I can see him being good depth next year, probably Mitchell has hinted he will retire and they want to keep some experience

Doubt he'd want to do that. Look what happened at Geelong as soon as they told Enright and Bartel they weren't guaranteed game (virtually telling them they're depth). They left. We don't have the balls to tell him that now. We also don't have the balls to not play him.

Has there ever been a "Club Legend" a our club played a year as depth? I think they've all retired mid year.

There's no room for sentiment in football anymore, and it seems there is none in forums either. Show your respect to a "Norm Smith Medalist"

I might if you could spell properly! But seeing you can't I will show you the same respect you show to two of the club's stalwarts ... fairest and bests, AA and Brownlow Trophy winners between them.

Completely disagree. I know footy is big business and I know what you are trying to say but without it footy would be sterile and boring.

We are all fans largely due to a sentimental attachment to the club. No sentiment means no massive overreactions and melts in game day threads.

No sentiment means guys like Shuey go to the club paying the highest dollars rather than putting his blood sweat and tears into the club that treated him as family during challenging times when he arrived.

You can't have the club operate with no sentimental integrity, yet demand loyalty from players and fans.

Every young boy dreams of one day winning a Brownlow Trophy.

I love how the sparseness of that photo perfectly captures that sentiment. There's the Bonanza League trophy, and nothing else. Not even anything hanging off of those 3M hooks.
Unlike certain curly haired trudgers I realised that I'd reached the peak of my sporting prowess and promptly retired from all competitive sport. I suppose could bring out my under 12's grand final basketball medallion and my clipping from the community newspaper of the time I got 3/4 in cricket to spruce it up though

Sentiment is given by the club when you perform. It's called a winning culture. Allowing a player or players to flounder their latter years in the top side because they've given a lot to the club is garbage. When you're done, you're gone. This club is supposed to be about winning flags, not participation awards and extending careers. We have good kids coming through that we'll either lose to another club or under-develop by continually playing these old guys due to their previous history.

It's a team sport not an individual sport. You're only as strong as your weakest individual. It's not about getting players up on the games played tally it's about winning.

Very difficult to find a bit of bush these days!
They're all bunkered down, taking up creative pursuits
