Sorry to say, but we have already made a hash of this year's trading because of our inaction last year.

It would have been far better to offload EMac to another club for nothing, and pay that club his wages this year as it would guarantee us cap space to be in the game for the free agents.

What if Fyfe wants to leave Freo, but not Perth? We won't know as we can't even make an offer due to cap space going to players that are not good enough to break into the team.

Darling is a player that GC don`t have up fwd would compliment Lynch ,Wright nicely ..
Yeah I agree with that, but I still cannot see them parting with pick 8 and an early 2nd pick downgraded 7 spots. Darling's current value would be somewhere closer to a pick in the mid teens IMO.

I'm sorry but this is a bit of a silly post

eMac was contracted so unless he agreed to be traded our hands were tied. Whether or not we had a deal we considered acceptable on the table is not known

If Fyfe stays in Perth it will be with the dockers. And even if we could convince him to shift, the dockers would match and force us into a trade that we'd never find a resolution that both clubs would be happy with

People are crazy talking about trading away Darling.
Why? Honestly at this point we know what we're going to get and it's nothing that amazing. He's going to a do a few great things and then cancel them out with all the stupid stuff he does (give away free kicks, drop easy marks, play for frees instead of contesting the ball). I'm fine with trading him if we can get something decent out of it.

Agree he could be very very good but he just seems to be content to just showboat around staging and tossing his head back trying to win a logie ..

I know it was very unlikely because both players were set on freo, but McCarthy and B.Hill would compliment our team very well. We seem to be having a shocking run of recruiting WA players.

Not that I like the players themselves, but in a pure football sense: Hill is a more committed version of jetta. Was already set on freo last year, hence the laziness. McCarthys forward pressure and up the ground work is very good. If darling did even half the work hed be pretty hard to stop.

Of course, we could still have been asking the question about these guys, but my point is we always settle for second best. We recruit players for the sake or recruiting them, not because they are any good.

Redden and jetta were both coming off pretty average years when we recruited them. Our recruiting team almost seemed stunned that players nominate us and don't have the ability to say no.

Brad Hill was released by Hawks because he wanted out to play with his brother so we had no chance there and McCarthy had obviousy committed to Freo in such a way that he chose to sit out of footy for a year ..

So WCE had very little leverage in this instance and no role for McCathy..

That was my opening point. We had no chance in terms of these two specifically. But, when we don't get these players we try making up for it by signing anyone that nominates us no matter the cost.

Like I said, jetta and redden were average at the time we signed them yet we gave up a first rounder and a backup ruck for two players that aren't exactly young. We didn't HAVE to sign redden, yet brisbane managed to steal a first rounder off us for him

I don't understand how one person can be so prone to head knocks. Why doesn't this happen to other mids?

Happens at all levels, some blokes just seem to have an unhappy knack of it, or some have poor techniques when it comes to getting down to get the hard ball and can leave themselves open to being hit in the wrong spots. Poor fella.

Didn't a similar thing happen to that guy from Brisbane recently? Had to retire very young.

I might be wrong but I think it also becomes a cumulative thing - the more head knocks you've had the more prone you are to getting a concussion

So brayshaw may be getting a concussion from Knicks that most other players are able to brush off

Keys you are correct, there is a cumulative element to it.
The severity of the first couple of bouts of concussion can also have a bearing on how prone a player may become to future concussions.

Not good news for the kid and you have to feel for him as its a sever blow to his AFL dream.
Have to say that if it was my kid I would be seriously advising him to call it quits.

The data coming out of the NFL is very concerning for those players that sustain repeat concussions.
For those of you who don't follow NFL some of the data shows a much greater than average chance of long term neurological disease and an impact on life expectancy.
The suicide rates of former players with a history of concussions is also higher.
Its early days in the process of assessing the cumulative damage to NFL players that have sustained multiple concussions but the initial trending is quite scary.
