Hopefully most of this article rings true, especially the Priddis opting to retire part.

“He’s not far off and he’ll get an opportunity. He’s playing well but to suggest he’s going to come in and dominate the competition — I think we’ve got to take a deep breath,” he said.

This part annoys me though. No ones is suggesting he's going to dominate, we just want to see him play. The club themselves are the ones who have built the pressure on the kid by not yet giving him a game.

Who in there right mind is expecting Partington to dominate? Total cop out from Simpson.

I mean, what midfielder of ours actually dominates bar Shuey when he's on? We don't have a dominant midfielder, so to act like the fans are expecting a 2nd year player to come in and save everything is just stupid.

Trash, absolute.

Exactly, no one expects domination but I think he'll give a little more than the tripe that half the senior players have.
Simpson recons he's not going to give up on the season, by playing the same old players who can't get it done, he's doing exactly that.
Seems the definition of stupid to me.

I'm not a Simpson basher, infact I think these are the first critical words I've ever written about him...But damn it's pissing me off.

Adrian Barrich is a dope. Mark Duffield on the other hand is a credible source.

From that list

MARK DUFFIELD PUTS THE EAGLES LIST UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

GONE

Sam Mitchell, age 34: Almost certain to retire and join the club’s coaching panel.

Drew Petrie, 34: Has been valuable because of injuries to Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett but this will be his last season. Has worked on West Coast’s AFLW bid but could return to Melbourne.

Jonathan Giles, 29: Journeyman ruckman turns 30 in January and has a significant knee issue.

Paddy Brophy, 23: Called time on his AFL adventure earlier this year to head home to Ireland.

IN SERIOUS DOUBT

Matt Priddis, 32: Has a contract for 2018 but playing on may also mean spending significant time in the WAFL. May opt to retire.

Mark LeCras, 30: Turns 31 at the end of next month and has battled hip and back problems for much of this year.

Simon Tunbridge, 24: Back playing reserves for East Perth after LARS surgery but career has been marred by ankle, knee and shoulder issues. His chance may have passed him by.

Sam Butler, 31: Sole survivor of the 2006 premiership team. Has had a couple of soft tissue injuries again this year. Time may be up.

PLAYING FOR THEIR CAREERS

Sharrod Wellingham, 29: Doesn’t have a contract and has been in the WAFL in recent weeks. Has talent but fast running out of time to show it.

Eric Mackenzie, 29: Has struggled since his 2015 knee reconstruction and finds himself on the fringes now. Touch and go.

Josh Hill, 28: If LeCras goes he may be kept but has been in and out of the team, with limited impact when in.

Fraser McInnes, 24: Club’s call on him is likely to depend on how it views its ruck stocks. Has battled for AFL games but may be kept on for depth.

Happy for all of GONE and IN SERIOUS DOUBT to be cut.

In PLAYING FOR THEIR CAREERS
- Sharrod - out of contract, happy not to renew given our surplus of half backs. If do renew, will be on very little $'s and be WAFL player for emergency use only.

- EMAC - would look to trade, happy to keep otherwise, but Simpson would have to commit to only playing two Key Defenders at once!!!!

- Hill - If LeCras goes, and we don't bring in a proven small forward (Matera), happy to have as depth

- McInnes - if Giles and Petrie are gone, unless we pick up a viable option in draft/rookie as key position happy to have as depth on one year

Also cut Tunbridge.

I have no problem with retaining Wellingham on limited coin provided most of the others listed are gone. If his form is good, he is a valuable player, if not, he is solid WAFL depth. Same with Hill I guess and as much as I think he is unfairly maligned, he isn't really offering as much as we want/need, so may be time to replace. Personally, I would rather let Emac go and keep Schoey, who I think is more versatile but no problem either way. But I really don't see the point of McInnes. He barely makes it as a forward or ruck at WAFL level. I think he tries hard but really, we must be able to bring someone in with more potential to impact up forward or in the ruck even if its a mature ager from the lower leagues. He has been on the list forever and we have no real confidence to play him.

In danger:

Main list:
Mitchell
LeCras
Masten
Lamb
Priddis
Sharrod
Mackenzie
Giles
Butler

Schofield
Hill
I'll assume all the 'yet to debut' kids stay

Rookie list:
Petrie
Tunbridge
McInnes
The others I have NFI

Bolded are goneski. Mitchell I assume will retire, Priddis will play on. That's the wrong way around but just what I think will happen. I would be moving on Sharrod, LeCras and Masten. None really add anything to side we can't get elsewhere. I'd keep Schofield for versatility, Mackenzie as key defensive back up and Hill as a back up forward. Never thought I'd see the day I'd want to keep Hill over LeCras but LeCras has basically become Ben McKinley. We really don't need two ruck/forwards on the rookie list plus 4 rucks on the main list. That's silly. Anyway about 6-7 changes to the main list is plenty, we don't need to go OTT and David King everybody.

B: Hurn Barrass Nelson
HB: Sheppard McGovern Duggan
C: Gaff Yeo Jetta
HF: Partington Darling Cripps
F: Karpany Kennedy Lycett
Foll: Naitanui, Shuey, Sheed

IC: Hutchings Redden Priddis Cole

EMG: Vardy Schofield Mackenzie

Time to get serious and play Yeo as a mid. Let Duggan earn his stripes at HB as part of the mid rotation. Get Parto, Karpany and Cole into the 22. That starting centre line and followers should be our plan A or close to it. Shuey should take over the C, Sheppard the VC.

Devon Smith and Matthew Kennedy still uncontracted at GWS.

Time to start dreaming yet?

Depending on how much players are rated by their respective teams.

Gaff and our second (or future first) for Acres and saints first pick.

2 first rounders for Kelly (maybe throw in Lamb etc)

Lycett straight swap for SPP.

Maybe a free agent or two if we have cash left over. Zaharakis the only decent one I can think of off the top of my head.

Draft a KPF and rookie Ruckman with our later picks.

Obviously all hypothetical seeing as those players would be unlikely to come anyway but something along those lines would make a lot of difference. Plus we seemingly have a lot of money to splash.

B: Hurn Barrass Nelson
HB: Shep Mackenzie Duggan
C: Kelly Redden Yeo
HF: Darling Gov(ruck) SPP
F: Cripps Kennedy Karpany
Fol: Naitanui Shuey Acres
I/C: Hutchings Cole Jetta Sheed

That team would be contending next year and the midfield would be set up for at least the next 5 years.

Jetta is everywhere! Hopefully he can hold one position down first. Good team though, if only...

Out

Retired: Mitchell, Butler, LeCras, Giles, Petrie (rookie)
Trade/FA: MacKenzie, Lamb (if anyone's interested)
Delist: Hill, Tunbridge (rookie), Snadden (rookie)

That'd give us up to 8 senior list spots to fill if Lamb finds a new home - we're a player short on the senior list this year. I think that's plenty. Upgrade Watson, bring in one or two players through trade/FA, take five picks to the draft.

Give Wellingham a one-year deal, keep him around as depth. If Priddis wants to play on make it clear he'll be doing a Scott Thompson. Keep McInnes on the rookie list, with Petrie and Giles going we'd be very light on for forward/ruck depth.

And Mcinnes survives another year .would rather throw liam mcbean a lifeline than keep Mcinnes on the list
