So we have 4 spots free right now, will be 5 when Hill is delisted as expected. Will draft at least 5 players. Can we still use our 4th round pick (6th overall) even if we only have 5 spots available, and delist players as required after the draft? If so, we could wait to make a decision on Lamb or Wellingham until then in case anyone of interest is still available at that pick.

No all good now thanks swannies , surgery went well, but arm still in a *&@^%@ sling :persevere: for another three weeks, almost off the painkillers.
Spending way to much time at the Physio .... but she is super cute , great sporty fit body, strong hands easy on the eye, so thats a nice bonus..... better medicine for the soul than painkillers. :grinning:

Not back working so hence the fixation with BF at the moment the trade period was a great replacement for boredom.

Ah Chee won F&B for SF in his SF colts year ...Kelly would have been in the same team so really we would be overpaying for Kelly in this draft when compared to AhChee in there Colts year . Just looking at all angles and this one shouts alarm bells but pick 30 odd is probably neccessary in this market demand situation .

Hopefully we nail these second round picks and don't take any stupid selections like Notte or Weedon.

I can see it now though come draft day, "we got a bargain with Pick 21 so we took a risk with Picks 26 and 32... blah, blah, blah."

Very excited with 5 picks in the first 37 though. Good effort.

Is it just me or did Freo give away their 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounder in a stronger draft?

I think you are correct.

They came out a mile in front on the Weller trade. Did pretty well for Wilson. I personally think a 3rd rounder next year might be overpaying for Matera who I don’t rate.

Winning trade week (something they have apparently done the last 2 years) doesn’t mean you win in the regular season and make the finals. Have to wait for the draft and few years to see who really did well this week.

Predictive draft for us, not what I necessarily want:

#13: Lochie O'Brien (184cm MID)
#21: Sam Hayes (203cm RUCK)
#26: Jackson Ross (192cm FWD)
#32: Lachlan Fogarty (179cm MID)
#37: Jake Patmore (182cm MID)

In an ideal world, I'd say maybe Clark over O'Brien and I'd have liked Garner, Allen and Kelly in there somewhere.

Didn't like the trade at first because on principle I don't like the idea of trading down first rounders. I have warmed to it though, especially the concept of trading a future pick, it means we are backing ourselves in next year, meaning it will be a low pick, something successful organisations and teams should do.

A bad trade period to be Sharrod Wellingham/Tom Lamb it is looking like.

If WCE slide next year and the first rounder ends up being a valuable pick - heads need to roll. Simpson and the head recruiter will need to go.

You live and die by the sword.

You've just seen the "new" WC with regards their approach to post season. Reckon it might translate into a similar approach come draft day

Can we ask what has brought on this new approach?

Rawlings as the new list manager?

The club admitting that the 'top up era' didn't work or time has run out for top ups?

And what is likely to change on our approach to drafting?

I feel we need to draft players who ;

1) aren't slow or too small and;
2) who have more focus on contested ability.

Saying that a player with some physicality and a football brain are also good attributes.

I know there has been talk about Tom Kelly and Liam Ryan. I'm happy to invest a 32 or 37 on Kelly as he has ability to make an immediate impact and play several positions. I am sceptical on using anything more than 37 on Ryan as he lacks that flexibility and also lacks defensive traits.

What a thankless task eh ? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Looking at what we have done, makes perfect sense from how I read it . Feel free to be a Monday's expert , that's the easy cop out way. I applaud our strategy.

I hope not. If Carlton want to reach that high let them. Ah Chee is probably more chance of making it and we valued him at about pick 50.

Disagree strongly i would use pick 26 on Tim Kelly.
I think he's that value and stops Carlton using there pick 30 on him.
People don't realise how good his centre clearance work is.

Couldn’t agree more.

Is Tim Kelly actually that good? Never seen him play, what would be a realistic player comparison at afl level that we'd hope he'd be at if got him
Daniel Wells would be a good result I would say.

Seriously, does a week go by without you calling for Simmo's head?

I mean, it doesn't seem outwardly like he's had much of a role in this trade period. But don't let that knock you off your hobby horse.
