If we did axe Bennell due to differences in race / culture, then it would be a strange decision to draft Watson and Rioli who would be facing bigger cultural issues given they came from more remote regions initially.

Forgive me, I wasn't arguing that the club is inherently racist. Just questioning whether it was a case of them not having as many runs on board with the coaching staff due to cultural differences. In general, we seem to be at the forefront of AFL indigenous programs.

I'd happily take the bombers' 3rd rounder for Masto. Moving him off the list will give some of the younger guys a better run at it next year, so it's still a win imo.

What are your guys' thoughts on wellingnham? I think from memory he is still uncontracted, and given our plethora of young half backs, do you think his time might be up? Would be pretty rough, but having a 28/29 half back playing in the wafl will usually raise a few questions.

Happy to let Wellingham go, he's had one decent year with us (2015) and of late his lazy disposal seems to hurt us more than the other things he does help.

Happy to let Wellingham go. He'd probably take up the spot of a developing player that with a continued run of 5 games would exceed Sharrods current output.

Is it too early for an eagles board mock draft first run??
I'm ready to roll on this...Always great fun.
Lets do it.

Did pretty well for Sydney in 2013
Pick 15. Christian Salem
Pick 32. Dayle Garlett (what could have been)
Pick 44. Lloyd Perris
Pick 53. Joel Tippet (poo pick)
Pick 71. Riley Knight (bargain)

Killed it for Melbourne in the 2014 (did have some early pick though)
Pick 2. Angus Brayshaw (Petracca went 1)
Pick 3. Jake Lever (very happy with this pick)
Pick 40. Caleb Daniel (extremely happy with this pick)
Pick 42. Billy Stretch
Pick 53. Brett Eddy (meh)
Pick 83. Dean Cadwallader (such a waste of talent)

Went the "potential" route Freo in 2015 due to no high picks.

27. Fremantle - Luke Partington (happy with this one)
38. Fremantle - Nick Coughlan (GWS ACAD)
55. Fremantle - Mabior Chol (BRIS ACAD)
64. Fremantle - Lachlan Tiziani (GWS ACAD)

2016 draft I had Sydney (last second sub in for Suma Magic) - Too early to tell but I'm very happy with those choices
10(9). Sydney - Tim Taranto
19. Sydney - Shai Bolton
45(46). Sydney - Kym Lebois
48(49). Sydney - Mitch McCarthy

IMO this trade period is going to be huge.

Big increase in salary cap will allow clubs, particularly the Eagles and Crows I think who didn't put the rise into players contracts, to throw some serious cash around at players clubs want to target.

imagine dusty to west coast and kelly to Adelaide. The east coast media would shit the bed.

To be honest if we're going to start chasing players i think we're much better off chasing ones we could actually get.

Not sure about you, but I have no ****ing idea who would move west, assume that's what player managers do. It would be negligent to not ask question of Martin and Kelly.

where did you heard it?

re
Not from K.Hagdorn was it?
Couple of things I heard Hagdorn say this morning . Eagles heavily into Mitch McGovern in Adelaide fri night . Also said Mitchell would be delisted .
I would prefer Priddis delisted and Mitchell one more year myself .

kellys old man is a groper.

Liam Ryan has 50 goals from 16 games already. Amazing numbers for a small forward. He isn't even 21 yet and we seriously need to look at him now that both Lecca and hill are close to being done and cripps not providing much. I really wouldn't mind us spending our 3rd or 4th pick on someone like him. Its a massive risk but if it pays off, it could pay off huge for us.

Imagine a forward line of Rioli and ryan roving to JK and JD.

There have been multiple rumours that the only thing that stopped him from being drafted last year was his off field behaviour and commitment. If that is the case unfortunately he may only get his shit together if he is removed from the bad local influences he has around him.

I read somewhere he disappointed a few clubs last year around draft time who were really interested in him.

It seems both us and Freo aren't all that keen- he just doesn't seem to have the commitment to becoming an AFL footballer.

But goodness me, if that changes he could be helluva good footballer at the next level!

I think that will put off a lot of east coast and even interstate clubs. However, see a club like Adelaide or Sydney could take a punt on him. Adelaide seems to have a tight knit group of indigenous lads and with Eddie Betts as a positive mentor, its probably what he needs. Betts is also turning 31 and getting his successor isn't a bad idea.
