Saints said today they'll keep going for Gaff and Sloane. I reckon Gaff is gone. Too much chatter for nothing to eventuate.

The optimist in me hopes that because we shut down any potential Gaff trade pretty quickly, we must be confident he'll sign a contract extension soon. Otherwise surely we would have been tempted by the Saints' early first-rounders, especially considering free agent compo picks are a lottery

Next years draft looks to be the best in a long time top 20 next year,
would be close to top ten this year. \the depth next year looks amazing
Iam a very big fan of andrew brayshaw but giving away a first rounder in next year superdraft is crazy.
Hunter Clarke would be a very good pick up for us at 13 and should be there for that pick

Herald Sun suggesting it’s the 3 2nd Rounders for pick 13 and either pick 32 or 50. Would explain why our 3rd wasn’t used today.
I'd swap 13 for three picks in the 20s. I wouldn't if it meant we also added another pick.

Fully agree.

If the sweetener is 9 for the future 2nd round next year, I would be pretty happy.

Although it would mean that we would need to trade to get back into next years stronger draft.

Rawlings doesn't strike me as being a fool. The deal will need to be in our favour and they know it just as much as we do.

What is going on.

it's just maths

We are super keen on Brayshaw that may be our target and at # 9 he is very much there about's.

Starcevich is not worth a pick in the 20's. He is late third rounder at best more likely a fourth rounder.

Brayshaw or Higgins?

If we do this deal we obviously feel the player we want won't be there at 13. Which riles out Hunter Clark.:(

I just hope somehow we keep our first in 2018.......somehow! Or is next year so deep you still have quality to choose from in the 2nd round?

Possibly due to the depth of talent in 2018 the difference between a 1st and a 2nd isn't as huge as it is this year? That would make sense and I have read that they have ranked about 35 players next year who would make the top 25 this year.

Article says it's swap of future picks, so at the very least we'd be getting their 2018 2nd back if we give up our 2018 first.

But it could be anything, swap of our 2018 2nd for their 3rd, or a swap of 2018 firsts and they back themselves to finish above us.

Ive been saying shopping our 2018 picks is a good idea if we back ourselves to do ok. They will be overvalued with the whole comp thinking we'll slide.

Makes the last couple of days interesting at least

It could be our first for their 4th.

IMO in that order if they are the two choices.

I am not saying its him but I have heard that Clark has come further up a lot of boards in the last month due to his could finish to the season and ALSO due to several of the mid first round projected tall's sliding back 4-6 spots on a lot of boards. But the make up of several draft boards has altered not in names for best 25 but the order has changed a fair bit after the first five picks.

I just hope somehow we keep our first in 2018.......somehow!

Agree with that line of thought also.

Not sure whats going on behind the scenes at the moment and todays speculation of picks , swaps and trades , is all over the place.
I have made some calls and waiting of some replies to some of my mates on the East Coast to see what they have heard.

Something is clearly being formulated and we are into it deep, now it remains to be seen if anything comes to fruition or its all just speculation.

What you are saying works both ways. If 2018 is so good and deep you dont necessarily need a top 10 pick in 2018 to land a gun but this year in 2017 you definately need a top 10 pick to land a gun.

That's just being moronically stupid. Would you trade 1 for 2 + 3. If the top was even you would. Would you trade 1 if the #1 pick was a standout stud, head and shoulders better than the rest. No way.

Hypothetical, 2007, Carlton give us pick one instead of 3. We we're going to take Cotchin. Would we trade that for 4 of Kreuzer, Masten, Morton, Grant, Meyers and Palmer? Lol.
So the fact is, at a certain threshold, having more picks > having a higher pick.
The point system is a DECENT method of working out that threshold.

Jay Clark says its 9, 25, 28, 30 for 13 and 2018 1st rounder.

That is more equitable.

Im not keen on trading next years pick, but that is less bad than some of the other suggestions.
Absolutely love it, providing we don't finish bottom 4, that's a massive, massive haul.
