Have heard we are not interested. Also regarding M McGovern hearing that Adelaide have offered around the 300k mark and Freo are willing to more than double it. Hearing that we are keen but won't go that high. Will come down to playing in WA or playing with his Brother.

Based on 2016 numbers, more than double of 300k would place him between the 33rd and 55th highest paid player in the AFL.

With 18 teams in the league, that would mean he averages out to being the 2nd or 3rd highest paid player on a list.

I can see why we would baulk at that. Particularly since we'd also have to trade something for him.

Re Mackenzie: Unless something dramatically changes during the season I think we can be certain that he will be looking elsewhere and if not then he will definitely be on a significantly lower contract as he will be a backup.

Re McGovern: He would play LeCras role and even though Lecca may not be at the end, he would still provide pressure on the spot at least. He would definitely be worth a first rounder and I think he would take less to play with his brother imo.

Good post. I'm half expecting LeCras to go this year though which would help.

$600k for McGovern would be a bit of a rort for a guy who has 35 goals in 26 games so I'd probably advocate offering less or not going after it.
Agree $600k is high and especially worrying since big Brother is likely to be on less and you better believe it - they will talk. Like two brothers lining up at the urinal as to who can go for the longest and highest and who has the biggest!

I am struggling to see Mitch Mitch as a real person of need. Would he be instead of Darling? We already have Waterman as a development player who plays a pretty similar role and not sure what Allen will turn into. I am not denying that he is good and that we would be better with him. But he strengthens a decent area and does not significantly upgrade the team. I expect Adelaide to be wanting a 1st rounder for him and with the crop of KPF's in the draft this year, 2017 is the year to pull the trigger and get one.

Of the free agents available at the end of this year, there are only 5 that I am interested in. Dusty Martin is desirable but he is a non-starter with his frequent trips to NZ for his dad. The others are Rockliffe (do not like him but he is an extractor and may work but at what cost), Fyfe (he gets to stay at home and play for a decent club but he is likely to want too much), Rory Thompson (unlikely to leave GC and not a person of need) and Bruest.

Luke Bruest is of interest for us. He would be an ideal replacement for Lecras/Hill and you know he just loves playing alongside with a Rioli. Would Sam Mitchell be able to entice him across? Is he angry from being shopped around? Will he want success at a club that compete against a Hawthorn that will stay out of the finals game for another 3 years.

Unfortunately Luke Breust is off the table:

Must be looking at an old list of free agents.

Lol at Gaff for Brayshaw. Would be asking for Brayshaw and first rounder.

By that logic Duggan is worth and AA Midfielder

I agree with you about McGovern. I struggle to see how we need him. Unless we were going to be really bold and trade one of our forwards knowing that we were then going to bring in Mitch, or were going to restructure our fwd line to accommodate both, it doesnt seem to stack. But then again, we've done crazier things.

As CM9000 stated there arent any attractive FA's this year. I still think our needs are a KPF, Mids and Ruck/KPF.

Thats what the proposed deal was. Gaff and a third for Brayshaw and a first. It was a crazy hypothetical.

The club does not possess the guile to trade out a Darling and trade in a McGovern and profit on the deals.
Read my mind mate. Would be crafty if you could pull it off and come out winners. Given the trend of crazy hypotheticals, how would a deal look to you?

There's always some assumptions behind hypotheticals, and I'll start with WCE finish 5th and Adelaide finish 1st giving us an average 4 picks difference in each round, or 14 between our latter round pick and their earlier round. I'm also assuming we're trading out JD, who has plateaued, and trading in Mitch Mc, who has potential and will assume JD's role in best 22. Assuming JD, by his public persona would appear to be somewhat like Buddy in that he'd prefer Sydney or Melbourne to Adelaide or Brisbane.

So how do we win? I've got two scenarios: firstly we obain McGovern and 1st or second round pick upgrades, or secondly we obtain McGovern and another best 22 player.

What can we afford to give away? Anyone who is not best 22, next two years, and Venables. There'd be a lot of contention over who those 22 are, and if current ruck trends continue, Scott Lycett might not be that best 22 player in two years time. He's also a South Aussie which might be appealing to the Cows. Admittedly, if we lose Lycett, we lose ruck depth.

So who wants an experienced best 22 2nd / 3rd tall forward type. I'd say nearly every Victorian club except St Kilda and North, and in NSW GWS are flush. Collingwood are shit traders, Hawthorn don't have a first round pick.

Trade 1: Darling to Geelong for Mitch Duncan.
Trade 2: Lycett and 2nd Round to Adelaide for McGovern and 1st Round.

Gains: Embley style winger, pick upgrade
Losses: 2nd ruckman

It's a hypothetical though, and I don't know nearly enough about opposition teams to know their wants and how they value our players.

Agree I wouldn't be paying McGov jnr over 500. Same as Johannason, good player we don't really need. We need midfielders...well good midfielders

Are you saying we CAN afford to trade Venables?

Can't see Adelaide going for that
Although they may see a 3rd tall forward type as somewhat expendable ,they have a few good ones already

The basis I used was Lycett is from SA, and Adelaide seem to lack any ruck experience behind Sauce.
Stats-wise as of 2016 Lycett's a much more effective player than McGovern. I figured they might value that over a 4th tall forward.

The other thing is there have been a few rucks who have moved for first or second round picks in the past 5 years. McEvoy went for a first and a player, Lycett not on that level, so how about a player and a pick swap?

There's another South Australian, a virtual first rounder, on our list who we could package up with our third pick for Gov Jnr. I'll give you a clue .... his name starts with R and ends in edden.

We could, but having elected to move to WCE recently I doubt he'd be OK'ing another trade straight away.

Yeah that was written pretty poorly. I meant anyone who is best 22 next year as well as Venables being not expendable, if we want to improve.
My mate is good friends with Daniels brother. Said he wants to leave Perth at the first opportunity he can get. Is extremely homesick, and feels on the outer. Doesn't feel like the club is doing enough for him.

Maybe with a bit of gentle persuasion in the form of a full upload_2017-5-11_14-20-41.jpeg

Well that's a waste of a pick if the club doesn't run that around. avishka5 style fake news non-withstanding.
