It is literally the worst in the AFL though, Sinclair and Tunbridge are the only previously undrafted players we've drafted to the rookie list since 2011 to get games.

Is it the worst?? Not trying to argue but wouldn't mind seeing a few stats of rookie listed players and number of games for all teams.

I certainly am concerned with old O'briens record as it is looking very poor. Be interested to see how much longer he is keeper on

Well I've posted this before (I think I did this version in June), with the rookie draft I included players new to the team (so in our case this includes Bennell and Petrie).
Possible I've made errors with other teams and not being 100% familiar with players history but I think it gives a fair bit of insight.

Sorry must have missed that. I knew players to debut was pretty bad, but wasn't certain on the Rookie listed players.

With that list O'Brien should be well and truly in the hot seat, more so than probably anyone else at the club (including Priddis)

It doesn't look flash does it? But at the same time it's not just a drafting thing, it also speaks to our poor development of young players and our unwillingness to give young guys games.

Agreed. Still a lot more to the story. Player development, compromised drafts, where we finish and see our team etc.

Maybe in 12 months time things could look quite different. DV, Parto, Willie could be best 22 maybe Rotham and Waterman could be pushing. Draft a gun in the first who looks like a rising star. But I think that is a very optimistic outlook.

Yeh hopefully it'll go like this and not just be more of the same

I try to be pretty positive about footy and think there is things to be optimistic about next year.

Duggan, Cole, Nelson, Sheed, Barras. All good young guys who should be best 22

Add in Gov, Yeo, Shep as mid aged

Shuey, JK as senior players

Nic Nat returns (not at his best but still hopeful has short bursts and impacts games)

The thing I've found most difficult to watch this year has been we are just a mediocre side, despite fairly high expectations at the beginning of the year. Next I think we will have much lower expectations so hopefully can enjoy some of the small positives.

I didn't expect us to be great this year, I thought we'd be pretty mediocre but I would have rather we'd been mediocre playing all our young guys instead of being mediocre playing the usual suspects. And I'm not talking about playing the young guys for 2 games and then replacing them with Masten/Wellingham/Hill etc. I wanted them to all have extended 5/6 game runs at a minimum, hopefully we get to see it for the next few weeks.
I'm not optimistic we'll be challenging for a top 4 spot next year unless we manage to get a very good midfielder from somewhere.

I read somewhere he disappointed a few clubs last year around draft time who were really interested in him.

It seems both us and Freo aren't all that keen- he just doesn't seem to have the commitment to becoming an AFL footballer.

But goodness me, if that changes he could be helluva good footballer at the next level!
I posted this on the Freo board FYI.

Freo have absolutely no interest in Liam Ryan whatsoever.

His commitment or lack of it and his general fitness remain big concerns. And please don't believe the crap that he was injured when State Training was on, he disappointed the few clubs that were interested in him by not attending. Who knows maybe a club got in his ear and told him they would pick him regardless, but I very much doubt it. Can only see him being on a list if West Coast picked him up, but I have been told that they aren't interested either.

Would be shocked if an interstate club picked him up.

ADDENDUM
I have never met Ryan but I have had the pleasure of meeting Willie Rioli, and he is a quality individual, a nicer guy you could not find. Give him time, because he is class on and and off the field.

P.S His family hate him playing for East Perth:)

Liam Ryan has 50 goals from 16 games already. Amazing numbers for a small forward. He isn't even 21 yet and we seriously need to look at him now that both Lecca and hill are close to being done and cripps not providing much. I really wouldn't mind us spending our 3rd or 4th pick on someone like him. Its a massive risk but if it pays off, it could pay off huge for us.

Imagine a forward line of Rioli and ryan roving to JK and JD.

Bit of a risk but on talent a good rookie list option He looks to have improved his fitness this year and another few more preseasons should have him on the right track.

Duggan, Cole, Nelson, Sheed, Barras. All good young guys who should be best 22 - also lost us the game with mental Yoe and JK kicking when it counted. But we get experience into them

Not fit, not hard and slow - no where to go.

Gaff, Prides and LeCras are anchors

If there was one player I wish we could steal from another side it would be Petracca.

Please find a midfielder with our first this year with grunt and presence.
I hope Venables come through as a gun but hope SPP in 3-4 years time wants to come home (preferably after we are done with our rebuild).

We should be targeting acres .
He is not getting a go in the middle at saints with all their inside mids and acres versatility is getting him played on the HFF where he struggles then gets dropped .
He then kills it in the vfl playing on ball

here is his 2016

I am advocating trading gaff for acres and a high pick . Throw in lamb as steak knives

I suggested Gaff and Lamb for Acres and the Saints first round pick in another thread earlier and got laughed at, I'd still do it though.

I absolutely love Petracca, definitely my favourite player from another team.

The way he goes about things and his love for the game would be perfect for us right now.

Then totally ignore him and pick a player with injury concerns and "potential"
Yeah need a decent midfielder who is fit day 1 and has some speed.I think the eagles will delist a few so might be good to have a punt with a later pick on Tim Kelly or a mature midfielder from one of the state leagues..Midfield is putrid but wouldn't be surprised if they go for best available player for the first pick.
