Was a fan of getting JJ but his softness and his inability stand up during high pressure has put me off him. We have too many players like that and our players don't tend to stick up when players give one of our players shit.

I'm a bit vary of Mitch McGovern as well. There's some factors so far that have the possibility to make him look better than he is. He plays as the third tall in the best forward line in the comp and technically 4th in line forward when you add bets to in. He was also 22 years old when he broke into the scene in his first year. To me those factors could possibly make him look better than he is and at 191cm he is a third tall and more of a cherry on top player. Rather keep our first and build our midfield or key position stock.

Midfield. There are enough talls that will fall to our 2nd and 3rd round picks so I would go midfield with number 1 and not trade it.

As it stands, I would love Adam Cerra. Knightmare had him on power rankings at 14 so about right but if he keeps his current from I think he will be gone before our pick assuming we stay in the 8. It will be clearer after the next month but there is no clear No 1 draft pick like in prior years. Luke Davies-Uniacke is probably towards the top of most lists and then there is a bunch of names that have been touted and I think there will be sliders and smokies in the first round.

Charlie Spargo is another who I rate that will be at around our pick. A blue collar inside mid that gets the job done. Not slow either. He could easily start as a small forward and then once he gets his body right and his endurance, he would be good in the midfield.
Would be happy with Cerra. If we were to draft deep then I think we could afford to cut the list considering some of the quality available around the third round. Especially if we draft talent out of the WAFL. I don't know if Spargo is what we want, perhaps his size may count against him. But then again look at Caleb Daniel I suppose.

Jarrod Garlett has been home in WA for almost 18 months now (taken pick 15 in the 2014 draft).

Any word on if he's a player that might make our list?

Got dropped to the Souths reserves on the weekend...

Would you do that deal as Crows list manager and still think you would keep your job?

It is the equivalent of Allen and pick 42.

The deal he said was Pick 30 a 2nd Rd pick + Allen but you've made it seem terrible as a actual 3 rd rd pick ..

It equates at Pick 30 for Magovern and pick 52 to wce for Allen

I assume pick 42 is the equivalent of the difference in points between the two picks.

Even breaking it down your way, 30 is probably on the mark or slight unders for Mitts but 52 for Allen is massive overs. He was taken in the 60s and hasn't really gotten any more valuable in his two years on the list.

The difference in players taken at Pick 30 though and say Adel pick 35 could be a player they want or miss out on .
Allen at pick 52 gives them a replacement Project Fwd for Magovern which could be very tempting..

word for word : Pick 30 + (Allen or Karpany or Redden) for Gov Jr + Pick 52 (Adel third round)?

I read this as:
West Coast give our second rounder (say pick 30) plus one of Allen/Karpany/Redden
Adelaide give Gov jnr plus Adelaide's third rounder (say pick 52)

Given the response by Adelaide to Carlton on the Gibbs stalled deal when Silvani wanted Gov as part payment, they valued Gov jnr more like a late first rounder. I would see Adelaide possibly taking pick 30 plus one of Allen/Karpany/Redden and no change back.

Based on the last 2 years, you would not say that either of Allen/Karpany/Redden are really worth that much. None of these 3 are getting many games at the moment.

Happy to be wrong but that is how I read the deal.

Correct. What I was getting at is the fact that Gov is an in-between first/second round pick for my read of his value. As wisely pointed out, he is playing in a top team and is getting opportunities to shine that perhaps he would not be getting a team which may expose him more. I think a second rounder and someone like Allen would a reasonably fair trade, as they receive a tall to keep developing who is also an SA boy. My inclusion of a pick was to sweeten the deal slightly for us, but as you pointed out, that may be asking too much. If we pay our first we're not addressing a need so for mine the equation sees our second plus something being the only reasonable way for us (not for them obviously, they want a first).

I reckon Mitch McGovern is worth a first round pick. Quality tall's with the potential to reach AA status (and actually get there, not just be Jarrad Waite) don't come around often, and if his ceiling is anything like Jeremy's, we'd be in for a real treat.

Trade: 2017 First Round Pick
Receive: Mitch McGovern

I don't consider a player to be a tall at 191 cm.
If we were to spend our first round pick on a 191 cm medium forward, then I would prefer we spend the pick on Oscar Allen.

TBH I would pass on both with our first round pick.
I would not use our first rounder to trade or draft a third tall.

We need engine room contributors preferably player who have at least better than average leg speed.
I don't mind if they are an inside or outside mid ( preferable they can do both ).

But we need to address more important needs that a third tall at the moment.

Here's a few names that we could be interested in.all are out of contract I believe.
Mitch McGovern.would cost a bit,not a huge need but tempting
Nick Robertson would bring toughness and depth
Jesse glass mccluster.depends what happens with schoey and emac if they go then we need another developing kpd
Cory Gregson.small forward/mid
Sam menagola.mid,can get the ball
Brandon Matera. Fills a need
Matt shaw.has played some good footy
Steven may.plays either end
Coniglio.should be our first priority
Jack trengove.if fit still could offer something
Christian Salem.good player
Alex Neal bullen.hard at it mid
Kamdyn McIntosh..big mid/ defender
Oleg Markov.athletic player
Jack Lonnie,sml forward

Was keen for JJ but for the price he will cost it will be like a Wellingham situation where we pay to much for him where he will be a handy player and nothing more.
Exactly what I was going to post. For that exact reason I think our recruiting team will trade him in on big bucks.

I would be thrilled with Cerra also, but there is no way that he will get anywhere our first pick if we get in the eight.
Davis-Uniacke, Cerra, Raynor, O'Brien, Foggarty, hell I would love any one of those player to be available at our but I suspect they will all be long gone.

So Falco that means we are not going to get the perfect midfielder with our first pick, therefore we will need to decide should we take a Spargo, Worpel or Higgins type mid or do we just go best available ??????

Do we go speed in Petruccelle ..... This kid is an earth burner.... disappointed he played so much of yesterdays game against WA so deep in the backline.
I really only got to see him on the fly and working as a loose runner, as I really wanted to see how he was at using that blistering pace to work his way in and out and through traffic.

Lets not kid ourselves, JJ is an AA quality player with pace that would give us drive off the backline we don't have and help Yeo play more permanent midfield.
M Gov is one the better young medium fowards going around. Lecras is retiring soon or in need of retirement and other than JK and Darling we are very light on for avenues to goal. He would be a great get.

These are two players that would be best 18 and significantly improve our side tomorrow. The only thing is a first rounder is too much for either of them. I would love both of them we just need to make sure its at value with second round picks or equivalent.

Good to hear from you Monocle. I think we go for the best available inside/outside mid. Petruccelle excites me too. Speed and skills are things we could really use, its been refreshing to see Jetta finally showing us what he's capable of.

Like many I have concerns about our trend in previous years (Sheed and Venables are the exceptions) of picking players who are flankers which we hope could become mids. If we pick a blue chip mid with our first and then go for best available out of that (KPP priority) then I would be happy.

While I agree with the second part of your post.
I would suggest that neither another third tall or an attacking HBF are going to propel us into contenders with our current midfield needing reinforcements and needing them urgently.

Not having a crack at you specifically Patron but I am amused by the preoccupation with throwing money and high draft picks at any WA player who is touted as moving, nothing wrong with the notion as such , however lets not limit our attention only to former WA kids.

At least he went for an established player. I am amused by preoccupation with drafting Wa players delisted from other clubs. As though coming back to WA will all of a sudden give a player motivation.

Indeed, I will pay that.

Please don't get me started on that one........ almost as bad as the delisted WA players that have injury concerns that we have picked up over the last decade.

Even Venables played the U/18 tournament as a forward, just as Duggan played his as a defender.

Waterman, Cavka and Parto are others but we do seem loathe to draft pure mids

I think the fact that neither Fyfe or Danger were mids in their u18's might play into it as well. Yeo could even add Yeo as they drafted him with intentions to turn into a mid.

He isn't a tall though... 191cms

Well, he may not be a FF but technically he is still a tall.

Mitch McGovern has the potential to go AA IMO and could be a top 5 forward in the next couple years. While I haven't been as interested in the draft as much as last year, from the brief reading I've done, some of the mids at our current first pick sound a bit Galluci-esque, and I'd rather trade for a player with a bit of x-factor then a good honest citizen with leg speed.
