I'd be interested in picking up an under performing Goldstein. He'd provide us with probably 3-5 years of cover.

We could trade Lycett to Adelaide, who need a good second/younger ruck and perhaps get McGovern in a straight swap. Giving us plenty of time to draft a decent ruck replacement and strengthen our list for the time being.

Not going to fix any fundamental problem we have, but would be a nice bit of work.

Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy from GWS contracts expire at the end of the year.

Good chances to leave IMO but you would expect both to go to Melbourne clubs

No harm in enquiring but my mail is that Carlton are all over Hopper in a big way and he likes the idea of living in The Football Capital.
Kennedy likewise worth asking the question.

if Kelly leaves they might stay. Both are country NSW boys by memory so if we lay a solid foundation there's a decent chance we could lure them over.

That would make it 9 (?) from GWS since the double agent Silvagni "worked" there?

It's ****ing bullshit.

Very likely IMO that the AFL has had something to do with this indirect support for one of Melbourne's big clubs who can't seem to support themselves.

It has been pretty clear that Vozzo has had his fingers on the trades and list management. Why would we have any confidence that anything has changed?

Over the past 5 years, we have traded 2 first rounders for Redden and Wellers. Bad trading.

In List Management, we have let Ebert go home and picked up McInnes, let Koby go for effectively Colledge and For Scooter we got Mutimer.

Not sure the Ebert, Stevens and Scooter were ever favourites but they would have been pretty useful improving us in contested football.

It will be interesting to see how we go contracting Jackson Nelson and Venables. I would back us in with the likes of Partington and Allen (country SA so any club is away from home). Mutimer? Karpany? Guess it depends whether they get a run at senior level.

So you left out the trading down of pick 6 to pick 11 which we used on Sheed who we would have taken with 6 and got the second round pick we used to bring in Yeo - good trading

I don't think we "let" Ebert go home and the pick we got for Stevens was part of the deal to get Cripps which was another piece of good trading

Scooter we got pick 37 as compensation and we combined that with pick 36 to move up to pick 23 (used to draft Partington) so that had nothing to do with Mutimer

Normally I agree with your posts but I think you've cherry picked negatives and overlooked positives to make your point appear stronger than it really is

Nelson I think will stay, Venables I'm less certain and re-signing him should be a priority as the recruiting staff will deserve an absolute bollocking if he goes home at the end of his two years after they bypassed SPP. In fact O'Brien should start packing his bags instantly if DV says he wants a trade home

I agree with your point but I think the more accurate look at it is that we traded in a second rounder in order to draft Karpany. We wouldn't have rejected Yeo on the basis that we failed to get another second rounder.

It was a move I criticised at the time as I preferred Aish (who hasn't proven to be better than Sheed) and Acres (who was available either way) but it was still a plus overall as we got Karpany for free. It may end up being a waste if Karpany gets delisted but it was still reasonable business in hindsight.

Fair enough on some - yes I was looking at the negatives and did not comment on the positives. The 6 for 11 plus 31 in getting Sheed was a gutsy and good trade. So was getting Yeo. I also like the piece of work in getting us Mitchell and Vardy this year.

The Selwood compo was pretty much the number we ended up using on Mutimer who was pick 57 and the Selwood compo ended up about pick 54 after all the academy picks. I recall the response from our team with the Selwood compo was "Outrageous". That was pretty much in line with what people were saying we would have got. We could have also matched the Geelong offer and kept him.

Apart from Tunbridge who was discarded from GWS, we have failed to get a single WA player from GWS or the Suns! There have been a heap of WA boys taken by the expansion clubs yet no poaching!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you have rated the performance of our list management in the last 6 years? I would have them at 4. Certainly not a pass.

Not enticing anyone home from the expansion clubs is a bit of a worry.coniglio,Wilson and lobb should all have been high priorities and it would be interesting to know how much we threw at them

As Keys said, the Selwood compo was pick 37, immediately after our second round pick 36. They were bundled up and traded for the pick that became Partington.

The pick we took Mutimer with was our third rounder, it started out as pick 62 but came into 57 on account of academy picks and passes.

it
If the Cripps rumour are true we should be going very very hard to get him.

Sheed and Cripps for the next 8 years or so would be unbelievable !!
would need to add a few quick mids around them to compensate the lack of pace.
