I don't want to make anyone sad but, imagine a universe where we took Cripps instead of Sheed. Seems pretty plausible too.
id wait till i jump to thant conclusion. I rekon theres a good chance sheed will be as good if not better. Cripps two years ago was easily the best mid from his draft now players have gone past him or catching up. Sheed has more to his string that could turn him into a more dangerous option.

Dogs fans reckon 2xfirst rounders for jj.

But blatant manager comments to me tells me it's a bluff.

no more being soft, time to be ruthless

up front: need to get rid of darling, lecras, hill. target the likes of hogan, gov jnr and a good crumber (not ballantyne)

midfield: happy to keep mitchell as he's a good user, go after fyfe, harley bennell and some of the giants who aren't getting games

backs: get rid of the dead wood, stop being so damn nice.

rucks: lycett is another sunk cost, get rid of him and go after lobb. DO NOT play petrie, even though mcinnes is lousy, he at least has an upside. cut giles also.

go after some of the suns boys, they're stagnating there, they want out - hall, swallow, martin, matera

Lol bennell yeah nah.

I don't know if getting McGovern is good for us. Does he address a need? Does he help us cover the likely retirement of JK?

He will likely cost our first unless we intend on trading a player and a later pick. All of this erodes our chance of fixing the midfield which is our biggest weakness.

Two WA Hyphens not bad mids

Have arguably paid overs for every single one of those, in most jobs the responsible person(s) would be sacked.
To be fair. 2012 draft: Who would you pick from pick 17 to about pick 40 that is best 22 at their current club and some more than Wellingham. Bear in mind he was 24 when we got him.

2015 draft. Similar. Name someone from pick 18 to our next pick (Partington) that has done more than what Redden has done (**** all I know, but at that point everyone thought we were pushing for a flag so we just started trading out draft picks for other clubs best 22 players)

We were set on Sheed from the start. Shouldve probably been Cripps in hindsight but they're similar players anyway. Would even argue Sheed suits us more with his disposal. Got the pick for Yeo in that trade as well. Allowing us to have an extra crack at a second round player. I'd say weve almost won that one, depending how good Sheed develops.

Trading hasn't necessarily been the problem. I guarantee you if we had have used those picks (Redden, Wellingham), we'd be sitting here complaining about why we used it on a spud rather than trading for a ready made player. The problem has been our recruiters not having a clue how to draft and never looking ahead to see what might happen, just drafting blindly in a sense.

Another problem is we have a **** midfield so we forgot to draft anything but midfielders for the last 5 years (and the ones we did get havent been inspiring). JK is one long term injury away from the end, that'll leave us in the **** seeing as we don't have genuine goal kicking mids

Harley Bennell? Are you serious?

Jack Martin signed a contract extension less than 4 months ago - he does not want out.

See, these are the types of comments that look like they come from a Port troll, because you still haven't listed WCE in "other teams".

Eagles into getting Brandan Matera also, sounds like we were talking to him on the weekend .
It was interesting at the ground yesterday when Karl was interviewing phil matera - Fido seemed very keen to push for getting a matera back at west coast. Sounds like he'd be in Brandon's ear

You know this isn't like trading pokemon cards yeah?

Darling, Lycett and Giles are all contracted with us beyond this year so they either have to agree to a trade or we pay them out

Bennell, lobb, swallow, Martin and hall are under contract at their respective clubs until at least 2018 so good luck getting any of them

And there's no chance of Fyfe coming to west coast. None.

His form this year has been poor also so he can stay at the purples. Yeo has been far superior.

This is Obviously a short sighted post that is designed to enrage our resident Freo lurkers :)

What I liked was that he said he'd keep Mitchell cause he's a good user then in the same sentence said WC should chase Fyfe.

Are there any other decent mids we're targeting Bond?

Really hope we don't waste picks on JJ. If we were in Premiership contention I'd do it but we're a long way off with our midfield.

GIVE US SOME HOPE BONDY!!

Good to have you back BOND 007
My reading with the draft this year is that it is shallow in WA but really good in Vic with good talls at either ends and excellent midfield. I would make sure any trading for picks takes that into account.

Any chance of trading next years 1st for one this year?

Eagles board logic.

Hate on one paced, slow mid-field / team. Rumors have us in the hunt for said prolific speedster. Do not want.

It's a steal if we can get JJ. He'd be a huge get.

One small problem with your logic, Johannisen isn't a midfielder

Club line says they'll be talking to as many who will listen. Reality is they target select players & JJ is certainly one who is of interest. Can't see why you think a kid of 22 is only of value if in premiership contention.

Thank you ATG.

Unlikely - next years list is also strong & it's guessing WC will finish higher next year.

Our form line is trending downwards and as such I'd be reluctant to be trading next years first round pick
