He'd have more to do at Westcoast defensively.
I'm not sure he would. All of Hurn, McGovern, Barrass, and Butler rarely push forward and overlap the mids. JJ pushes up a tonne more than Sheppard, maybe he backs himself to run the other way. Butler's the guy I could see making way, with Jax pushing into the midfield rotations like others have said.

Agree with that. We could afford to have Lamb at FF if we had NicNat palming to the likes of Shuey and Venables streaming out of the centre.

Hey - maybe worth a go. Not the NicNat bit but Lamb given a go in the forward line (Drew at FF and Lamb as 3rd tall)
Lamb may end up being a great player at AFL level - he just needs to be given an opportunity. Sure he looked like a crab last year but we can all see he's turned a corner in his development. I reckon youre spot on with Petrie, Darling and Lamb as our FWD targets this weekend.

NicNat tapping to Shuey would be a sight for sore eyes. Especially after the contests in the middle on the weekend. I was exasperated by the end of the game at the amount of times that Vardy would win a tap only for it to be gobbled up by the Giants as if he was tapping it straight to them! They anticipated and positioned far better than we did. We were very slow and lethargic compared to their dash, spread and link play.

Re: JJ, would love his speed across half back but have some serious concerns about his disposal. Don't want him especially if it takes $800k pa to get him across.

Other players we are into:
Mitch McGovern

Paul Puopolo

Tom Rockliff

Brandon Matera

- I'd be happy with this at the right price, especially if we lose Lecca

Mitch Duncan

- Yes please, prob my favourite target for us so far.

Nathan Wilson

- Went alright against us on the weekend but don't know enough about him...

Other news (had a quick look in this thread and couldn't see a lot of it here:

- Would be a free agent so would get nothing for him

- Too old too slow but is from WA and we've been linked to him forever

- Could be a good replacement for someone we may need to lose to get McGovern etc, we were reportedly interested last year.
On a side note, not too sure who '@AFLtradetalk' is but they were on the money around several trades last year so I've been following them since.

Their strategy seems to be "throw enough shit against the wall and some of it will stick". Basically just name a bucketload of WA players and say we're into them.

For example Duncan signed a three-year deal in February, in April they tweeted that we're chasing him. That'd seem to be an exercise in futility.

Mitch McGovern - good target for potential Kennedy replacement in a year or two
Paul Puopolo - 30 this year, pass
Tom Rockliff - pass
Brandon Matera - if he comes cheap, sure. If he's another 'hey let's trade our first round pick for magic beans', no.
Mitch Duncan - recently re-signed, dismiss
Nathan Wilson - good target, again we need to stop paying overs for players

I agree, still an interesting point of discussion though.

Yeah we are not getting Duncan. Rockliff would be silly to come here after Redden has busted like he has.

That would be a very good result imo.
Trade Mackenzie or schofield Whichever nets us more for a 2nd/3rd rounder and we would be adding.

A readymade AFL level crumber
A good quality AFL forward with upside who could cover for JK in a few years time until we find a true FF
A first rounder (pray we nail it)
A fourth rounder
Late pick for our Uneeded and aging KPD depth.

Mckenzie. Guy is on 800k a year. That's a chunk of change to be freed up. Schoey would be on half that, maybe less.

Yeah, no he's not. That'd make him the second highest paid player at the club and one of the top dozen or so in the league.

Mackenzie is a free agent, there is no need for another club to trade for him. Will not be on the 600k he is on this year with a new contract. Letting him walk to another club will probably result in fairly limited return.

Speaking of which, Hagdorn has mentioned 2 days straight that JD is on 800k and is the 3rd highest paid Eagle. I can only presume Naitanui and Kennedy are the higher two.

In the past I've opposed the idea of players salaries being disclosed because it's really an invasion of privacy. But I'm starting to rethink that as I doubt they actually receive the inflated figures that get reported in the press

That AFLTradeTalk twitter page gives me the impression somewhat that it's a bored kid controlling it.

If Darling is the 3rd highest paid Eagle then something is clearly wrong. NN, JK, Shuey, Gov and Gaff (in that order) should all be paid higher than Darling. One could make a case for Priddis too.

Suggests there's only 12 players in the league on $800,000 or more, including NicNat who's one of six on seven-figures.

95 players on $500k-plus, i.e. five or six at each club.

If Darling is on $800K and he's only our third highest then we're going to be seriously struggling to fit everyone else in.

Long story short, Hagdorn is just making it up.

So looking at draft and trade, I thought I would put together what our probable best 22 is for players 25 years old or younger.

That will give you an indication as to where we will be in 3 - 5 years time (assuming all stay etc).

As well as the usual midfielder requirement, I see the need for a KPF, KPD, Ruckman.
Good news - these next 2 years will offer us plenty of choice.
Lucky our team has been able to nail their picks so well of late.

People often talk about MacKenzie's large pay packet and I think it comes from this 2016 article:

Three players last season earned between $600,000 and $700,000 without playing a senior game, with injured trio Tom Liberatore, Eric Mackenzie (both ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments) and Jaeger O'Meara (ruptured patella tendon) believed to be the players involved.
