark.
For mine, if we got a 2nd rounder for him, I'll be stoked.

29 next year and a reasonable role player but that's all.
Looks to be a really top bloke though.

Cuningham staying with the blues for another 2. Slim pickings this trade period, save our money and hit the draft

Matera is off to Freo apparently

We got Vardy for pick 72. Yes he had injury issues but Geelong's third will be around 52 which feels decent.

Let's be honest with it - Schofield is not in our best 22. I would prefer playing Yeo as the third tall than bringing in Schofield.

He was apparently pushed out after signing an extension when his form dropped

so what? it was warranted. what you enjoy our midfield being led by players slower than shaun mcmanus or cant dispose as well as shaun mcmanus.

his time had come. thanks for everything but we have to move on

51 for Schofield would be about right.

Cats though have bigger fish to fry and will need those picks. They also have an aging list and need some kids on to of GAJ and a Devon Smith.

It may happen though with Lonergren and Mackie both retired.

Very slim pickings for trades this year.

And only Rockliff is worth taking from the free agents.

We should either do nothing at the trade table, or look to offload some players to bolster our draft position.

How do we save our money when you need to spend 95%of the cap and have expensive players retiring or getting paid less?
Kangaroos had enough to offer both Martin and Kelly over 1 million a season, there has to be a way. At this stage it looks like there's stuff all decent trade/FA players available

I couldn't care less that priddis has been pushed out the door, I'm saying that the same should have been done to Lecca

Agree he was shown the future and the picture was not a pretty one hence the push out.

I understand he had a clause in his contract based on number of games played in 2017 and once he triggered that clause, it was an automatic extension. It makes more sense than extend then retire.

Very simple - you move some money forward. It is pretty simple with the tax year not fully aligned with the football salary year.

Example: I go to Shuey next year and say: - can we pay you $150,000 of the 2019 salary from March to June (tax year 2018/19) in September 2018 (tax year 2018/19). No tax implications. Move $150k into 2018 and free up space in 2019. Pick you leadership team and each move forward the amounts and you have more for a target in 2019.

The changes are really simple when you main leaders and higher salary players see what the club is doing and buy into it. They are not disadvantaged financially at all, in fact they get the money in their account 6 to 9 months earlier.

Therefore while we have the capacity, I would like to think we spend 100% of our cap even if it means we have forward paid some of it.

Then I want Alex Fasolo. We're already playing midfielders off HFF when they don't have the skill set, so we're clearly short of one small-medium forward - and when LeCras retires we'll be two short. Rioli fills one spot, but we need another.

Falso would be a good Cripps replacement.

Go in with this forward line:

Waterman Darling Mid
Fasolo JK Rioli

Cripps: Depth

Fasolo would replace LeCras, Cripps offers defensive pressure which is something Fasolo is terrible at.
