While West Coast and Fremantle have divided up most of the state, both clubs have been restricted from recruiting Indigenous players from the majority of their academy zones because they are not regarded as athletes new to football.

"The rules that apply to other clubs in other states should apply to all our Next Generation academies," said Nisbett. "We're going into Next Generation academies but we can't select any Indigenous players unless they come from the Pilbara. The same rules apply to Fremantle who can only access their Indigenous academy players if they come from the Kimberley.

"The south east corridor here is under-represented in the WAFL and the AFL and we are being asked to develop that area and yet we cannot access the players once we've developed them."

From what I can understand we can include indigenous from our area in the academy but we only get preferential access to them if they're from the Pilbara. Lads like Bayok who come from a non-English speaking background we have access to no matter where in our zone they come from

I don`t think your right ,Wce can add talented players in their zones to their academies ..confusing:(

The 2016 West Coast Eagles Next Generation Academy will target junior players aged between 12 years – 16 years (Born 2000-2005).

The academy process will be fully inclusive, but targeted at participants from multicultural backgrounds (born in African, Asian or culturally and linguistically diverse countries - i.e. countries in which English is not traditionally the first spoken language) or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Further to this, under AFL academy guidelines, the club has been allocated regions throughout Western Australia from which academy participants can be recruited from:

Multicultural Players

West Coast - Metro West Coast - Regional
East Perth South West (East Perth & Swan Districts zones)
Perth Midlands
Swan Districts Great Southern
Subiaco Goldfields
Pilbara
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Players

West Coast – Regional
Pilbara
And the track record is that Perth, EP and Subi are well behind the work that Swans, Claremont and both Freos do in their rural areas meaning we have the weaker WAFL club alignment in zones.

The only benefit we would have is a reduced points to claim him. From what I saw, he is going to be drafted and reasonably early. Now we have 12 months to help him with his story that will detract eastern states clubs from drafting
I'd still take that. Looked a class above most of the other boys out there and he still has another year of development ahead of him

There were a number of nippy indigenous boys out there for WA that were fun to watch.

I thought Kyron Hayden showed promise as did Jarrod Cameron and Sydney Stack. Narrier might be handy if he learns how to use his right leg for something more than just balance

Zareth Roe down back reminded me a bit of Franky Watson - could do something very good then **** it up the next moment with a skill or decision error

Hill is in our Next Generation Academy but we won`t have preferential access at this point ..

Loved the way Kryon takes the game on and his don't argue was impressive. Agree with you on Cameron and Stack and the challenge will be to keep them in the game longer. Both are young and will be 2018 draft so will be interested to see how they develop.

Now Narrier - electric at times. Some real burst and yes, his kicking skills were questionable at times. He is an over ager and found myself at times liking what he was doing and then unsure of how and where to play him.

Roe - nothing wrong with the way he gets involved in the contest and his physicality. Your are right though - a brilliant contest, gets possession and then chooses a bad option to kick to out of defence and then misses the target. A miss for me thanks. Regarding Frankie comparison, both turn it over but Frankie does it with so much more panache!

This - Ian Hill. Spot on with seeing him as a real differentiator. He has great speed and for a lad so young he was prepared to back in some silky skills and weaving through traffic. Just in front of where I was sitting he tried to keep the ball in play and he has a touch of wizardry about him.

BOND 007 - can you please assure me that O'Brien and the team will keep a close eye on him and not let him slip to Port while we take another solid Melbourne citizen?

WC know who this boy is & what he is capable of

Found something interesting from EFH that was posted in May:
I know for a fact, Fremantle have put forward an offer to Acres to return home. Growing up Acres was a West Coast fan and was hoping he would get drafted by us and even when got drafted by Saints, was possibly thinking of trying to get back home after a few seasons. Having said that, he has been at the Saints though for a few years now he seems to like it as I think he signed a contract extension a year or two back. But if Fremantle are trying to entice him back, West Coast should at least speak to him as if he wants to come home, I think we would be a decent chance at getting him as growing up all he wanted to do was play footy for West Coast.

EDIT: Also think this is relevant:
With Saints having the bye this week, Acres is in Perth and was conviently catching up with Andrew McDougall today. McDougall is his manager. Looking likely to be returning home at the end of the season i reckon.

Acres would be a good player to pick up. 190cm,pace,kicks goals but what would the asking price be? I'd imagine a pick inside the top 20-25

Can't see Duggan being of interest to St Kilda. Duggan's market value at the moment would be 30-35, whereas Acres would fetch a pick inside the top 20.

Mitch Gov close to inking multi year deal with Crows?

deep down inside im happy. Going forward he wont really fill a need for us and we will end up giving up a high draft pick that we could potentially use to draft a genuine KPF or further strengthen our midfield. If we were in premiership contention, then i would have jumped for him as it would make our forwardline very dangerous.
