Not confident about what has hapenned here.

Our drafting record in last 5 - 10 years in terms of finding best available talent with every pick has been pretty ordinary. Not one of the worst in the league but nowhere one of the best either. Which is why we are not in flag contention.

And if you look at the history of the draft, it is not uncommon at all to look back at weak drafts in the past and not recognise a single name after the first round. Like every player or nearly every player drafted after the first round by all the collective clubs failed to have kind of significant career. And everybody says that this is a weak draft.

So we are really backing ourselves to pull a rabit out of the hat multiple times here despite a pretty poor recent record. So like i say, i am not confident that this is going to turn out well.
I've never said this is a weak draft. So not everybody.

Just listening to Ah Chee on 6pr. Impressive !
Seems an incredibly well-spoken young man. Can see why Port fans were fond of him. Also love how he seems excited to get involved with the community work just as much as the footy.

If WCE finish top 8 next year and GCS bottom 2 -then the heads of the super-overly, ridiculously negative posters on here need to roll and not let the Bigfooty door hit them on the way out.

You live and die by the sword.

Not trying to be negative. Just trying to think the pros and cons and work out whether what we are doing is playing the percentages or betting against them. It seems to me we are betting against them and without any compelling reason for doing so.

So before November 1 there will be a delisting or two probably sometime next week at the latest .

Lamb will stay and that is good
Wellingham very doubtful
Hill probably gone
Snadden probably retained
Gorter probably retained

If you have an alternative opinion explaining why you are so optimistic then feel free to state it. It's more constructive and interesting to read for other posters than just criticising other posters.

I have clearly stated my reasons for why i don't like it. I think the odds of getting somebody who turns out to be a 120 game plus player with picks in range of 25 to 40 in any draft are probably no better than 1 in 8 (Just a wild guess, not something i have statistically tested). Add to the mix that this is weaker than normal draft and our recent draft record is no better than average and i reckon the odds have probably blown out to 1 in 12 or worse with each of those picks.

So i have clearly stated my reasons for not liking it. What are your reasons for thinking it will have a positive outcome?

Well run organisations bet on themselves.

We've rolled the dice.

Lets not throw the toys out of the cot until, its clearer by final 2018.

If we fall in a heap, by all all means go to town.

Got to feel happier looking forward.

Rawlings goes on record to say we are aiming to strengthen our draft position - we do it and set the scene for fulfilling our 5 year problem. In my calculations we did not give up too much in the future drafts. In terms of stand out draftees from WA, I see Ian Hill as the only one at this stage that looks top 10 (long way to go yet) and it was most important for SA clubs to capture some local talent not WA.

We walk away from a draft that does not have the headline acts so did not push to get in earlier (there are usually no more than 3 to 5 players that would be in the Weitering category), a draft that offers little difference from 15 to 35 with 5 picks inside 37 needing midfielders and this is called a midfielder draft. I think the calibre of the picks at 16 to 20 are on a par with those at 25 to 30. What part of that does'n't make sense.

Sounds like Rawlings has taken control of the situation and pissed off Vozzo and Co. from the decision making. We need to listen to Mitchell as to what he thinks he will need to coach in the next 5 years! He has his coaching future at stake with this draft. I always like to see how a new leader copes when their gonads are in the vice.

So now time to sit back and work out options. I see the draft for us needing a couple of different paths depending on what is available at the critical picks of 13 and 21. The good news is that I doubt that Rohan O'Brien will have the stupidity to over-rule the team like he did with the Shaker. The main midfielders we are looking at are Vic boys so we should have good intelligence with our team knowing more about Vic talent. There are a couple of WA talls to consider in Naughton (if he slips through to 13 and no pointy end mids left), Allen (at 21 will be tempting depending if Bonar and or L Fogarty available) or even going a Taylor or Miller at 37. Some local mature age WAFL talent to consider and a playing list that has a major broom to it that should send messages to the downhill skiers that they have 12 months or they are out the door.

Mitchell is going to be a first year assistant. He has zero runs on the board in the coaching department and will not get to make the final call on anything. He will have his hands full learning the craft of coaching, which requires a totally different skill set from playing.

Giving up a first round pick, in a superdraft for a 2nd rounders in what has been described as a weak draft, is mind boggling.

What were they meant to do though go into 2018 with a very depleated midfield at least we can now maybe add a Ah Chee and Kelly to the mix and still have good chances at other young talent at # 13 plus # 21 # 32 # 37

You've gone into a vanilla draft - where the top end talent dips after the first 5 with picks in the 20-30 range hoping to land one.

It's unbelievably stupid.
