This year would have been a better year for both Lycett and the team if he was fully fit and he preseason. unlike a vardy, the bloke is a genuine ruck and has played well when given the sole ruck duty. If he was fit, the possibility of him having a break out year would have been pretty high IMO and thus driven his price up.
I know Lycett has been injured a lot, but has he really impacted a game in the way Vardy did last night?
He has a lot of potential however. But one of them has to be depth you'd assume? Unless Vardy becomes JKs protégé..
Lycett is too good to be depth, he'll want game time, but he's also worth more on the trade table. Maybe something to reconsider at the end of next season

If anything. It's a good thing Vardy and the supporting ruck have been holding up their end of the bargain so far so we haven't felt the need to throw Lycett in underdone so we can get a few more extra games at East Perth and get some more touch back.

2015 he was brought in late in for NN against Hawks and i think he had just returned from injury or something like that and battled hale and mcavoy. He had a huge game collecting 20 touches, 17 contested possessions, 39 hitouts, 7 tackles and 7 clearances.
Even Last Year Lycett has had 1-2 quality games. Can remember he played well against Gawn and Luenberger.
Matera has good but not great value imo. Would show much much more that LeCras but not worth anything high.
I genuinely think that JJ would over a lot as a HB > MID rotation, get him in.
Gov Jnr is surplus to needs but I'd be hard if we had 2 Govs.

Personally i'd have matera higher due to him being a genuine live wire. Gov jr is a better player but like you said is surplus to our needs and will cost us too much.
I just feel like Matera isn't a true crumber and a crumber is what we need. Whilst Gov Jnr is also surplus our needs, he is just a better footballer and would cause a lot more problems for opposition defence than Matera.

Lycett's value is minimal sure, but he still has the rest of this season (likely starting next week) to show his wares and that should increase by years end.
Bottom line is that whoever it is will be playing 2nd fiddle to Nicnat, and personally i think Vardz is the obvious more natural FWD/Ruck we've been trying to find. We keep trying to turn #1 ruckman (Lycett, Giles) into forwards to pair with Nic and i don't think we've had any success.
Lycett is a quality player, but he's not a better #1 ruckman than Nicnat.
All that being said, i think at years end it will finally be time the club drafts a project ruckman with Petrie (retirement) and Giles (hopefully) moved on.

I think i'm starting to agree with Leigh Matthews thoughts on ruckman being completely overrated.
Unless they are a Nicnat who can deliver it precisely to his midfielder in any direction routinely or Gawn, it's just an overrated position and hitouts really aren't the be all and end all. Particularly if your midfield is shit.
Look at the way Vardz, who is playing his first season as a ruck mind you, got on top of Zac Smith completely. Along with Petrie (who's 34 and a total noob), he's basically broken even all year with teams who have a much better ruckman winning the hitouts. I mean Vardy and Petrie.... you'd think we'd be at the bottom of the ladder or something, and yet we're currently 6th and could be higher.
Stefan Martin isn't a ruckmans arseh*le, he still just competes and straight away peels off from his opponent the moment the contest is finished.
Melbourne beat Collingwood (and other teams throughout the season) last week without ANY recognized ruckman. Grundy got 50 odd hitouts but did the ferals win? No sir. Just a meh stat.

This is why I was ready to go toe to toe with Simmo if we drafted English with our first last year.

Whats the chances of making a big play for jack Martin you reckon. He's a real need i reckon, he's that small forward we are after that can also play taller and take a mark and push through the middle or down back. Just something we dont have. Also think he hasn't got anywhere near his potential and is at his cheapest at the moment.

Everyone is on about Rioli being our saviour. Massive jump from WAFL to AFL. Hope he makes it, but I have my doubts.

If he gets himself fit and manages to stay fit he'll be a very good player, certainly provides something that we haven't had in our forward line for 10 odd years.

To be fair, i actually see a massive upside with English.
It's everything else other than his rucking which would excite me if i was a dogs supporter. Endurance animal with exquisite skills and agility. Any idiot can run and jump into someone in the ruck contests, but there aren't that many talls like English around.
If they can work on his marking and contested stuff a bit more i reckon he'll be the benchmark in 5 years.
Still would have been spewing if we drafted him ahead of a midfielder though.
