Cerra could be the number 1 pick

That possible but a long shot at this stage.

Ok to play the game then Dow and Higgins.

Not sure if Cera is the big-bodied mid we're looking for. Could be a handy outside runner though

What do people think about moving Lycett on for what we can get, pay out Giles and getting Goldsteign from North somehow.

NickNat will need time and support and Goldie is 30 next year same as Kennedy. Goldie is on decent $$ but has lost form and Norths are in rebuild mode and are chasing big free agents.

What this year shows us is we need a 200cm ruck who can ruck.

Hard to say what it would cost but maybe not as much as people think.
We will have Natanui lycett and vardy next year why would we give up a decent pick for an over the hill ruck with minimal time left snd needing a midfield overhaul .
Lycett would be lucky to get a mid 2nd rounder an Giles is worthless .

No and let me explain.
I would always go two for the price of one, just law of averages stuff.
Example I would much prefer Cerra and Higgins as a package than Rayner.

L D-U is the better mid at this point in time. Rayner has no tank and is better suited as a burst forward.
Fair enough.
Yeah I was watching an old episode of future stars and they noted Rayner needing to improve his tank. It's surprised me cause his physique for an 18year old is superb and I thought he would have a decent tank to go with his power.

Last year Higgins did catch my eye a bit. I want him but I'm torn at the same time as I want a big inside mid that uses his power and strength to win and/or burst out of stoppages.

Say we get a top 10 for gaff.

What would your ideal player for each pick be?

Would you take Brendan starch(how ever you spell it?)

Ran the most kms of any eagle again yesterday. Without him we would be stagnant.

I've been a Gaff fan, but he hurts us defensively as much as Priddis. Some of his efforts are shocking. I can still see him as a valuable contributor, however he's got value if we did decide to move him on. Maybe we need to be aggressive at the trade table.

It's a football match not a marathon, he can run as many kms as he wants but if he doesn't do anything useful with the ball (which he rarely has this year) and he can't keep up with his defender when he needs to then he's not much good to us at the moment.

Gaff gets hard tag yesterday and our link play turns to shit and we get beaten by a crap pies team. Would not like to spend a whole season without him without a decent outside mid replacement.
our link up player, leading the team in bounces for the year with 9 before yesterday. 9..... we've played 17 games and our leading link player has an average of 0.529 it's not just the contested ball, its the link up players too.

I quite like the Gaff and Lamb for Acres and Saints first idea, and it's not completely unrealistic either (though I don't think we'd actually trade Gaff).

Would give us roughly picks 9&10. If we really wanted to go hard, try and lure Kelly over and offer picks 9&10 for Kelly and Giants first (16ish)

No way we'd be getting gws first back, I would've thought 9 and 10 for kelly would be around the mark, with maybe their 2nd or 3rd coming back.

They don't have a first this year.

probably the worst thing we could do. huge risk

For the people that say Gaff runs all day, why not bring back Masten then. He was exactly the same.
Cliff young could run all day and night but ---give it a break. Plodding is not contesting and Gaff now refuses to apply pressure. How can he get away with running along side an opposition ball carrier and not even attempt to close on him?

9!!!............. Jamie Cripps could have had 19 by now if he had taken a few more bounces instead of trying dribble kick the ball from 50 metres out on about 4 occasions.

I remember posting about our lack of bounces about 6 years ago. We seem to be the side who is least interested/capable of run and carry.

I would look at trading Gaff or a player that may be worth a 1st rd pick next year ..
This years draft is very even with not a lot separating the players in the first rd and early 2 nd rds IMO..

I would try to have 2 1st rd picks next year my early likes are KPF Lucosious then mids Rankine . Sam Walsh ,Ian Hill ,Conor Rozee ..

which pick mark is Jaidyn Stephenson predicted to go?
Kids got some wheels and seems to love a goal, wouldn't mind picking him up if we can get a few first round picks this year.
He is fast but more outside than inside mid. I think we need to get a mid that can get his hands on the ball at stoppages and clearances with our first. Nice to have speed on the outside but that is not our weakest area.

Knightmare write up:

Playing a pivotal role in Western Australia winning their third of four Under-18 Championships game, the nephew of Collingwood's Craig Starcevich, Brandon Starcevich, 187cm, 88kg, helped the Western Australian midfield get on top. Starcevich gathered 22 disposals, 14 contested possessions, eight tackles, five clearances and one score assist.

What first jumps out at you with Starcevich is his power in the contest. He wins the ball at the goal face but also delivers a powerful "don't argue" and will barge through tackles with force and if unable to break the tackle, handball to a target without going to ground.

His courage was also notable, keeping his eyes on the ball, running forward with the flight, taking the mark and having the strength to hold onto the mark as he got hit hard.

The other impressive element against Victoria Country was his ball use. Nine of Starcevich's twelve kicks were effective, with a combination of long kicks and short kicks where he lowering his eyes and hit the target.

Starcevich may feature this year mid-draft as a powerful ball winning midfielder who can rest up forward.
I personally did not see this as an obvious attribute in his Vic Metro or SA games. I do not believe Knightmare came to Perth so a wonderful write up based on what I suspect is a single game. So one game does not make a reason to pick him. I saw him more as a smaller forward who has had a mature body for a while and did a couple of rotations to relieve in teh midfield.

In terms of what I saw on TV, Starcevich was better in the Vic Country game and was that because of our game style or did he make the game style? He is probably worthy of a late pick but for me I would not pull the trigger prior too early. One upside is that Sumich did say he was a decent prospect and he was pretty silent on most players.

I have had a minimal interest in this years draft. Only started caring last night.

So im just asking questions from the experts like ya self.

Would you be interested in trading 2 top ten picks for for say a top 3 pick and change? So we get a chance to go after a big bodied mid like Rayner or Luke david-uniacke?
Don't be fooled with the weaker WA team to assume the draft is poor. I believe there will be quality through to at least round 3. The point with teh draft this year is that there are no stand out top 1 or 2. The first round prospects are very good but not the Petracca/Hogan/Boyd/Coniglio top couple of picks differentiated from the rest. What you get at 4 will be close to what is available at 8.

Kelly doesn't want to come to WA. If he leaves GWS, and he's no cert to do that, he'll go to Melbs and their are plenty of teams there willing to pay for him.
Interesting input on the main boards that if North finish bottom, they just walk Kelly through the pre-season draft.
