mitchell, priddis, emac and lecras should all leave some cash available. But what do we trade out. We need speed. I dont want us to trade out first rounders either.

One of those high-quality forwards is nearing retirement age though.
he is, but from what I've seen he'll still be pretty dominant for a couple years yet.

Agree and I would go hard at Zac Jones. He is out of contract and would give us both run and carry plus toughness. Not often you get a winger with some spirit.

I know his brother is at Melbourne but why not have a go. He is someone who would immediately add value. Sydney have their Frankpitt salary squeeze so we could be comfortable paying overs as we the Priddis, Lecras and eMac cash to invest. We would still need to trade for him but I suspect a second rounder would get it done. We have a pretty good relationship with Sydney. He is out of contract and only 22 this year!!!

Hindsight suggests we've paid overs for Wellingham and Redden in recent years. We desperately need to keep that first round pick and recruit a decent mid.

Not interested in JJ given what we would need to give up to get him across. Ditto Gov jnr given Lamb and Waterman are coming through.

Well we're all expecting news tomorrow that he's just suffered a season-ending injury, so the club is probably ready to be looking at a succession plan.

Agree and was gonna post this earlier in the weekend. Rate Jones a fair bit.

Hurn and Butler for Gov jr lol. :p
Seriously though, wonder if they'd consider accepting Mallen and a 2nd round pick. Similar sized 2nd/3rd tall, pretty promising, injury history might be a concern. If he could return later on and kick some bags in the WAFL, he might look more attractive. Not AFL ready like Mitch obviously, but they could get 2 decent young players out of it. Karps could come into play as well. Still a very promising prospect imo, just needs more game time.
We could throw in Redden as steak knives... :$

Agree that we shouldn't be giving up first rounders but unlike Redden, JJ is currently playing dominant footy whereas Redden had been mediocre for 3 years before we got him. Wellingham was always inconsistent but JJ is pretty reliable and a leader.

Hopefully we don't have to give up a first round pick if we do get JJ.

It will allow us to develop Nelson further up the ground where he belongs

That bad you reckon? Its not a Harley Bennell style "calf" I'm sure.

Pretty confident he'll nominate us, we have a player who would be in his ear, often.
That you would. Makes a trade more difficult imo... pity your south Aussies wouldn't be of much interest apart from Parto (maybe)

Lycett another.

We'll see I suppose. One thing we seem to do always is just be fair at the trade table. We don't look to be the baddies, much to our detriment at times.

Ditto for us. We look to be fair and we are just bad at the whole process

Eagles into getting Brandan Matera also, sounds like we were talking to him on the weekend .

I don't rate him that highly so I would be very curious at what his trade value was.

Like the Zac Jones idea a lot.
Classy Mid :heavycheck:. Blistering pace :heavycheck:. Hard tough nut. :heavycheck: Plays both inside and out. :heavycheck::heavycheck:

As for:
Mitch McG
JJ
Matera

None fill a real need , no doubt all good inclusions but none fill a priority need.

I would rather pay overs to get Jones than any of the three above mentioned.

Jones ticks all the boxes we need.

West Coast 1st picks :

2016 - Venables (13)
2015 - Redden (traded 18 for him)
2014 - Duggan (14)
2013 - Sheed (11 after trading down from 6)
2012 - Wellingham (traded 17 for him)
2011 - Newman (23)
2010 - Gaff (4)
2009 - Sheppard (7)
2008 - Naitanui (2)
2007 - Masten (3)
2006 - Brown (16)
2005 - Hurn (13)

Note the distinct lack of top 10 picks since 2010

Have arguably paid overs for every single one of those, in most jobs the responsible person(s) would be sacked.

ho bout lycett for for gov jr. jacobs closing towards the end. could even have a pick swap.

I think Lycett is worth more than Gov Jnr. If we are open to trading Lycett, I would try Lycett + our 2nd to Port for SPP or something like that - improves our midfield instantly. Shuey, Sheed and SPP form a very good combination and moreover they are nothing alike. Ryder turned 29 in March and Lobbe turned 28 in February, so this might just work.
