Essentially that's 3 first rounders for one player... (including Duggan). It's a lot to give up, way too much imo.

Sorry, I wasn't so much commenting on the trade value being discussed, more just the general concept that I think he would be worth chasing and that we would need to give up a fair bit. I would give up two first rounders for him given they probably will be middling first rounders (and speculative in any event) but throwing in Duggan as well seems overkill and at this stage he may not add much to the trade on exposed form. Cripps is already a very good midfielder, young, if he came back to WA we would probably have him for the rest of his career (regardless of free agency), he has attitude on the field but doesn't seem to have baggage off it. Ticks the boxes of what we need in my view and would bring us back into the ball park of contending whilst we still have NN and Kennedy.

Matera is a better Jamie Cripps, and neither have showed any midfield ability unfortunately. The potential is there though , but is it worth wasting a spot on our list for a player that might be able to develop into a midfielder?

I don't think we could carry Cripps and Matera

Yeah. I don't necessarily want Matera to be a mid I was just more curious if he spent time on ball because his production is quite high this season, with a best of 29 disposals against the Blues.

If he's finding that much of the ball as a half forward that's already a trait we don't have. That being said I never really got the impression he was anything more than an 'okay' forward.

I'd be interested in picking up an under performing Goldstein. He'd provide us with probably 3-5 years of cover.

We could trade Lycett to Adelaide, who need a good second/younger ruck and perhaps get McGovern in a straight swap. Giving us plenty of time to draft a decent ruck replacement and strengthen our list for the time being.

Not going to fix any fundamental problem we have, but would be a nice bit of work.

What would Goldstein cost ?

If too much I would much prefer to keep Lycett and get Ben Brown who is out of contract this year as a Kennedy replacement ..

All things considered I'd give our overall list management a 6/10 - we've had a good list that was capable of making a GF in 2015 so the basic talent was there although it came with a soft under belly that hasn't responded well to pressure. It's been something of a steady as she goes approach that has leaned to the conservative and avoided taking risks

Vozzo and co have some genuinely difficult decisions to make in the back half of this season as our 2017 off season looms as a pivotal one for our future and conservative is likely to consign us to mediocrity

I don't think the decisions are too hard to make, the results are there for everyone to see. I just hope they re-assess where the list is now and come out of the bye ready to get some games into the younger guys. We still have a very good core of younger players, it's just LeCras, Priddis, Mitchell and Petrie who push our average way up and make us seem a bit older than we are.

Wait, why? Petrie is playing well and Lycett is back.

I'd play McInnes against Geelong if Kennedy isn't available. Think Lycett needs another week at East Perth.

Either that or Darling is going to be off on personal leave.

If it's mainly up front surely Lamb gets a gig ahead of McInnes. McInnes doesn't even get a goal a game at WAFL level.

I'd have him backing up Vardy and leave Petrie in the goalsquare.

Darling was at training today so not sure about the personal leave

Not the way I'd go, but I suppose I'm just some flog online and not one of the coaches of the best managed side in the AFL.

I'm just sort of working backwards. We desperately missed a big marking forward in JK's absence and Darling clearly wasn't the answer (I know he had extenuating circumstances). I think Petrie is the closest thing we've got to that, but he spent a heap of the game in the ruck, more than usual even.

So put him at FF and find someone else to back up Vardy, and McInnes is just about the only option there at the moment.

Sorry, i've taken this thread off topic. Bad mod. Bad bad mod!

I guess It depends where we finish and what duggan's worth is considered to be. I wouldn't really be happy to get rid of 3 premium chips even for Cripps. He would need to be wanting to go home too but maybe:

Duggan
WCE 2017 First
WCE 2018 First

For
Cripps
Carlton's 2018 Second

gives them a player replacement and 2 first round draft picks, but keeps us in the draft next year.

In retrospect, 2 firsts is overs for Cripps. As others have said, it's more then Carlton paid for Judd.

This would probably be a more realistic deal:

Trade:
WCE 2017 First
WCE 2017 Third
Liam Duggan

Receive:
Patrick Cripps
Carlton 2017 Second

JJ showing tonight why he isnt worth 800k
Would fit right in with how poor he was.
Absolutely useless after they scragged and bumped him a bit.
1 handball in the second, 2 kicks in the third, nothing in the last.
Someone posted in the dogs board that Essendon 7 & 24 for J.J..
Even at his best, that's overs.

This will effectively cost us 3 (Duggan was our round pick in 2014) first round picks - no single player (certainly not Cripps who is not quick and also poor by foot) is worth this much and moreover, instead of improving, this will ruin our future.
Duggan is certainly not a first round pick anymore... So it would be a first round pick and a downgrade to a second next year. Need to be realistic as to what carlton would want. Cripps projects as the best contested mid for the next ten years.
