Beep tests measure a very specific type of aerobic fitness and honestly are a pretty shit indicator for much of anything. You can turn a 10.1 into an 11.1 simply by adjusting your turning technique or pacing, I hate how people point to as any real indicator if someone is AFL capable.
I agree and hasn't the beep test now been canned for Combine testing?

Was Ryan's 1st year at WAFL level after coming from country footy ,no doubt he's probably improved from last year with a preseason under his belt ..

In saying that fitness wise his talent to kick goals and pull down marks hid his small tank ..

If there's one thing that a professional football club can/should be able to do its improve its improve someones fitness.

Much harder to impart the talent for someone to kick goals or pull down marks.

It's interesting that you have said that because the Beep test has been removed from the Nab draft combine this year ..

I get where you are coming from, but 10.1 is deplorable for a wannabe afl player. I'm not even fit but I could run that.
Didnt Ryan come down from Geraldton during the season? Not that surprising he wasn't overly fit.what is amazing is how dominant he is with poor fitness

I've seen plenty fit guys turn up for them and run shit times purely based on lack of sleep, big night on the piss or just not switched on.

Good thing they got rid of it.

Has been replaced by the Yo-yo test. Did one as part of my pre-season this year and it is bloody hard compared to the beep test. Makes you work harder straight away opposed to the slow build of the beep test.

Is it our inside work that is hurting us not Gaff. He has proven many of times how damaging he can be ( Look at last weeks game for instance). Loose Gaff and we go backwards BIG time. We need Mitchell ( and Priddis) to hang up the boots so he can teach the mids how to set up properly. Sheed had an awesome month in the middle as Priddis was either out or playing on the HFF so Sheed got to show his wares but last week he was barely in the middle...
I know I'll get shot down in flames for this, but what does Gaff provide that Masten doesn't? Both can run all day, can't lay a tackle to save their lives, can be inconsistent in their kicking. Would you rather keep Gaff, or have Masten in his place and a first round draft pick to use for drafting or trading? Neither Gaff nor Masten will win us a premiership......

Anyone have any thoughts on the the following

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-11/worth-a-look-wafl-stars-pushing-their-draft-case

I take it Liam Ryan is going to do a Jetta, someone we could have put onto the rookie list for nothing, but now we'll need to shell out a decent pick if he's not picked up by someone else first. Glad we don't have a glaring hole at small forward that we could have used him for....
Asked a mate who works in WA football about this list. Said he would take Kelly and Schloithe. Asked him about Ryan. The answer was a quick and decisive "no". Didn't ask for any details.

Gaff does four things that Masten rarely does :

1. Gaff runs forward when he has the ball in hand.
2. Gaff doesn't loiter around the half back flank in the last four minutes of every quarter to get cheap possession that pad his game day stats.
3. Gaff puts his body on the line when its his turn to go whereas Masten avoids physical contact at all costs.
4. Gaff can get a handball away when tackled.

Masten's compass when confronted with having to run forwards into a position where he may get tackled .

Mastens road map for an attacking move if an opposition player advanced towards him.

In short any direction except straight ahead as he might take some physical contact.

I think Matera and Ah Chee should be off-limits considering how unlikely a top 4 finish is.
Still think McGovern for 2nd rounder is right however.

I hope not as MM doest help address our weak point .... THE MIDFIELD ... is what needs urgent attention.

MM is a good player but WhoTF is going to kick it to him.

A MM pick up, is the sort you do, when you have all the other pieces in place.
The Football Department need to address our achilles heal before we put icing on the cake.

Fix the F****** midfield as naught else will get us another :trophy:.

We really don't need mcgovern we have a well stocked cupboard of third talls .
We need a high quality mid and as many picks we can scrape together to get it

Amen to that. :praying:

Thanks Monocle, appreciate your thoughts. I disagree with you on points 2 and 3, I think Gaff does get plenty of cheap possies through defence and does avoid physical contact, at least at times. And I don't think Masten avoids physical contact at all costs. But possibly moreso than Gaff.

At the end of the day I'd rather have Gaff in the team. However, I think we'd be better off with Masten and another first round pick as opposed to Gaff in the 22 and Masten playing for EP.

Overlooking Liam Ryan for a rookie spot is frankly unfathomable. On par with Lamb over Gov Jnr. Our talent scouts need to have some serious questions raised over their performance. If a pack of bums like us can see the value in these players (and be mostly vindicated, often) then you wonder how these 'professionals' land and keep their jobs.

But nah, Gerrick Weedon and Gorter are rad.
Blakely 2 picks later would have been handy too!

Le cras and Hill are getting on and we need quality replacements. Happy to use a 2nd rounder on Mitch.

We must however retain our first and go for the toughest mid with pace and skills we can.

If we somehow get a 2nd rounder back via trade or FA compo great.
