We do need Cripps, our entire midfield needs a reboot.once priddis and Mitchell go we dont have anyone who can fill the void.I dont think sheed is that guy.yes we also need outside players too

Perhaps I should have said what we need right now that our window is open with Nic (hopefully) coming back, JK and Gov . Kelly is that man not Cripps. Long term, yeah, would love him as well.

I'd be absolutely over the proverbial moon if Lecras ****** off to Essendon.

Honestly can't see how he'd fit into their team when they have a plethora of decent small/medium attacking options.

Either way, **** off - He says about his sponsored player :smilingimp:
Le cra to GWS would be more logical. Delideo can't get on the park, Stevie J retires and Le cras provides that mature skillful forward that adds balance.

If we could move on both Le cras and MacKenzie as free agents do we only get one pick or two. Together they may land us a late first round pick, second round at least as long as we don't get a free agent come in.
I doubt we get a pick for either of them

He's one for the 2018 draft.
Does anyone know if he was part of our 2016 Academy intake? He was eligible.

I posted that he was bottom age and this is precisely my point. We should be all over Hill and we have 18 months to do so. We should have him down over the summer for training and be able to make a great decision on him well and truly prior to the draft. Hell, why not go so far as to teach him how to respond to non WA clubs about his concerns of being away from home and his reluctance to commit to a non-WA club. Now there might be some people who scoff at these tactics. Reality - I don't give a toss. If it means we pick up Hill with a slightly later pick because others are scared off - then we have done the best for the club.

In terms of our academy - Hill was part of the AFL Academy so I would suggest no.

I think you only get one pick for the first one.

My first thought was the compensation for players was assessed individually so you'd get a pick for each player you lost. Any compensation would be reduced though if you brought a FA in

Looking at this though compensation points get bundled up so you only get one pick but that pick is improved if you lose more than one player

I went through the previous free agency signings and couldn't find an instance where a club lost two free agents worthy of compensation in the same year.

So it's possible that if we lost both Mackenzie and Lecras at the end of this year we'd get a pick even if their individual deals didn't justify one but combined they do or two third rounders become a second round or two second rounders become a first.

Only just read about Ian Hill for the 1st time yesterday, so I really know nothing about him, but won't he eventually want to join his cousins at Freo if he doesn't end up there initially? Seems like he might be a pretty exciting player though.
He might be related to Josh as well.

Josh Hill is a cousin and so is Lewis Jetta ....but you are right Fremantle would be an easier destination with Stephen and Brad in there prime .

If lecras and eMac did both leave, a second rounder would be a reasonable result. I feel like they could potentially get reasonable deals if it's to entice them over east, and maybe we'll get really lucky and see a Chris mayne style offer made to them. Would be sad to see a couple of club champions playing elsewhere, but would be for the benefit of the club.

Only Gaff and Yoe would get a higher second round - all others on out list would be third or fourth at bestWe are not going to trade our way out of problems

This is excluding the players on our list nobody wants to trade out, right? Yeo on current form is a first rounder easily. Gaff is still under 25 and already an AA so worth a first rounder to the right team. Given that Geelong got pick 63 from Fremantle for Shane Kersten, I think Darling is worth a lot more than a third or fourth round pick. There are others on our list who could net us second round picks too.

I had a bit of time this weekend so I re-did the draft table (from the 2011 draft onward) I'd done up earlier in the year with a few tweaks.
Something that sticks out for me, Brisbane drafted really well early on in this period but they weren't been able to hold on to many of their players. Yeo, Docherty, Crisp, Longer and Aish were all good picks who left the team fairly early in their career and have played significant game time at their new team. The other thing is how good Sydney have been at taking players in the rookie draft, they've been brilliant at identifying talent that no one else seems to rate.

The biggest thing that you can take from this as far as the Eagles go is how poorly we've used the rookie draft, with only 4 guys debuting (after their first selection for our team) from the rookie draft. Those 4 guys are Tunbridge, Petrie, Bennell and Sinclair, so 2 were recycled from another team and 1 was a mature ager, this is absolutely pathetic imo and speaks volumes about the way we use the rookie draft.

We're also still dead last in both how many players we've picked have debuted from the last 6 drafts and in the amount of games the players we've drafted have played. Whether this is poor drafting or poor development (or both), I think we've done a terrible job of bringing new talent into the team. The only other team even close to this is Hawthorn and at least they've got 3 recent premierships to show for it from this period.

Unless Ian Hill is from the Pilbara he's not eligible for our academy

I don`t think your right ,Wce can add talented players in their zones to their academies ..confusing:(

Header-Eligiblity.jpg

The 2016 West Coast Eagles Next Generation Academy will target junior players aged between 12 years – 16 years (Born 2000-2005).

The academy process will be fully inclusive, but targeted at participants from multicultural backgrounds (born in African, Asian or culturally and linguistically diverse countries - i.e. countries in which English is not traditionally the first spoken language) or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Further to this, under AFL academy guidelines, the club has been allocated regions throughout Western Australia from which academy participants can be recruited from:

Multicultural Players

West Coast - Metro West Coast - Regional
East Perth South West (East Perth & Swan Districts zones)
Perth Midlands
Swan Districts Great Southern
Subiaco Goldfields
Pilbara
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Players

West Coast – Regional
Pilbara

Unless Ian Hill is from the Pilbara he's not eligible for our academy
The only benefit we would have is a reduced points to claim him. From what I saw, he is going to be drafted and reasonably early. Now we have 12 months to help him with his story that will detract eastern states clubs from drafting
