Different players. One is an outside crab and Zaha is an inside/outside player. Zaha is a very good player but we would need to give him something nice to lure him over and I don't believe it's worth it as Zaha turns to pop in a tag or when under pressure and I think for his quality and experience that's a bit of negative.

I think he is fine under pressure but he can't deal with a tag. So then do you justify that he is worth a spot, do we have a role for him, how do we see the team developing and how long are you willing ot bank on that role. 2 million over 3 years with a performance bonus and extension to potentially make that 3million over 4. Half forward flank. He's a free agent and costs no picks.

2.5 million over 4 years for Gov jnr. Cost would be our second round pick this year plus Malcolm Karpany or change.

2 million over 3 years for JJ again with a performance clause and automatic extension to make that potentially 3 million over 4 years. 2018 first round pick.

3 years for brandon matera at 400k a year. 3 round pick this year and Tom Lamb. Lamb agrees after very little interest from

Lycett + our 2018 second round pick traded to port adelaide for SPP.

Butler, Lecras retired and Emac traded. Giles paid out and delisted. Gorter, Brophy, Snadden, Tunbridge, Mcinnes delisted.

At this stage outs Lycett, Hill, Butler, Emac, Karpany, Lamb, Lecras, Giles from the main list. Gorter, Snadden, Tunbridge, Mcinnes from the rookie list and Snadden removed from cat b list.

Incoming 2017 first round pick as well as JJ, Zaharakis, Matera, SPP, McGovern.

^ backing crippa to regain form.
- Vardy is second ruck and 7th forward.
* Duggan is seventh defender

34 ready to go AFL players plus some other developing potential and a first round pick (best available tall forward). Later in the draft / as rookies i want Banfield and Goddard. Worst case if the club must delist giles and rookie him.

Between Butler, Lecras, Emac, Lycett, Hill i see 2 mill off the cap for next year plus there will be 2mill extra in it on top of that. JJ, Zaha, Matera, Mcgovern, SPP 2.8mill coming onto the list leaving roughly 1.2mill to cover the increase in salary of shuey, gaff, sheed, nelson. I reckon shuey has gone from 500-550 to 800k leaving plenty in the cap.

I can't see how that list fully fit isn't a top 2 team.

I do not want JJ near our club for 700k. I do not want Zaharakis near our club for 700k.

I don’t mind the Lycett/SPP suggestion, seems slightly surplus to requirements and is a SA boy.

Matera for 400k and Lil’Gov for 550k sounds good however.

You lost me there, I would want something back from Port and wouldn't be giving them our 2nd rounder

With another year of development into Jackson Nelson, how would would people rate the Nelson/Yeo combination as the rebounding HBF compared to the combination of JJ/Yeo? For me, JJ has some good qualities and is a decent player BUT not at the price of our 2018 1st round pick. We have genuine pace with Nelson and Yeo plus we have the likes of Rotham and Watson to develop and both of these guys are fast. Surely as well we want the toughness of Nelson on the ground and not as emergency. Hell, I believe clubs will take the leaf out of Sydney and Melbourne and go for JJ. Who in our team will be there to stand up for him when they come for JJ standing in a WCE jumper on a cold afternoon at the MCG? I also liked work of Duggan in the backline against Geelong and he is no stranger to that role (as a junior he swung between HBF and midfield).

With Venables, we knew he was going to take at least half the season to get over his injury let alone develop but I would expect he is a starting 22 player in 2018. He will play half forward with midfield rotations and bringing on Zaha would be limiting his time. Therefore I would consider Zaharakis as depth and not worthy of big dollars.

People are assuming NicNat comes back perfectly in 2018. From my experience, the big guys normally take 18 months to 2 years to get back to where they were at prior to the ACL injury. Letting Lycett go means we must be really sure about Vardy. I love the fact that Vardy has strung together some good games and has finally looked durable but if he goes, we slip down to Goddard. I am on record as a Goddard advocate but he turned 19 in March and is yet to break into Claremont's league team.

I expect Carlton to go hard for Lever with a Gibbs for Lever deal (not a straight swap and there will be balances but that is irrelevant for this discussion) and hence be the Crows will be guarding Gov jnr harder and be wanting a first round for him. The Crows have played Gov back and forward and hence would need a ball reader of the Gov variety to continue the intercept defender capability. He is valuable not not as valuable to WCE. At 191 cm, Gov jnr is 1 cm taller than Yeo and is only a 3rd tall at Crows so I am struggling why so many posters are so desperate for him. He has some wonderful highlights and good player but his role is not a position of need. As an aside, he was drafted as an over-age recruit, has been at Adelaide for 3 years, will be 23 this year and has played 26 games for 35 goals and looks the goods in the forward line with Jenkins and Walker as the tall forwards. He is not a Kennedy replacement and more a Jack replacement, for which we have Allen/ Lamb and Waterman in on our list who can play that role.

I can't see how that list fully fit isn't a top 2 team.

  • SPP coming back at the end of his first year won't happen and if he asked to leave we would have to pay out the nose.
  • Lamb (zero value) + Pick 50 for Matera is still unders and I expect that to be rejected.
  • McGovern for pick 30 and Karpany (zero value) is also very ambitious. It's not our style to bend a team over like that for an uncontracted player.
  • A smaller issue, but I'd keep Giles if Lycett left.
That being said, I really like the idea of Zaharakis as a FA, and could get on board with Matera and JJ.

100% agree with all this.

A HBF for a first rounder and 800k is not on our priority list. We also have Cole and Wellingham to play down back so JJ just pushes a few players out the squad and he has as much scope as Wellingham as a full time mid.

Mcgovern i am sure we could get or a 2nd rounder but he is no way worth a first rounder.

Would be very hard for WCE to turn down JJ if he nominates us as the club he wants to play for and for probably only our 1st rd pick which we have offered quite readily in bygone years and I can certainy see it happening again this year ..Deals or options like this very rarely come our way and especially when the money chest is full ..

It depends a little bit on where our first round pick ends up. If we somehow made the GF and our pick was 17 or 18 then that'd be fair for Johanissen.

On the other hand if we bombed out and finished ninth then our first rounder would be 10, which would be overs. In that case we might be better off trading our 2018 first rounder and bet on ourselves going deeper next year. Depending of course how strong the relative draft classes are - I've got no idea about that.

Not keen for WCE to use the next years first rounder... Look at the Hawk for instance i bet they didnt think they would finish in the bottom 4.

I have jumped off the JJ bandwagon. Sure have a crack at it if we make it top 4 but if not then im against it. We have too many players on our list that have a weak mentality and drop their heads when it gets tough. IMO we need to weed some of these blokes and over look blokes who have this characteristic.

No way he should have won that norm Smith ! He butchered so much ball of half back just long bombs to contests .
It's like priddis getting a ton of ball and just bombing it . Doesn't achieve much

Longer term i see our potential weakness being a replacement key forward for Kennedy. So far from what i have seen and read the 5-6th 'best' key forward option this year talent wise would likely be the 2nd best option in other years. So from that perspective if we use our first rounder on a key forward this year they will at worst be of a very high talent level. I would rather use this years first rounder and trade next years first rounder because of that.

BS , There`s been plenty of games where he has had very good disposals and drilled passes through the eye of a needle and kicked running 55 metre goals ..

Fact ; 2017 12 games ave DE 75 % ,3.2 IS50
