If Masten doesnt break into the side for the rest of the year, does the club look to trade him or retain him as depth?
He is a free agent pretty sure. Not a great player but know how to find the pill, use it well and can run all day. Wouldn't have an issue finding a home.

Edit: Actually he might not be as he re-signed recently.

BS , There`s been plenty of games where he has had very good disposals and drilled passes through the eye of a needle and kicked running 55 metre goals ..

Fact ; 2017 12 games ave DE 75 % ,3.2 IS50

If it's a long kick to a contest and lost, isn't that a stat against the player losing a one on one?

Or if he wins it, is it all then down to player who kicked it?

Can't have it each way and effective disposal is counted the same way for all players.

OK eagles rule I think we have all got that you have a massive hard on for :heartarrow: JJ :heartribbon:.

I will indulge you on that thought for a minute.

If you will then :

Please explain to me how that will help us to overcome our most obvious weakness , that being, that our midfield is C grade at best and we need to bring it up to a B or A- ASAP , if we are to improve as a team.

So, you propose that we hand over our 2017 1st rounder for him , your clearly happy to do so. :(

Yes we improve our defence with the acquisition of JJ, I will grant you that ( although I don"t rate JJ as highly as you do ).

Curious to know just where, you suppose we get the players to help bolster our failing midfield from in the second and latter rounds.

Flankers don't win you flags Mids and KPP do.

OH ...and just my two bobs worth...... JJ should have never won the Norm Smith that honour should have been bestowed on Picken.

Could imagine a bit of a Jetta situation if JJ came on board.

Players like him aren't naturally gun players, they work well with the system that the team has in place.

Take them out of that gameplan into another structure where he might not be constantly fed the ball and every chance they can't adapt.

I am a pretty strong believer that mid-career and senior players traded to new clubs are just as likely to regress as they are to maintain their previous output. You'd be very lucky if they improve.

Drafting gives the player a chance to grow alongside the team setups.

Stick with the draft, get best available inside mid, back in Cole, Duggan, Rotham, Watson et al

Not saying he doesn't rack up big numbers but uses it about as well as wellingham ( hot and cold ) he is also usually their spare in defence . Is he a good defender ?

Because we don't play a spare

Is he Worth 800k and a 1st rounder ?

Not for me we have barrass Mcgovern Shep Cole nelson rotham all young coming through or established

Our most pressing needs are Midfield and Key forward

The Champion Data definition of an effective disposal for a long kick is: Effective long kick - a kick of more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contest or better for the team.
So as long as the ball goes 40m or more to a contest the player kicking it gets an effective disposal to their name.

midfield is obvious and Kennedy being out shows we have nothing in reserve .
Hbf and key defenders are our best stocked position . Crazy to spend big bucks and a high pick ob JJ

Fully Agree.
Preaching to the converted Brother.

I know everyone wants a gun mid but to get a good young key forward history tells us you need to use a high first rounder .

With a good draft for talls it may be the year we should get a genuine KPF ! Not a small KPF like darling or waterman or a tall flanker like lamb .

194cm + good on the lead and strong hands .
A couple of years development and should be ready by the time JK retires

As long as its to a 50/50 or better. Not if less than 50/50 which some are assuming is also part of it.

I was of the opinion that yes we should target midfielders in the draft but was also interested in what WCE would do if Johanssen nominated us as a club he wanted to play for ..
What would WCE do refuse and say no we're going to draft a kid in the draft because that is a apparent weakness well news flash they haven`t given up on;
Partington is a long shot that I like
Venables will be good
Duggan will be good
Sheed is looking ok
Yeo will continue his journey through the midfield
plus Shuey and Gaff
Now these choices will probably not stand up and be easily dismissed but it's having belief that these players can be effective and forge a career which the club is hopeful on

Question for you Monocle ; Who in this draft will elevate the midfield ASAP to a B or A grade range ??

So Yes if a 1st rd pick is the market value , players of his quality very rarely nominate us and money is available without squeezing up the team .. What I`m really thinking is Dustin .Hopper .Oliver, Hannebery Cripps won`t be nominating us any time soon to fill a wish list ..

Flankers don't win you flags Mids and KPP do.

Off the top of my head came up with ; Shaun Burgoyne ,Corey Enright went a long way to get the team a flag plus Andrew McCloud+Jason Johanssen both own a Normie from winning teams

Curious to know just where, you suppose we get the players to help bolster our failing midfield from in the second and latter rounds.

Now that's where we should draft a KPF or a slider or maybe a Ruckman and try to unearth a mature midfielders with later picks or rookie list ..

2018 we draft a gun midfield with a 1st rd pick

Yeh, it'd be nice if the CD stats were a bit more transparent, I mean if one guy from each team contest the mark that's technically a 50/50 contest but what if one team has 2 extra guys at ground level.

Out of curiosity shoot me some names of draftable KPF in this draft that fill these criteria ..

Sorry to tell you but Jetta was on a downward spiral when he arrived here same can`t be said of JJ his form this year which has been really solid and he`s had to struggle up a rookie list on a different footy pathway than the academy priviliged kids so his improvement is on the rise and because he`s played less than a 100 games his peak hasn`t arrived..
