Butler would be lucky to get another season out. How many of the ten are AFL standard or better than JJ?

Hurn, Wellingham, Yeo, Sheppard, Butler, Nelson are all AFL standard now. Rotham, Watson, Duggan, Cole the long term options. There is no point wasting a first round pick on a guy who is a shite kick of the ball when it's both one of our strongest areas currently on the field and into the future as well.

We need another HBF'er about as much as we need a hydrochloric enema.

As much as the enema sounds interesting I would totally agree with you. Was shocked he won the Norm Smith, his disposal was terrible. Direct turnovers to the opposition . No Thanks !

I'm happy for us to hit the draft this year. Having watched East Perth a couple times I wonder if we are lacking in the quality youth department.

There seems to be a few good rucks projected to be in our range (at this ridiculously early stage). While we need a young ruck I'd probably be more inclined to go the route of a KPF and then hopefully a ruck slides to our second (like Lycett did).

We could always use quality mids but I think replacing Kennedy is now something we need to consider.

Yep i think this year we should be looking at a young ruck and KF and then mids after.

We have: Partington, Duggan, Vernables, Mutimer, Sheed & Kapany waiting in the wings so i think we will be fine for the a year.

Big fat no to JJ

But I can totally see us going for him

The only problem is that list doesn't inspire any confidence at all. Other than Sheed, none of them are projecting overly well other than Venables who we can't assess yet.

But yeah as you said, KPF or ruck first up unless there is a mid we cannot look past.

Waste of cash and/or picks imo. Got more flankers than inside bulls, and that's saying something.

Personally i think most of the bulldogs players are overrated and their value inflated due to last years miracle.

Take Hamling for example.
With you here. Totally overrated. If they back it up and finish top 2 this year I will change my tune but they had a run that dreams are made of. JJ couldn't hit a target in the GF

Our first picks in the last 4 years there ..... all playing WAFL. This has been the problem with us finishing mid table and upwards. We are not getting top 5 picks and therefore access to AFL ready quality players who can come into the side day one and contribute eg Petracca, Heeney etc. We have to wait two or maybe three seasons to see if we have a "player" or not. When we have finished in the bottom 4 or five the draft has been compromised by GCS or GWS having priority picks.

There is some decent non-WA talls in the draft this year. Agree with you to go a ruck (I would like to see how Goddard develops) and key forward.

As it stands we have 10 half back flankers on the list. We don't need another.
And we need another 3rd tall? Johannison is unlike any player on our list.
I'm not saying we should get him,not at that price anyway but we need his speed ,ball carrying and creativity more than we need McGovern jnr

What do you think we'd see in him? He is a speedy, talented accumulator but his foot skills would be detrimental to our back 6. We have a mini-JJ Cat B playing WAFL at the moment on 60k probably. Let's mould him into what we can use.

JJ is a good player but to us and our game plan I would say surplus to needs. He relies on the Dogs pressure ensuring the ball doesnt get turned over so he can stream forwards in an unaccountable way.

I'd be disappointed if we went for him, same as you.

I kind of just take a default position of assuming that the club and recruiters will make bad decisions nowadays. If JJ asks us to make a bid I feel like we will bite, as we did with a few players in the past 5 or 6 years

JJ from the Bulldogs has got to be one of the most overrated players in the comp!
Need too load up on key forwards and rucks this draft.

Drafted and traded in plenty of mids the last few years

Poster on the Doggies board seemed to confirm the $700k an offer has come from Fremantle and not use. His 'inside word' was they offered him 5 years at $700K a year just before Xmas, Dogs are offering him 4 years at $400K.

From memory there was rumours late last year that Johannisen was looking at a move home so it does match the previous story.
