I want tangible progress and I am hoping that some of that happens tomorrow with swaps of picks.

Question. Will you be satisfied if we trade in one fringe player and simply take the draft picks we have to the draft?

Is that proactive enough in your opinion?

To answer your question I would seriously look at what either our 2018 1st or 2nd picks could net us this year in additional picks and pick upgrades. That is something I have posted several times. It seems that is what we are negotiating for and negotiating hard on.

Again I hope we do take a risk and make a call or two that brings in better talent this year.
I don't think you really know just how proactive football clubs are. Not everything is in the media. From what we do know, We tried going for motlop, We are involved in a potential deal that could see us gaining a few interesting selections in the draft and we gained a big bodied mid for cheap albeit with unknown potential. In a quiet trade period for all clubs you can't expect us to just land a Superstar out of our arse. That's completely unreasonable.

Forget bringing people in, lets just get rid of some spuds.

Big spuds, small spuds, everything must go.

Dont necessarily need "top picks" to rejuvinate a list if you can identify talent and potential properly.

Take Ellis Yolman for example..

Our list is not as bad as what it is made to look.
Shuey future captain.
More time for Yeo in the midfield.
Improvement from Sheed, Redden, Duggan, Nelson, Cole.
More development in Venables, rioli, partitington, mutimer, Karpany. Last three have shown ability at Afl level.
I'm looking forward to 2018, with tempered expectations.

Where did I say I expect to land a Superstar out of anyones arse?

Please quote me?

What I am saying is results to date right now are underwelming and I hope we negotiate some pick upgrades by taking some risk with future picks.

1) Do you think WC are that far off that requires selling the 2018 farm for?
2) Lots happening with Weller now Gibbs - Stringer Shache still to be done. Trying to keep up with the happenings is like trying to herd cats

Trade fortnight should be trade mon- wed far less tiring.

Your strong opinion implies that you want us to make huge changes to our list to challenge the flag. The only way you can make changes is by recruiting high profile players. Players that ain't available or desire coming here.

Add Waterman to the list.

Are we all done?

Or % chance we get a pick swap done tomorrow?

Hi Bond, could you tell us anything about the stringer trade involving the Eagles? Particularly this future pick swap fiasco that has us all so intrigued??

If we end up with only 5 changes to the main list people need to be sacked............simply as that. Either they don't have the balls or the brains to manage the list. It has been widely acknowledged both internally and externally that our list needs an overhaul, 5 or 6 changes is not an overhaul that is simply average list turnover.

We will just need to wait and see won't we!
The problem with cutting deep isn't just having to draft with very late picks, it's that you also have a lot of kids with no experience on the list. Add to Venables, Watson, Rioli, Rotham and Waterman who we hope all get debuts in 2018, and how do we get games into 10-12 kids without completely decimating our best 22?

Yep. We have more spuds on our list still than the spud shed.

Surprised Masten and Hill are still on our list.

Hi Bond.

Are we that far off? Well after Richmond winning the flag this year Id say 13 teams are contending next year and we are one of them. Will take a lot of hard work and and element of luck.

As to selling the farm by trading future picks I am not suggesting that at all. Next years draft is intriguing as it is reportedly deep with quality. This years draft is not as deep and as I recall you alluded that we may miss out on our preferred choice with 13 but would be gettable with pick 9.

By upgrading in 2017 to pick 9 by downdrading in 2018 which is a deeper draft will the net effect over two years be better or worse?

Would say swapping a 2018 2nd round pick for a 2017 2nd plus also getting a 2018 3rd be selling the farm?

I recall the club saying it wanted more top 50 picks in 2017 thqn it currently has. So if that is the goal how does it happen and will it?

Then we should cut further imo. Trade out players that might not be here when the next tilt happens. If we want a go while JJK is still around then imo should have looked at the free agents. Been listening to the player managers on trade radio we havent been in the game for any of them. Else we make some hard calls and get some picks in.
disagree.
1. we'll actually get some team defence from two extra mids this season now we don't have Mitchell and Priddis
2. If we draft ready made mature age players like Tim Kelly that could really add something
3. Stop playing three key position defenders and go small like in 15 (goodbye Mackenzie)
4. have some small forwards that provide goals and pressure (goodbye LeCras)
5. Get back NicNat
6. Profit.
7 Win flag

Your assumption is incorrect.

My strong opinion is that if you cant attract quality you need to draft quality and to do that you need good picks and or gun late selections.

How do get better draft picks?

Tanking! Well thats not what we do and Im more than comfortable with that.

Trading out quality players. Well we dont push players out which again Im comfotable with and we have been fortunate that our good players are happy to stay.

So whats left? Swapping future picks. Something we have never done. Maybe we should explore this option then.

Don't know if anyone else noticed but Barrass has beefed up quite a bit this year, one commentator suggested he was 83 kg when he arrived and is now 103 kg , I think he might have beefed up a bit too much ,he seems to have lost a yard of pace and I noticed a few of the big boys he played on this year seemed to get away from him

I thought you mentioned using WC's 1st & 2nd round picks next yr as a trade for upgrading picks this year. My mistake if I interpreted you wrong.
Clubs say a lot of things - its like fishing - the more lines you have out the better the chances

Probably agree there, I think he could cut 5kg and still be a beast physically while gaining a bit more agility and speed back.

which 10 to 12 kids do you think we will be debuting next year? Best case scenario based on the last few years I can see is Venables, Rioli, Watson, Waterman, 2017 1st round pick and potentially someone like Kelly who isn't really a kid. 6 players is probably the ideal number of debutants, with hopefully around 4 cementing a best 22 spot without "going too far the other way."

aren't most Key position players around that anyway. IMO he is top heavy needs to get stronger at the core and legs and work on his general match fitness. Fullbacks generally spend close to the whole game on ground and are able to run it out. He just needs to do that.
