Monocle or someone might correct me here but that whole "wins clearances" might not translate to AFL level. He's like 178cm tall, just like junior, inside midfielder warrior, Chris Masten.

Why must you do this to me?

I would be very pleased with Higgins @ # 12.
Fills two needs with one pick .
Quality inside outsde midfielder and also a crumbling clever small forward.
Would also be happy with Dow.

But to reiterate Higgins would be a combination of best available and also addressing a glaring need,
I would be rapt in he landed at West Coast come draft night .

Rest assured Biggie he plays nothing like Masten .
Higgins can lay a tackle and more to the point break a tackle. Very much a head over the ball player and is already a stocky little bugger that burrows in and out of congested scrimmages.
Masters best work ( well his only real work ) is on the outside, Higgins best work is done inside but he also is a very competent outside player as well . He doesn't have a long kick bit he hits targets and makes good decisions by foot .

I would like to save our midget pick for later in the draft for Dylan Moore, Charlie Spargo or Mitch Crowden

Would be rapt is we could pick Dylan Moore up with our third .
He is very slight but super clever and would be a wonderfull small crumbling forward . In the old speak he is your classic rover.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rest assured, Higgins or not, whoever we take with our first pick will be highly rated.

or sam mitchell?

Or Zorko or Neale or Jack Steven. If he's good enough he'll make it.

I'd love to know what proportion of guys that aren't that tall flame out and what proportion make it. I assume the clubs would know... Maybe I'll work it out one day and write a long post about it.

FiveStrings don't torture yourself think a player like Jake Grisham at St Kilda, he and Higgins are cast from the same mould.
They are very similar players .

Now does that body look anything like Masten.
Masten has been in the system 10 years and doesn't have cannons half the size of Higgins.

I believe Higgins game will translate to the AFL level. So stop pissing off FiveStrings .

If you are worried about needing height - what about Caleb Daniels at 167 cm. What about Zac Fisher. He would be a good pick at our first assuming it has a 1 in front of it and not single digits.

Zorko is 175cms and is a beast in the middle. IF they have the desire to win the hard ball they wont have a problem playing against big bodies.
zorko has explosiveness and is super fast. Other than Mitchell i can't think of too may small mids without pace.

No doubt.

I'm probably causing panic needlessly and I don't really know much about draftees so what I post should be nothing more than food for thought.

Plenty of short campaigners make it :thumbsu:

Not a chance he will last until our second. He has already played 2 WAFL seniors games for Peel and is already up to it. I expect Naughton to go in the first round.

I read on the drafts and trading board that coming back from champs and lifting your output is a good indicator of becoming a good AFL player.

A-Naught has certainly done well after champs.

POCKET ROCKET DYNAMO

THE little fellas are back in fashion at draft night — and a pocket rocket from Melbourne’s east looms as a bargain buy.

Dylan Moore’s stunning draft year has seen him rise up many draft boards as the season has progressed, impressing in school footy, the TAC Cup and on the national stage for Vic Metro.

The 17-year-old was in superb touch for Caulfield Grammar on the weekend, racking up his fourth best-on-ground for the APS season thanks to his tremendous performance against Melbourne Grammar.

Moore booted a whopping six goals to go with 36 disposals (at 92 per cent efficiency) to lead Caulfield to a big 78-point win over MGS.

It was Moore’s school form originally that caught the eye of the Eastern Ranges midway through 2016, as he had spent most of his time and energy focusing on athletics over previous years.

But ever since joining the Ranges, Moore’s draft prospects have grown with each game, culminating in All-Australian selection after a sensational Under 18 national championships campaign for Vic Metro.

“He’s just a kid who’s not big in stature but just doesn’t miss a beat and does everything right,” Ranges talent manager Len Villani told foxfooty.com.au.

“He’s hard, he’s clean and he’s as good an athlete, in terms of his GPS stuff, as anyone getting around the comp at the moment. That workrate coupled with a pretty good footy brain and an appetite for the contest, it’s helped him really make a bit of a mark on the competition.”

Moore has only managed four games for the Ranges in 2017 but been named among his side’s best in every game, averaging 26 disposals and seven tackles per outing.

But it’s been Moore’s goalkicking at TAC Cup level that might appeal most to AFL clubs.

“You look at guys like Caleb Daniel ... there’s opportunities now, whereas eight to 10 years ago they were probably overlooked, those sorts of boys,” Villani said.

“If he keeps kicking goals and doing all the right things, he’d have to be in the mix, part of the conversation.”

Moore’s Caulfield Grammar, Ranges and Rowville Hawks teammate Trent Mynott has also flourished this season. Like Moore, he had a big game against Melbourne Grammar, booting three goals from 22 touches.

A powerful 186cm midfielder, Mynott has “a bit of presence about him”, according to Villani.

“I feel like since Christmas, it’s all come together for Trent. The penny’s dropped and he’s got his body right,” Villani said.

“I liken him a little bit — and if he gets half as good as this it’ll be a bloody good effort — to Shaun Burgoyne, where he might have 15 or 20 touches but they’re absolutely telling and they have a big say on the outcome of the game.”

Zac Merritt is another gun small mid at 180cm. If Higgins is a capable mid and a crumbling forward to boot, id be more than happy to have him. Is he quite fast Monocle
